How do y'all think this would work in online? Do you think it will be an actual feature in Online. Will we be able to use it on other players or will it be disabled for use on other players?

I'm not sure myself how they would implement this. For example, if you lasso someone and tie them up, how would they escape? Maybe allow an option for the ropes to become loose over time but the other players could just lasso him up again. Some players may just leave and rejoin to escape the state of being lassoed.

Fun2 noted that he hopes this is disabled in Online, and I tend to agree; as much as I would love to use it at least against animals and NPCs, it will likely be omitted from Online in the same way the Stun gun was in GTA Online.

That is, until the PC version comes out, and a script kiddie gives everyone lassos...

Gore is another potential sticking point in Online that's going to need serious thought. I doubt anyone wants their arms blown off, only to still be alive and defenseless, while another player treats you as a punching bag.

I'd prefer the lasso to stay for animals and npcs only. Another player who lassos you probably just wants to waste your time, same as in GTA when they block you in a store or run you over.

I dunno if lost limbs would even be an option, since as far as I know, you can't lose limbs in the main game. But I don't see the point anyway.

Lassos could work if being hog tied is disabled in PvP. I wouldn’t mind the ability to dismount another player via lasso though. Maybe a even a quick drag, but no long distance dragging.

The lasso is such a big part of the single player experience, I’d hate to see it cut from Online. Unfortunately a percentage of the player base seems to be in favour of cutting this feature in fear of it being used to grieve other players in PvP. An alternative to petitioning the lasso be cut from Online would be to petition the lasso be restricted from PvP, but remain usable against NPCs. Unfortunately I fear Rockstar might see all the Lassos fears  and decide to cut it. Whatcwe need to do is come together to request to be implemented online but without PvP use. This offers players the best of both worlds. We can still catch Wild horses and hog tie bounty’s, etc. I don’t think those players asking for it to be cut understand how many features will be cut along with it. The lasso has more purpose then just dragging and hog tying. We NEED the lasso Online.

The lasso is not only an integral part of RDR, but also of western themes in general.  To omit it would be a huge mistake.  It's my favourite thing to use.

just straight up removing it would be such a lazy, unimaginative way of preventing the lasso from being used as a griefing tool. There are so many simple things they could do to work around it that don't involve removing it, I like the idea of it only working on other players as a means of dismounting them from their horse or wagon. Or worst case they could just prevent it from being used on other players at all, but still keep it for us to use on npc's.

why should they stay alive with blown off limbs? please dont change anything about the gore, it’s perfect

^^ It's one thing to grief someone in GTA Online when all you can do is shoot them; instant death, some blood, but no gore.

Now imagine that someone is streaming live video and griefing you, doing whatever they can to intimidate you. Blowing limbs or your head off, and dragging your maimed corpse around the game with a rope arguably now takes on a more sinister tone.

Simply put, the ultra-bloody realism of RDR2 is different when you become the gore; not some nameless NPC or bot.

These potential issues are part of why I believe Rockstar is using a "beta" (read: probationary period) to see what and how players do when RDR2 goes Online.

You'll have respawned fresh as a daisy, what's it to you if your previous body is a couple pounds lighter than your current one? I think RDR2 handles gore/dismemberment a lot less gratuitously than many other games, I was dozens of hours in before I even encountered it and was honestly shocked to see it. It feels like simply the realistic result of certain weapons in certain circumstances rather than overdone eye candy.

It is a good addition to have in the game for animals and NPCs. They should impact these categories only. Players shouldn’t be affected by a lasso.

Pretty easy to implement the system where you cannot shoot your friends in story mode... the crosshair greys out when you target over them. Same could happen with the lasso in online... you can use it against animals and NPCs maybe, but not other players.

I doubt it will be allowed to be used on other players Online. Getting lassoed and hogtied by some random person is not my idea of fun, or anyone I hope.

The lasso needs to be in Online. Here's how it could work:

Certain NPCs in RDR2 cannot be hogtied. Once someone gets lassoed and you try to hogtie them they fight you off. So players should be able to tap the melee button repeatedly to push them off and get out. Plus once you fall down from getting lassoed you should still be able to aim your gun and shoot the person coming up to you just like NPCs sometimes shoot their gun at you. NPCs can also get themselves out of a hogtie too so players should have that option as well. Also if you get dragged then you have a chance to get out that too. There's plenty of chances. It could absolutely work.

