Does anyone think Rockstar will release a RDR1 remaster as single player RDR2 DLC?

The new areas on the Red Dead Redemption II map wouldn’t make sense for a remastered Red Dead Redemption... John could only stay in West Elizabeth, New Austin and Mexico during his story. Grown up Jack however could probably go there but a remaster really isn’t necessary imo.

I was reading another thread and there are some plot holes from the two games. Things that were said to have happened in Redemption 1 that didn’t in Redemption 2. So now I feel it’s even less likely that a dlc remake will happen.

we're not getting singleplayer add ons I can pretty much feel it in the old bones. We'll get some clothing and guns added to singleplayer I imagine, like GTAV.

@lol232 funny you say that, about three months ago when the RDR2 hype was up there on the scale, I went out and bought an old PS3 console and RDR because I will not entertain that psNOW bullsh*t. got it all for £40 and got £20 back off of it when I resold the console this week. so all in all I spent £20, not too much more than a months subscription for psnow.

The Xbox 1 X enhanced version of RDR1, plus all the DLC, and Undead Nightmare was only $10 approximately a month ago ($30 now).

Not likely, they already did the Xbox/PS versions to port them.  Been several good reasons about the techincal stuff then add in some of the voice actors are gone-Landon Ricketts VA passed away for one.

No, I don't expect it to happen, not even slightly.

They could get new voice actors -- They have new voice actors playing MAIN characters in RDR2, that were also in RDR1, when the original VA isn't even dead. That isn't a reason they wouldn't remaster RDR1..

People wants a RDR1 remaster, right?

And the entire RDR1 map except for mexico at the moment has already been fully remastered and put into RDR2 and is currently playable.

So rockstar put in the effort to remake the original map but surprisingly it's empty.

It just seems like now's the perfect time to remaster RDR1 and use RDR2's assets to do it. How awesome would that be? You complete RDR2 to then move onto RDR1. 2 games become 1 creating probably the largest game Rockstar has ever made.

The best part is that the RDR1 remaster could also become a stand alone game just like Undead Nightmare. If you bought the undead nightmare disk you wouldn't need the RDR copy to play it. So there is also an incentive for rockstar to release it as both a stand alone game and DLC.

Yes please, I would love that. But I have PS4 and PC, so I would need to have it on one of these. :) Would pay a full price, since I didnt play the first one.

If Rockstar doesn't do it I sure as hell hope some modding team does.

Well, I would not be sure that will never happen. Why would they keep whole Mexico map in the game? For Online? I doubt. Rumours were, LC was going to GTAO and that didin't happen as well.

I doubt it. The motion capture they did for RDR1 would probably look outdated and awkward if they tried to port it into the new game.
The cutscenes would probably need to be shot again for it to work and that's a lot of effort for a remaster.

This shouldn't be a barrier. The animation that the models skeletons work with have always been good. You put new textures over them and they are fully updated. Which we already have. In practice there is some adjustment needed but it shouldn't be huge.

The big barrier is adding in Mexico. Yes it's there in the game but all low res for a view from the distance. Those who have glitched in you can see that the forts etc are not complete.

This won't happen. Just like they shut down Liberty City for IV mod that the Open IV team were working on.

In my view they ought to do this. It's low effort and high income as far as I can see. Unfortunately the guys at the top want new IP. Maybe they're right, but my own view is they are missing an opportunity.

But the rocky launch of RDR2 PC doesn't help things.

If it was going to happen my thought was it would have released with the PC version.  I am more doubtful about it happening now.  Would def buy it if it does.

Personally, I’d like new IP too.

A lot of modern media is rebooted old IP (in movies for instance the situation is terrible, we have reboots/refreshes of Terminator, Star Wars, Predator, Alien, Rambo ...) and it gets so dull.

Given the choice between a new IP from R* or an upgraded RDR, I would prefer a new IP please, every time. Try something new.

The thing is it doesn’t have to be either or. They can do both. It’s significantly less work to remaster an old game than develop a whole new open world.

I kept waiting for the Remaster and decided to replay the PS3 version.  It's been almost a decade since I played it.

