Mostly third-person, though I'll switch to first now and again to get a closer look at certain things.

3rd in the closest option. At first I hated it, esp in interiors but I grew to enjoy it and prefer it

I've barely touched first person. Just so you can have an idea, the first time I used a gun in first person was over by the end of Chapter 4 and that was me trying to shoot a gun that was on the ground to see if it'd move.

Spoiler

It didn't.

First person isn't working properly.

When you move L3 to the left/right he runs faster (sidewards) than if you move it forwards.

That leads to the character stopping every time you move L3 from the side to forwards.

And that's just frustrating so I don't use FP at all lol

Third person only. I cannot stand first person on foot, but I don't mind the odd drive about though.

If games like Far Cry were third person, I might try them too. Genuinely look good, but I can't concentrate without getting a headache. :)

I hope there's no advantages to first person in PvP here, otherwise it'll see me again remove a big element from online gaming. I've no interest in that unbalanced bollocks. Everyone should be running at the same pace (unless they choose to go slower).

Indeed, I do that a little too. Easier to read etc. :)

Third person. I've barely used first person though I think rampages in first person would be fun seeing as now decapitation's back.

Third person, although I do go into first person when looting indoors because you can spot things a bit easier and you have greater mobility. I'll occasionally go into first person when I'm looting bodies after a gun fight to get a closer look at the grisly gunshot wounds - I swear it seems like you're actually blasting off chunks of flesh and bone when you shoot someone in the face, I don't know if it's really good parallax occlusion or if it's actual deformation on the character model, either way I'm glad fp mode is an option.

I would use First Person a lot more if I could switch between it and my set Third Person distance without neesing to cycle the camera all the time.

I only play first person actually.

I also turned off aim assist and I removed the crosshair to make the game more immersive.

Shooting works fine in first person even. You can aim down the sights.

I have used first person, free aim and no aim assist all along and enjoyed even more when I discovered the iron sights.

First person just doesnt feel right in GTA V or RDR2, third person is R*.

I used first-person on occasion. Usually while looting or wanting an immersive view. A couple of times while shooting. I frequently swap to first-person on horseback to make sure nobody is in my way, as my War Horse gets in the way a lot and I have run into people before.

R* can learn from Bethesda right here (not every day I can say that). For third-person, you should be able to hold down the "switch camera" button to adjust your third-person camera distance. As such, it'd just be a single button press to toggle between your preferred third-person camera and first-person. Sadly, that bind is held up by the cinematic camera, which I guess is actually somewhat useful for once. Alternatively, R* can have a slider option in the menus for third-person camera distance.

Even then, Max Payne 3 is probably the only R* game on consoles that has controls that feel remotely "butter smooth." Going from first-person mode on PS4 to PC with GTA V, it's a day-and-night difference (still far from perfection for the latter). This is why R* shouldn't neglect the PC crowd as much as they do. The complex and sometimes-clunky controls of Red Dead Redemption 2 pretty much beg for native mouse and keyboard support. Initial sales and average user reviews would be even higher yet, as long as R* and TTWO didn't pull another OpenIV fiasco. Combat relies too heavily on auto-aim. When Red Dead Online launches, PvP modes will still likely be seen as an afterthought, which is where the ugly side of auto-aim reliance truly shines.

Does the game even have a high-angle camera option? It's a fairly small gripe (outside of Saint Denis anyways), but it'd be great if I could see what's directly in front of me better.

For those who have issues with the "clunky" controls, have you spent much time messing with the settings?

What? You got it backwards here.

The third person in Rockstar games is better than any third person in bethesda games.

Also the first person shooting in RDR2 is far better than the FPS in Fallout 4 lol.

No he means the ability to switch between First and Third with a single button press and the ability to adjust the distance of the Third Person camera using a slider instead of set distances.

Mostly third, though when the PC version comes out, I'll be using FP more often, as I spend way too much time on foot in TP trying to readjust or correct my character's direction, dodging objects just trying to go places, or pick items up.

IMO, (like GTA Online and even games like BF3) the biggest advantage of TP is when you're on a horse/vehicle--being able to see more of your surroundings has many advantages. There are simply big differences between FP and TP, and they both have good and bad aspects to them.

I've never really liked Rockstar's implementation of FP though when compared to other games like BF3. Even with the FOV maxed out, BF3's FP movement and FOV just feels far more natural and easier to use than in GTA Online or RDR2--weapon perspective and placement is better, etc.

I've used first person a little bit, it's nice when travelling about especially by wagon, good for getting better looks at things and obviously the minigames and side activities are good in first person, particularly fishing.

But for general combat and exploring though it's still a bit motion sickness inducing for me even with the FoV on max and view bobbing set to reduced.

I am really glad they did it though, I can see my self using it more in my second playthrough and in online.

When GTA V was updated to include a first person mode, I assumed it would suck....and it did. I tried the first person view when I first started the game but never again. I fiddled around with the controls but could never find a setting I liked. I knew it wasn't going to be like COD/Destiny but figured I could get close. Nope. Left it at third person view and kept playing like that ever since.