Also do people not realize how hard it's going to be to lasso someone, hogtie them, and move them somewhere? I mean you are very vulnerable and could be shot easily not to mention there could be multiple enemy players around meaning your pretty much screwed if you're trying to hogtie someone. I say as long as players under attack from a lasso have all these options to escape and negate it then it won't be a problem.

But that would make it pointless? And a waste of developers time implementing it when they could be working on something more important? It would just become a griefing tool, because once you "escaped", the aggressor, or his/her friends, could instantly lasso you over and over again, placing you in a loop of having to escape several times.

No it wouldn't be pointless. And not a waste of time implementing it either. Didn't I just list all the ways limiting it from griefing players? Those would need to be in place to alleviate all the concerns people have and are listing here. Who says they could just instantly lasso you again? There would be a cooldown when trying to use the lasso on that specific person since they escaped and they'd have plenty of time to gun you down. I don't think people realize how hard it is going to be to lasso other players without getting shot unless you sneak up on them.

Definitely fine with 'magically doesn't work on players' - or if R* does want a more realistic solution, have a quick-time event thing where if you're tied, you can free your arm, cut the rope, and get out. That'd probably lead to a default strategy of 'lasso to immobilise, then shoot them on the ground before they free themselves', so ...yeah, I'd personally go with 'lasso doesn't work on players or their personal mounts'.

Need to have it in there somewhere, though, just because it'd come in handy for things like bounties, hunting animals, catching escaped horses, and a whole bunch of other things that'd be fun to do in RDO, but not if the only practical tool you have for interacting with stuff is a gun.

I don’t care if it’s enabled for PvP, I just don’t want it cut from Online period. We need it for PvE, bounties, breaking horses, etc.

If they cut it, allllll that up there ⬆️ Gets cut too. That means....

No Lassoing Wild Horses.

No Lassoing Bounties.

No Lassoing NPCs.

That could result in No carrying and stowing NPCs/animals on your horse. It could be a domino effect of missing features. I already fear MANY single player features will be cut in Online.

WE NEED LASSO’s ONLINE.

I mean, I'm assuming we can hunt down bounties in RDO just like we can in singleplayer and we need the lasso for that. Either it'll only be enabled in PVE lobbies or it'll be enabled in all lobbies.

I don't see the lasso being a huge issue. If a player gets lassoed, they have to mash a certain button quick enough to escape. After that, the person who used the lasso is unable to use it on that same player for a certain amount of time, which is enough time for the victim to run away or get their revenge. Same thing for being hogtied, only getting hogtied requires the victim to struggle more, possibly even for a few phases before being able to free themselves. Also, when someone is lassoed, they don't ragdoll onto the ground; they stand on their feet and the person with the lasso needs to get close to them to hogtie them, which is dangerous, considering they might break free and shoot them dead in the face.

As for lost limbs, I'm all for it. I want to get my limbs blown off as much as I want to blow off the limbs of other players, all for gory fun and satisfying combat. Obviously, getting your limbs blown off means instant death, so gore isn't triggered until you die.

I think you should be able to lasso other players too. To stop this from being a griefing tool they just need a "suicide button" to stop players from imprisoning each other. Would be great for role play communities too.

I think I'd rather have lasso trolling than another EWO option...

NPC's don't stay hogtied forever in RDR1 and RDR2. In RDR1, if you turned your back to them, the rope magically disappeared and then the NPC escaped. In RDR2, there's an actual animation for when the NPC breaks free from the rope. I can only assume that if we do get the lasso in RDR2 Online, that we will be able to fight it and break free once we are lassoed or hogtied.

Better have the dang lasso online. My buddies and I have been looking forward to fistfighting and lassoing each other off of cliffs..

Edit: also..if i remember correctly...in rdr1 multiplayer, you could lasso each other (and maybe drag for a short distance), but not hogtie each other...too lazy to Google it sorry lol

I hope we have the lasso, and preferably you can't break free either. If you manage to miss someone and let them get close enough to tie you up like that, then you kind of deserve whatever trollery awaits you. Should be easy to defend yourself from someone with a lasso.

That said, first thing's first - I just want it in some form. So if people can break free - meh, at least it'd be there anyway.