The way game dev works is the bulk of the team has to be working on something before a game hits its release date.  So Rockstar was doing a lot of Art for something.  This is typically DLC, but it may have been a bulk of RDO content.  I still can't imagine it being GTA6 over 2 years ago.  Maybe Bully 2 or a remaster of Bully.  I was holding out for a RDR Remaster because so much of the design, VO, and systems are already in place.  Their scripting system probably hasn't changed that much either so missions could be fairly easy to hook into the updated RDR2 framework.  Cutscenes would have to be redone.  Beyond key chracters, characters models and character animation could be remixed from existing RDR2 assets.

They could've added a new subplot to allow Marston access to the rest of RDR2 placespace.  Even if it was just repurposed RDO content like Madam Nazar Collecting, Bounty Hunting, and the other roles.

However at this point... hearing nothing, and the PC version has been out for awhile, and RDO seems to be gasping for content, I can only think that Rockstar has decided to skip a RDR Remaster.  Maybe there's a chance they'll announce something between E3 and Gamescom this summer, but there's been no hints to anything other than a trickle of RDO content.  I suppose someone could snoop the voice actor call sheets to see if some past RDR actor or new casting call sheets from Rockstar to suggest what they've been working on.

I always thought they would, so the PC people get the whole story. A few changes to dialogue for continuity purposes is needed amongst other things, Mexico for instance. Not sure how cheap or profitable it would be, not an expert.

Even people that didn't play RDR1 would buy it. There are plenty of people that played RDR2 but never RDR1, and I'm sure if they liked RDR2 they would like to play a version of the game that is more "modern."

Unfortunately it really doesn't seem like it's going to happen. After all this time? I highly doubt it. Unless Rockstar takes Take-Two's complaint about them taking too long between releases, and dedicating a small team to remastering/remaking RDR1 or developing it is an expansion/separate release like Undead Nightmare, I don't see it happening. It honestly surprises me it hasn't happened since T2 seems to be putting pressure on Rockstar. They're scummy enough that a remaster would be right up their lazy-alley.

Since they made redemption 1 backward compatible I don’t see a remaster, they’re pretty much done with that game.  As far as a story mode dlc I’m losing hope on anything related to Mexico or  guarma much less any other map expansion.  As for an undead nightmare type dlc we might get a survival mode for online but being as broken as online is they probably would f*ck that up too.  As beautiful as this game is R* f*cked the football on it and time/patience is running out for most players.

I never really bought this idea about RDR's "spaghetti code". I mean, 10 years have passed, they could have done something with the game already, seeing as it's one of their most succesfull games. And if they really wanted to do something with RDR1, they could hand the game to a competent studio like Bluepoint Games to "untangle the mess" they created, but I guess it's not the priority for the new R*, same with SP DLC.

Ikr, I meant RDR as a whole series ;)

But since we're already ~1,5 year after original release of RDR2, I highly doubt there will be anything new for SP.

I never bought it either. I’ve seen this rumor circulate for years, and the last time I tried tracking it to the source, the first mention I found of it was some unsourced post in a thread on the Gamespot forums back in 2009. And it was pretty detailed, too detailed, about why it wasn’t coming to PC. Saying that Rockstar used “console shortcuts” to make the game run on the systems, and there being “no //notes” meaning “nobody knows what any lines of code in the game does.” Over the years this has been watered down to “spaghetti code.” Sure we have The Benz Files which document the development trouble, but nothing that supports any of the rumors which have been around since 2009.

The fact that Microsoft’s in-house emulator can run it at 4k/solid 30FPS, along with other slight improvements—(the Xbox One X being beat by an FX-8300, and comparable to an RX 480 or 580) tells me that it probably isn’t as “spaghetti” as many people think. That means if they released their in-house emulator on Windows 10 like Phil Spencer has shown interest in years ago, I would be able to run the damn game on my R5 2600 and RX 580 just as well as an X1X. Meanwhile, obviously not an in-house emulator, RPCS3 and Xenia still struggle to run the game without enhancements on CPUs stronger than mine.

I wish they would just give RDR1 the Bully Scholarship Edition treatment. I love Bully, but RDR1 is as deserving, if not more, of such a release.

I'd buy this in a heartbeat, I'd play full price to have rdredemption in rdr2's engine. Going back to rdredemption after playing 2 is gonna suck.

Same applies for gtaiv in gtav's engine but that obviously never happened. If sony did bsckwsrd compatibility I'd also buy it for that tbf
