A few things R* should think about implementing in the game

So there are a lot of reviews out there, talking about how great of a game RDR2 is with it's massive world and attention to detail, that just sucks you in and totally immerses you in its western setting. This topic isn't about all the great things about RDR2, but about some issues i have stumbled upon, that i thought could use a change. As some people will maybe see the things I'll mention as unnecessary criticism of a perfect game, I wanna make sure that you guys know, this is the best game I've played in a long time and I'm kind of a fan boy.  I've been hyped for the game since it had been announced and watching LegacyKillaHD content in the last few months before its release didn't lower my expectations. When i finally got to play it, I was instantly convinced that R* had created the most stunning and vivid open world that i have ever seen. Nevertheless, with all the detail R* has been paying attention to, i could not feel but a little surprised about some features in the game where i felt the detail was missing. I will not talk about clunky controls, the wanted system or the pace of the game (the latter of which, i think is perfect, btw...oops, I somehow managed to talk about it), but will list a few things that i would like to see in the game. Many of them are really small things and some of you may consider them nitpicking but i still thought that they would improve the game. I'm also not a native english speaker, so pls don't be rude concerning any mistakes <3

- Bathtub in camp and/or travel soaps. A few Hours into the game, when I came back to camp at Horseshoe Overlook (Chapter 2) from a longer journey, Lenny commented on my being dirty and needing a bath. I thought "well that's a good idea, so where do i wash?". At this point i had already have the fist fight mission in Valentine and was familiar with the bathing mechanics in Hotels. I was then very disappointed that I wasn't able to wash myself in camp. This is a thing that really broke the immersion for me, because most of the camp members spend all their time in camp, where they naturally can't wash either. Yet, they mock Arthur for being all dirty. "Y'all should go wash up yourselves, d'uh!". There are some tubs in the camp (that you pour water in for the camp chores) and there even are animations of Arthur using water from water barrels or other sources to superficially wash himself. Those animations however are only shown after missions and loading screens rivers. Why can't we actively trigger those animations ourselves to get clean (maybe without any stat bonuses that you would get from a real bath) in order to stop silly comments from your dirty stinking camp members? An easy way to implement those would be to offer travel soaps in the general store, that Arthur can use near water sources. This could trigger the animation at the water sources maybe even with a small cutscene much like the ones u get when camping out in the wilderness (where u don't really camp at the exact same spot where you used your camp equip, but you're still nearby).

- "Dynamic" smoking and drinking animations. What i mean by this is that you should be able to really smoke a cigarette or cigar, as well as drink a bottle of booze from your satchel, not just always take ONE puff or sip and then throw the rest away. Arthur even smokes cigarettes in the cut scenes, so why can't he enjoy one outside of these? For those who only use cigarettes and booze for the stat benefits, Arthur could throw the stuff away once you start sprinting or pull out a gun. This would really improve the immersion IMO and give you more possibilities to really roleplay as Arthur Morgan.

- Hunger notification. So gaining and losing weight by eating too little or too much is a thing in the game. The only way to check your weight, is to go to main menu->player->arthur morgan->general->physique. I don't know about you guys, but i tried to eat regularly in the first few days playing this game, but somehow managed to lose weight, getting the status "underweight". It's not that much of a deal, because the stat changes really don't impact the gameplay (and it shouldn't, because this is no survival game), but people will comment on your weight, telling you that u lost weight, for example. This was actually the reason how i noticed, that Arthur was underweight in my game and only after this did i learn how to check his weight in the menu. I feel like there should be a notification, when Arthur is hungry, so you won't accidentally lose weight. I felt like Arthur is depicted as the enforcer of the gang that to me was supposed to be musclebound, so i didnt want him to be underweight. Yet, its pretty easy to lose focus of that, because so much is going on in the game while traveling. So i think it would be great if there was a notification to inform u that Arthur is hungry. It could be done by a stomach growling sound (which can be annoying after some time, I imagine, especially when u don't have any food for some time or actually want to lose weight) or simply by using the same notification that informs you that your horse needs a brushing (with a different icon of course).

