Chapter 1, Mission 2: Return to this location?

Is it possible to return to the location we rescue John Marston?

Chapter 1

Mission #2: Enter, Pursued by a Memory.

I’ve replayed the mission multiple times to retrace my steps. The original path appears to be blocked off now. That is a shame because that mountain was interesting to navigate. I wish I could go back there. I hope they open up this mountain for Red Dead Online. This area isn’t blocked off by the map borders, but there are just no paths up the mountain. Has anyone been able to get back there? If so, I’d like to know how.

If you ain’t sure which area I’m referring too, press start, then go to:

- PROGRESS

- STORY

- CHAPTER 1

- Enter, Pursued by a Memory

Then replay the mission. The missions starts off with you heading out to rescue John. That path is only open for this mission. It’s such a HUGE chunk of the the Grizzlies to be non-accessible. SUCKS.

This is also above the clouds, which makes it even better and beautiful, but no apparently it's not possible to go there..and it seem it is above the glacier, it's actually strange because like you said it's actually not beyond the map limit. I've tried a few times but I kept falling, I need to do this mission again and see exactly the place with my own eyes..

What is it blocked by? I haven't tried to go back.

During the mission there is a blizzard, and apparently the huge snow drift that was created during the blizzard created a slope to climb. Once that blizzard has passed and rest of the game world opens up, the slope is gone and a steep hill is presented. That hill is impossible to climb (so far).

Yes I’ve fallen numerous times as well. I’ve lost 2 horses up there. (paid over $1000 for each horse lol)

Good luck. Let me know if you make it. Take some screenshots and videos if you can.

I tried and I managed to go further than usual, I saw a hole in a rock models/texture (and got pushed back again) which make me think it is definitely not supposed to be accessible even tho the area is not off-limit.

There is also another small chunk of map in Grizzlies west in the mountain that is not off-limit and should be totally accessible but it isn't, it's just near a path and it's physically possible for a horse to go there but we can't.

There is also Tempest Rim that is not accessible..go figure.

They're going to drip-feed DLC these locations + Mexico

Jk

Yeah it's not accessible.

So Rockstar showcases a massive map begging to be explored?

“The biggest Rockstar map ever” - If I remember the headlines correctly. What they failed to mention was that these map borders were inaccurate, and the in game world is actually much smaller then the map suggests. The map suddenly feels cheapened.

Rockstar never actually said "This is our biggest map".

Playstation Access and other said it was, but honestly in my opinion if it don't come directly from Rockstar Game themselves I don't care who says what.

I mean I was a bit disappointed but in any case it's OK, I just wish they would have done accurate map border to avoid the disappointement of not being able to go there even tho it's not shown as off-limit.

I think all the border are accurate except this, a few chunk in Grizzlies west and Tempest Rim.

It is possible to go there if you go out of bound where you would for going to Mexico/Guarma. Instead of heading south you go north and just follow along the map. As of right now I'm standing there. It's a bit complicated to get there due to the mountain terrain but I got it first try.

This way you can go around the whole map and go to places you're never meant to. It's pretty interesting because out of the map there are still a lot of spawns for animals, they just don't move, only circle around on the spot looking at you. There are also some details like a dried out river west of the location you save John, just out of the map even though you were never meant to see any of that.

The terrain expands for quite some distance.

PS. Trying to find out what blocks the path from this side. Hopefully I can find it.

Okay I followed the path back from where we originally came from in the mission and the map has changed. Technically this whole area is out of bounds now but the ingame map is lying as you can go from there anywhere you want out of the map.
