Tracking other players in online

Recommended Posts

I think this should be in and here’s an idea how it could work.

Only players who are wanted can be tracked specifically. Others can be tracked normalt if you are within range to track their horse.

To track someone you select them as a target from the list of wanted players and get a clue where they were last seen. Not the precise location though. You can then go there to the nearest town or the area and ask NPC’s to get a new clue, a more precise one. The precision of the clue should depend on how recognizable the player was like in single player taking into account clothing and mask. Then you can go search that area like when you track legendary animals and start tracking. Water makes it more difficult to track as water will hide the track. If you lose the track, you can ask NPCs again for new clues. There should be a time limit on it, so at some point if you haven’t found the person he has escaped and is removed from the list of trackable players.

With this system there should be no player blips on the mini map except players within range flashing up as a dot, when they fire a noisy weapon. It should just show the noise and not the player, so if the player moves the blip does not.

That is very complex and complicated to the point where I can’t see too many people spending all their time and resources tracking someone who has a very high chance of espcaping and being removed from the tracking list. Maybe a better and simpler option would be to be able to purchase a dog in town. The tracking dog would be able to track animals we are hunting and other players with bounties.

Different breeds of dogs would provide different tracking abilities:

- Some dogs would be able close in to the target’s estimated location faster then other dogs.

- Some dogs would be able to pinpoint the exact location of the target, but at a slower speed.

- Some dogs could attack the target on sight.

- Some dogs could bark on sight.

There are so many dog breeds in this game, and they could eventually add more. I think they should give the dogs more purpose and implementing them online in this way would be a good start.

Like horses, dogs could have upgradable levels where they unlock new abilities. They could even have permadeath. If they die they are gone. We could name our dogs, we could buy them custom collars. We would need to keep dog food, etc with us during our travels.

Dogs could work, but I do not want tracking to be a sure thing. There should be 50/50 chance of capture/escape for two players of similar skill.

Maybe there would/could be things the target could do to throw the dog off their trail? Like going through water?

Maybe the dog would whine and whimper when they lose the trail? Maybe the bounty hunter player would need to guess which direction the target went and instruct the dog to sniff around those areas in an attempt to pick up the trail again? It would be a team effort between bounty hunters and their dogs.

Don’t forget that dogs can be killed too. If the target kills the dog then they have an open window to escape untracked. <<<This is where it’s a good idea to team up with other bounty hunters who also have dogs. If a dog gets killed while tracking, there just might be another dog on the trail.

lol dogs would be following your scent, not the direction of foot print.

Keep in mind that their is scent eliminator in this game that could prevent dogs from tracking you. That is another cool feature/element to add to the whole dog tracking system. Tracking would be like a chess match. AWESOME.