I'm pretty sure, I had some more stuff in mind, but i don't recall everything right now. So maybe I will come back to this post and edit it. There also is other more fundamental stuff that, I think, could use some improvement like for example story mission design

Spoiler

(most of which end in a massive gunfight where you kill off whole town populations)

but i just wanna talk about those little things right now.
Do you guys agree to the above listed things or are you more like "HEY I DON'T HAVE TO WASH IN CAMP! MY HORSE'S BALLS SHRINK IN COLD WEATHER, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?"

I would have loved to have Arthur riding around with a cigar like me on my motorcycle or Clint Eastwood.

Agree-the camp bath thing should have been implemented.

Also think we should be able to loot everything-boots, hats, guns, gunbelts even take saddles and horses then keep or sell whatever we want or do not want.  Give them away  "Sadie, you look like you need a batter hat."  "Bill, rolled this gunbelt off a fat dead guy-should fit you."

Yep, I'd like to see those things.

Also would REALLY like it if the game would just let me chose outfits and load outs and freaking leave them the way I choose.

Don't make me leave camp or my own house to manage my weapons.  Ridiculous.  Annoying.

Totally agree, i actually was going to write this as well, but forgot it:

- Only 4 save slots for custom outfits are a little sparse, to say the least. I had the same problem with GTA Online, where u had more custom Outfits, that still weren't enough.

- No Weapons allowed in camp really is ridiculous. It's OK that u can't shoot the members of your own gang, I guess. But not being able to pull out your gun and clean it, when other gang members do it, really is annoying and sometimes even gamebreaking, when a mission is started in camp, followed by a cut scene which leaves your horse at a distance when the actual mission begins.

- Not being able to walk fast outside of camp... This is a much bigger point to me than not being able to run in camp. I think you should be able to run in camp, but it doesn't bother me that much, because i usually dont sprint anywhere, when there's people around. But not being able to walk fast in towns is just inconvenient if u immersively want to walk through the streets but not take too long to do it.

For the drinking and smoking, I kind of wonder how they came to that decision. You can drink at the bar, you can drink a whole cup of coffee by the fire. Yet you cannot do the same with the smokes, cigars, and the booze. Just wondering how they came to making the decision to implement certain things this way and certain things another way.

Also, sometimes when I load up the game, Arthur will be chilling out while leaning on a post or a barrel or something around camp, or around town. I know you can rest by holding down triangle anywhere but he will just kneel down like a tool. Wouldn't mind if he actually went into one these animations if he's near an object, considering it is actually programmed into the game already. Would be cool if you can then just smoke or drink away, for the immersion factor is all.

You shouldn't need a hunger notification. There's all kinds of food and you should already know most everyone eats at least 2x a day, sometimes 3. If you don't eat, you will suffer. Duh.

You also don't need a bathtub in camp, when a quick outfit change cleans you right up.

There's other, more meaningful and impactful things that could/should be added. None of which are on your list.

1.you should be able to keep hats you find, (i dont think it would be that hat, theres alot of hats we can pick up and keep but itd be better if we can keep any or up to like 6 npc hats)

2.you should be able to roll your hats like bill and other npcs,

3.you should be able to play as arthur after the story,

4.you should be able to hang out with camp members outside of camp

5. should be able to sell or drop guns

6. should be able to ride train or stagecoach without skipping the ride

7. should be able to hire prostitutes

Yes, i know i forgot to mention a lot of stuff. Please tell me about the things you would like to have in the game.

Changing outfits cleans you, alright. that is pretty convenient. It's totally unimmersive, though. There really should be a bathtub in camp, i think. Or any other logical means to clean yourself, not only for Arthurs sake, but for the gang members too.
About the eating 2-3 times a day: jeah, thats alright. but days are pretty short compared to real life (does anybody here know, how long they are in game?) and when you are focused on something like hunting or finding treasure, u can easily lose track of time. In real life you would notice that you have to eat, because you are hungry, but in game, you may just forget about it easily.

