Does anyone think Rockstar will release a RDR1 remaster as single player RDR2 DLC?

People wants a RDR1 remaster, right?

And the entire RDR1 map except for mexico at the moment has already been fully remastered and put into RDR2 and is currently playable.

So rockstar put in the effort to remake the original map but surprisingly it's empty.

It just seems like now's the perfect time to remaster RDR1 and use RDR2's assets to do it. How awesome would that be? You complete RDR2 to then move onto RDR1. 2 games become 1 creating probably the largest game Rockstar has ever made.

The best part is that the RDR1 remaster could also become a stand alone game just like Undead Nightmare. If you bought the undead nightmare disk you wouldn't need the RDR copy to play it. So there is also an incentive for rockstar to release it as both a stand alone game and DLC.

I doubt it. The motion capture they did for RDR1 would probably look outdated and awkward if they tried to port it into the new game.
The cutscenes would probably need to be shot again for it to work and that's a lot of effort for a remaster.

Even if cutscene animations are a little bit outdated but the gameplay is remade in RDR2 they would still make a lot of money.
Remember that they failed to make RDR1 on PC cause the code was messy? This could be a way around it.

Just think how much money they can save. They can sell it as new product on all platforms but they don't have to make a new map (only parts of it), they don't have to hire voice actors and writers, they don't have to create new missions or story. Almost everything can be reused either from rdr or rdr2.

And even if they have to remake some animations and record new motion capture - its still way cheaper and easier then making and recording something complacently new.

I thought there was a rumor floating around that R* was planning to remaster RDR1 and release as DLC? Maybe it was just wishful thinking on someone's part...

Regardless, I fully expect this game to go the way of GTA V (with new Story Mode content cancelled or reworked for Online).

I don't think the animations have aged that badly, to be honest. The existing remakes of the original two Yakuza games (from 2005 and 2006 respectively) have plenty of leftover animations from their original incarnations. Though lots of stuff has also been touched up.

I think the only animation that has aged badly from RDR1 is the awkward running, lol.

I wish Sony wasn't a bunch of morons and introduced backwards compatibility with graphical improvements rather than introducing that stupid sh*t called "PSNow" only available in like 20 countries.

Hmmm, I just can't call it.

I mean, it would be different and I'd certainly get in on it too. As @Piro said above too, it's a possible way for PC gamers to play if they haven't and looking at LA Noire, and the old R* games like Bully, The Warriors, Red Dead Revolver and the GTA 3D trilogy have all been remastered a bit at least, with trophies too. Re-releasing their older content for a newer audience and for older fans alike seems to be doing ok for R* (Among other companies).

That said. Might cost R* a few more bucks than those other games, I don't know, and if they aren't sure, why spend the cash. The New Austin we have in RDR2 will need much work as it's quite different as it is here.

I do doubt it and certainly don't expect anything quite as involved, I'd take it in a heartbeat though, that and Undead Nightmare. It could be a way to 'update' story mode so they don't have to add actual new content as they have their share of flack for not updating GTA V's story too.

And also GTA IV/Liberty City over onto V's too. Now if they did both, It'd blow my mind. But I think that's dreamland stuff entirely.

But I'm not ruling it out completely. Genuinely, I'm on the fence.

It's possible to use PS Now by sharing accounts with a friend in the US. I've been doing it to pass the time and it's quite entertaining. Stream quality varies, so I'd much rather play the first RDR on my 360 (as I currently am, waiting for RDR2 PC).

I was very surprised to see Bloodborne and Until Dawn on there. Maybe RDR2 will be there in a lifetime or two. 😛

There is a workaround of course, but I'd have to pay monthly for that sh*t, there will be no graphical upgrades whatsoever and I'd have input lag with the stream. I'd much rather be able to toss my disc in and play like on XBOX.

That's true. The first game really does need a remaster. It runs like absolute ass on 360, the aliasing makes looking at stuff in the distance a pain, and there's just an inherent lack of smoothness to the entire thing, especially after playing new-gen games (not even talking about 60 FPS here).

Other than those technical quibbles, the game would fit just fine gameplay-wise in 2018. We could really use a miracle right about now.

New Austin isn't as developed as in RDR1 and mexico would require a lot of work too.

I wouldn't mind a remaster but i think i would honestly prefer them making good DLC like possibly Undead Nightmare 2 or whatever.

Yeah that would be depressing, the story in RDR2 is good enough that I feel it warrants a few DLCs that expand or it.

Sony is total dogsh*t when it comes to backwards compatibility. Even when they introduced PS2 games you STILL couldn't use your old discs, so the greedy sh*ts make you pay for them all over again. Microsoft had the far better idea in regards to this.

Rockstar, make an all new Ultimate Edition of Red Dead Redemption. Would pay full price for it and a remake of Undead Nightmare.

It would be a great update. And I wish R* would.  But if tying up the story, isnt already difficult enough.

Technically many of the towns need huge changes.  For instance, one town is a run down ghost town in RDR, but in RDR2 is alive with shops and npcs.  Which in turn means many of the towns in the east should show aging.

I have already reevaulated John Marston.  Now, his epic quest seems motivated by pure self interest rather than settling a score where he was done terribly wrong.

I wish I was just able to actually f*cking own the game instead of that PSNow bullsh*t.

we're not getting singleplayer add ons I can pretty much feel it in the old bones. We'll get some clothing and guns added to singleplayer I imagine, like GTAV.

@lol232 funny you say that, about three months ago when the RDR2 hype was up there on the scale, I went out and bought an old PS3 console and RDR because I will not entertain that psNOW bullsh*t. got it all for £40 and got £20 back off of it when I resold the console this week. so all in all I spent £20, not too much more than a months subscription for psnow.

I think it's possible but not necessarily likely. However, having a large chunk of the map already good to go makes it more possible than it would be otherwise. I'd be surprised if they've completely ruled it out, at least.

No. First of all it wouldn't be a remaster it would be a full on remake. They'd literally be remaking almost everything about the first Redemption to work inside the new one's engine. I don't think that would be nearly as easy as some people are making it out to be.They'd have to rebuild almost every character model and building for the remake. Not to mention completely rebuilding Mexico.

Even if that weren't more work than it's worth they'd have to completely recode every mission, maybe even redesign some of them to fit RDR2's A.I. and other new systems. If Rockstar were interested in doing this I can't imagine them releasing a fully remade AAA game as DLC.
