Vote for RDR2 in The Game Awards

How can you have a fantastic game without good gameplay?

Okay, I looked it up and Grand Theft Auto IV won GOTY in 2008 from multiple sources, and your whole argument in that other thread was RDR 2 doesn't have good gameplay (among other things) - therefore it is the GTA IV of it's time. What exactly was your whole spiel about? It kinda falls apart as soon as you really think about it.

The exceptional story and setting more than makes up for the ok gameplay IMO, but these things won't beat a game with great gameplay and a decent story and setting.

But we are playing a game and not watching a movie. It's like a restaurant that is decorated nicely but has terrible food.

It's time for a break IMO.

So this game is rated even worse than GTA IV then?

GTA IV wasn't up against God of War and Spider-Man. It's closest competitors were Fallout 3 ( at the time a lot of people were super pissed off at it for being an FPS) and Metal Gear Solid 4 ( ironically, some people called that one more of a movie than a game). But, yes GTA IV deserved the 2008 GOTY award just like GOW deserves it now, but it doesn't make RDR 2 less than just because of that imo.

RDR2 did have better competition but the fact of the matter is that what I say about the game on here and the backlash is true. That other thread was closed because the backlash is very similar to how it was against IV.

Nah Fallout 3 and MGS4 were very well received, they were serious competition back then for GTA IV just like GoW and Spiderman are now. I think RDR2 deserved GOTY far more this year, GoW is way overrated

Maybe next time around R can actually concentrate on good gameplay. All the bells and whistles don't matter if the game is a chore to play.

Would you have defended Fortnite if it won instead?

I have never played Fortnite but if it has better gameplay then sure. Video games should be fun to play.

Your statements are entirely unqualifiable...this forum and the opinions of its users is a more realistic benchmark than anything else you have sourced...I have to wonder what your life looks like if you’re spending so much time on here looking for attention constantly.

Since Red Dead came out I’ve played nothing else personally and I’m delighted so many people that ruined GTA Online are not enjoying the game...this is a game for adults not children.

I'm not saying they weren't, obviously, they wouldn't have been nominated. I just think they had much stronger criticisms, especially Fallout 3, aside from the backlash from old school Fallout fans, FO3 was kinda broken - I loved it and all, but I did run into several game-breaking bugs at the time. GOW and Spider-Man don't really have those issues, the're not perfect and I know people have some gripes about them, but I still feel like those two games are much stronger competitors to RDR2 than FO3 and MGS 4 were to GTA IV.

Fun as in lots of explosions and constant pandering to kids with zero attention span?

I mean fun and responsive controls and not just riding a horse from place to place doing scripted missions.

The backlash was pretty minor, the old school fans are a minority. And yeah it was very buggy but which Bethesda game isn't? Skyrim won in 2011 and it was filled with bugs and glitches as well.

I don't think they are stronger competitors, especially not Spiderman. That was a pretty fun but generic game

Did you expect not to be riding a horse a lot in a game set in 1899?

What alternative would you suggest?

Have a fast travel option anywhere in the game when you want and just make the gameplay more fun instead of focusing on realism. Make it less of a slog.

What exactly do you mean by make it more fun? It’s a game about being an outlaw and shooting peoples heads off, what more do you want?

It's funny how this guy came out from the other thread to talk about the same thing.

It’s only a slog in your opinion and a few others you’re choosing to unwaveringly focus on.

I love it as it is and am happy with the level of realism...perhaps this game isn’t for people like you that have a low attention span and demand constant “fun”

When you travel from one place to another there’s random events/animals to hunt things to look for for your companions etc.

I barely use fast travel from camp btw as I find it an immersion breaker in a game that is unparalleled immersion wise.

People like you are why games are made that I dislike...pandering to your every whim and demand...your whole attitude of Rockstar needs to

do this and this so you can enjoy the game is so bratty...as well as your idea that the forum needs to hear your unqualifiable “facts” when this forum overwhelmingly loves the game the way it is.

The people that don’t like it tend not to post here too...maybe take a feather out of their cap?

True, but Skyrim is a much, much better game than Fallout 3, I think. I'm still playing Skyrim to this day - I stopped playing FO3 years ago after running into game breaking bug #5 or so and I didn't feel like reloading all the way back to a spot where I could avoid it. Now that I think of it, FO3 was probably way buggier than Skyrim, but YMMV.

Well, I guess I do. I think 2018 was a great year for video games because of these three games. Agree to disagree then.

I have put in over 120+ hours and I have only used the fast travel about 4-5 times... Just have some fun while getting from point A to B, kill some innocent people, torch the stagecoaches, shoot the birds etc the list goes on. That’s what RDR2 is all about.

But many complain about the lack of it so why not add it in and people can choose whether or not they want to use it.

I wish they would open that thread back up again. There are many who feel the same way and isn't it better to keep it confined to one thread?

Why would Red Dead sweep 4 key elements in today's games (i.e. Narrative, Score, Audio Design and Performance) and then lose it to another game in the A/A and GOTY categories? What other elements are left? Graphics and Gameplay? I cannot see how God Of War could even win in these two elements given Red Dead's much, much larger scale and complexity, and yet it's an open-world game that has set a new and high standard in some of the graphics departments like lighting even by linear-game's standards. I didn't play GoW, but I can see it winning in Gameplay for reasons like controls, progression and satisfaction, but this is not how I'd compare a linear experience with an open-world one, let alone controls for a fantasy world with that of a game which aims to be realistic. Fantasy resonates better than a gritty Western? Maybe.

GOW is just more fun to play. People play games for fun and not to feel like a second job. Red Dead does excel in graphics but a pretty chore is still a chore.

I somewhat knew that RDR2 won't go home with the GOTY award at TGA. God of War deserved it in my opinion, even if I absolutely don't like the franchise. God of War is the 2nd highest rated game of this year and it's a piece of quality through and through ... RDR2 just failed to surprise in my opinion. Everyone expected it to be amazing and it sure is amazing but nonetheless the moment/aspect of surprise was missing from the game.

Well deserved for GOW. It was the better game for me for sure.

But RDR2 was amazing nonetheless.

This is the first time Rockstar Games lost Game of the Year award, every time they publish GTA or RDR game they win GOTY, but RDR2 didn't published too early in 2018 :(

No, GTAV also didn't win GOTY at TGA in 2013 ... The Last of Us won!