Here is another thing i forgot to mention:
While shopping, time just passes by as usual. Some would say this is just the game being realistic, but it's really not. Trying new outfits in stores or customizing your gun takes relatively more time than other things in the game (like for example riding from valentine to rhodes in under 5 minutes). you will most likely spend more than 5 minutes in a shop to buy a new custom outfit. in the meantime, days pass. Logically, you're not eating anything during that time. Does this affect your character in any way? i think it does, i'm not sure, though.

Here's another really small thing, i noticed:

While playing Poker, whenever you are the Dealer and are the last one to check, your Character always knocks on the table to signalize that you do, then slowly puts down his cards, to take the deck and reveal the community cards. I always find this a little unnecessary and unnatural. Im not a big Poker player, but i would just say that i'm checking, and instantly start to show the cards, no knocks or any other notification needed. i would agree that this is really nitpicking.

BTW, can I edit my original post to add stuff that i forgot?

Maybe they will add it to Online mode. For GTA Online they had moves, you could perform, like clapping or facepalms. So this could possibly be a thing in Multiplayer

More authentic guns of this period like old cap and ball percussions revolver (thats used up to the early 20 century...last build by colt 1873) and his cartridge conversions versions ...colt double action thunderer or lighning .

More real interaction with gangmember like compagnions or later build a new gang ?

More bounty hunts .

Buying later buildings and inventory ...weapon displays to collect more guns and weapons or versions from it...stable for more as 4 horses .

We can find kidding viking and pig masks and can not collect iconic hats like 10 gallons hats when we find it ..all not highlighted hats we lost after load a game .

The loading of a game is very ...courious and far from the real situation and place who we safe it.

I really hope the level of customization is greater for the online game. I have only found one hat in the game I actually like and it can't be saved because it was an NPC hat. Being able to customize our hat should be a no brainer. Also the John NPC wears the Scout coat from the catalog and I'd like mine to look like his because it's more aged and worn than the one you can put on Arthur.

Also I wish wagons were more useful. We should be able to load multiple hides or carcasses onto a wagon and carry them to town or to camp.

I agree with this, at the very least it would have been nice to have fixed loadouts that aren't changed for no reason. Also the option to not carry two pistols would be great. I don't care to dual wield and I can reload my Schofield faster than I can switch to the second one, so for me that extra pistol on my belt serves no purpose, plus I don't like the look of it.

While I think the loadout shout not be screwed with by the game, I do find it a good thing to have all my weapons on the horse.

There have been and will be numerous occasions that I grabbed a rolling block to kick some elk-ass when I spotted a rabbit looking at me funny. Back to the horse, grab the varmint rifle, shoot, miss, get the rolling block again because elke are just easier to hit.

Not to mention the situations where I'd be out hunting only to be held at gunpoint along the road. A rolling block rifle is not gonna do you a lot of good in that situation.

I think you're gonna have to wait for new Undead Nightmare DLC on that one.

Permanently too. GTA allowed you to drop guns, but they'd be back the very next session.

But yeah, you should be able to get rid of the guns that are obsolete because you got something better.

That would be nice. Just sit back, cup of coffee, smoke and just watch Rockstar's Wild West screensaver go by.

I could seriously go for that.

It's just amazing to me how important this is to people.

Am I less of a man for never having picked up a game and go: "Man, I wish I could f*ck something in this."

To be fair, there were several occasions in The Witcher 3 where I went: "I'm glad I tapped that ass."

So it all balances out, really.

I also thought about this, and it is indeed very convenient to have all guns that serve different purposes on your horseback. but as u also state later on in your post, you should be able to permanently drop/sell weapons. I understand that the game doesn't want you to lose 1 beloved gun, when you find another one. But at least you should be able to chose which ones you don't wanna take with you and just sell them

10 hours ago, GusMcCree said:

This would be a nice possibility to solve this. Instead of a display i would be okay with just a box like we have one for changing outfits.

