Arthur Morgan dumbest R* protagonist?

Dont get me wrong, he's extremely stupid but I get alot of humor out of it. Maybe second is Franklin from GTA V? Can't say Trevor from GTA V he's extremely smart in my opinion.

Well, Arthur isn't an intellectual, but I think he possesses quite a lot of "street smarts" and general life wisdom, which makes him intelligent in his own way, but could not be considered intelligent in the sense of something like Einstein. 
He also doesn't seem to be a person who overthinks a lot of suitations, which might totally come of as dumb. Especially compared to 'I've got a plan'-Dutch who generally seems to be well-spoken and can be seen reading a lot. So yeah, I understand why he might be considered "dumb".

Nope.  I think he is just fine as he is.  How are you measuring his Intellect?   Chemist Proff at the College Intelligent or Plumber Intelligent?

 

Plumber might not know what chemicals and heat combos are needed to remove the Gold from the components of a PC, turn them into solution and remove, seperate and turn each Metal back into a pure form but how many Chem Proffs know what gradient a sewer lines needs to be run at for X-amount of distance and how to poperly cut the trench to get that gradient so the poop doesn't run back into the house?

Nah, he knew what was going on with Dutch, he knew the gang was finished etc... suggesting he does have insight. Because the timing of the game is very early, he doesn't possess as much knowledge as other characters. However, he does keep a journal, draws and can write about his experiences too. 

 

He's also been raised by Dutch and Hosea and if we can assume the other protags atleast when to school, they had a education whereas Arthur didn't have such things.

Arthur is an intelligent person that’s never received a good education. You can tell this by his good observational ability and strong insight. But both from a mix of being born in the 1860s and having lived as an outlaw orphan for basically his entire life, he’s only got the bare minimum level of education needed to survive. An intellect gone to waste, basically. 

 

John meanwhile actually isn’t that intelligent. He’s a good man that simply tended to follow the leader, and only late in his life was able to really think properly for himself. Even then, he rarely came up with truely cunning ideas.

Even to this day, people still confuse intelligence with education... there's plenty of dumb 'educated' people around- Professor MacDougal is proof enough of that.

 

Arthur isn't an absolute genius, but he is perceptive and smarter than many around him, and at times has better intuition than even Dutch. What ties Arthur back is his loyalty/subordinance to Dutch, which he only truly acts against at the end of the game.

He may not be well educated,probably because he lives in the 19th century when most people weren't really that well educated and because he was an outlaw his whole life so he didn't really have an opportunity to go to school,but he does seem to be street smart and is able to get the job done.

Historically in America most people could read and write, even knew Latin.   They were not as advanced as we are now with large groups of graduates who do not know anything about the Government and how it is supposed to operate, what the Constitution is and businesses having to hold remedial classes for College grads because they cannot do the basic reading/writing/Arithmatic.

 

So, yeah, the did not have the knowledge base we do now but they used it well.

 

Heck, some of the idiots who do not understand how the Govt is supposed to function are running it now.

 

So comparatively, to people now as a gneral rule, Arthur is a Genious.

 

Except for Gamers-honest opinion, games like this and the Assassin's Creed series tend to give more honest History than anything people get in school now so Gamers tend to be several steps up from Average.

I'm horrified that you have Tommy right at the bottom of your list. The guy basically took over Vice City and built up his own empire without help. That's not what a dumb arse does.

 

Anyway I haven't encountered anything about Arthur that makes me think he's dumb.

My natural instinct is to interpret descending order from best to worst (or in this case smartest to dumbest), but I just need to learn how to read,