After all, you don't really need more than 1 or 2 sidearms, 1 hunting rifle for big game, the varmint for small game, 1 repeater for medium range gunfights, 1 shotgun for close quarters and dismemberment, bow and small game arrows for the really smal stuff. Then you have all possible situations covered. Those are 4 long guns and a bow. I would be okay, if you had the option to store only 4 weapons on your saddle and an additional 2 on your back, which you then wouldn't automatically put back on your horse after not having used them (unless there is space available ofc).
Instead the game lets us keep all special weapons and versions of it. My horse carries 2 Rolling Block Rifles at all times, for crying out loud. Not to mention all the special revolvers and pistols you get from other famous gunslingers.
This is even more strange as the difference in stats between guns of the same type is so shallow that it comes down to personal preference anyway.

I think it is more the fact that there are hookers in the game which constantly ask Arthur if he wanted some company. It's just strange that you can greet other people or antagonize them until you have to shoot or beat them to death but you can only "Decline" or "Reject" a hooker's offer. I mean, i hope Arthur jerks off in between the cutscenes, when he goes to bed. Otherwise, I really feel bad for him. As Arthur and Mary always repeat when they see each other in game, their thing was a looong time ago. so when did our man get laid the last time? Shouldn't have been that much of an effort to implement a cut scene showing Arthur and a hooker go to a room together, so you can chose to give him a good time. The cut scene doesn't have to be more sexual than taking a comfort bath in my opinion. Hiring a hooker should then maybe unlock different dialogues (even just the intonation) with that exact hooker outside of the room (I mean something like "You look lonely again, sweety. I'm here if you need me").

I would love it if you could play a musical instrument. There's plenty of instruments in the game like; banjo, guitar, harmonica, accordion and some others.

i think it would be really cool if you could craft and then sit down at a campsite and play a song. Maybe even members of the gang could join in or other random npcs.

I'd like a little light next to my wardrobe.

If I decide to play dress up at the wrong time of day, I'm just guessing I'm putting on a red vest.

On a more positive note: it's never not funny finding out you look like the Joker when you go outside.

A lot of good points on this topic and I agree or have thought of many.   I do like the game-love it even in the way I liked/loved RDR1.

Honest opinion, except for a few things and the graphics improvements it's not really any better than the original-even less in some ways such as the lack of weapons.

A lot of the stuff talked about I honestly expected-to be able to make use of wagons, to be able to pic up prostitues, be able to loot the hell out of everything-like I mentioned-take the boots, gunbelts, saddles, weapons and so on.

That was also the impression I got from the reviews and commercials  "You can go into any building and steal", well no, not really-lots of locked buildings and stealing from them is limited to a few items and a few repetative objects to steal from.

Supposedly you can fall in with some random person and ride and talk or meet random people-every NPC has a story kind of thing but I've found no one to fall in and ride with-many of them are Dicks and my honor is ok, not high, not low.  Ride up to a random farm or campsite and they generally tell you to leave or start shooting at you.

It would be fun to walk over to the bath in camp and have one of the girls bathing and invite you in or start griping at you.  Have Abigail chasing a naked and soapy Jack thru camp yelling at him to get back in the tub, stupid stuff that happens in real life.

It's a good game, great graphics but I've honestly found less interaction between Arthur and the camp folk or NPCs than I did in Assassin's Creed Origions-maybe close to each other but it honeslty does not feel lie something in-development for eight years with the obvious bugs-missing characters, weapons changng and so forth.

I really hate dissing the game-hell, I have a 5'x3' poster from Gamestops front window on the wall next to me, not getting rid of it but my expectations were a bit higher for the dev time it is supposed to have undergone when a lot of the issues are stuff people noticed right away but in eight years none of R*'s people saw them?

I really like the hunger indication. Perhaps subtle belly rumbling instead if a UI element, but it would be nice to have some sort of indication in terms of food.
