Safe Zones? Yes or No?

Recommended Posts

djb204

Locations like Towns and Saloons will most like turn into a war zone every single time we run into other players. That is the unfortunate truth, unless......

Rockstar disables PvP in these areas. Towns are suppose to be places where we can visit stables, doctors, saloons, stores, etc. Unless Rockstar does disables PvP in town, Red Dead Online will become grief city.

This is where Dueling comes into play. What if the only way we can PvP in towns is by challenging and accepting duels against other players. Both gun fighters meet in the street with all other players and NPC townsfolk watching from the sidelines. This type of system would keep towns from becoming 24hr online war zones and allow them to be used as there intended (with the occasional duel).

I like the idea, because I dislike the implementation of Passive Mode, yet there still needs to be a way for players to opt out of PvP.

Robbing stores and killing NPC townsfolk should still be an option, it would just be the PvP aspect that would be affected. I’d still want to mess around in towns with friends.

NOTE: Players with a bounty wouldn’t qualify for the town’s PvP restrictions. It’s open season on wanted players 24/7 anywhere anytime.

Those wanted players would need to be able to shoot as well making safe zones very limited.  Would prevent someone from going from friendly to hostile in town but wouldn’t prevent wanted folks from locking down a town.

Wanted players wouldn’t be able to shoot other players due to the PvP restrictions in town preventing PvP damage, so the wanted players could shoot up the town all they want, all that would do is bring the NPC lawmen down on them.

If it was just NPCs that would work, but you wouldn’t be able to have towns safe zones and 24HR open season on wanted folks for other players simultaneously

Wanted players would be avoiding towns anyways

Hard No. The PvP element is one of the main differences between single and multiplayer, and a shootout in a dusty old town is part of the Western experience. Excluding EVERY town and city from PvP is ludicrous. At most, maybe open building interiors could disallow weapons but even that feels lame.

If R* learned anything from GTAO I hope they implement separate PvE and PvP sessions for the people who prefer one or the other because trying to have it both ways with things like passive mode or this idea just makes the game worse overall.

Safe zones wouldn’t exist for wanted players though. When you have a bounty you forfeit you safe zone privileges. Safe zones would only work for players without a bounty. All other players are fair game because they are wanted. We can’t have wanted players trying to hide in safe zones because they are wanted. So no safe zones for them.

Like I said in the OP, if towns are open to gun fights, that is what you are going to see EVERY TIME, you run into another player in town. It sucks but that is just how players are. Picture it....

You ride into town hoping to visit the doctor, stables, saloon, general store, etc, and then boom.... another player opens up on you and all ships go on lock down. You try the next town and boom... it happens again.

I'm still hoping for proper PvE lobbies, never mind safe spaces.

PvE only sessions would be lacking some features though, like dueling, land grab, and what ever open world PvP events Rockstar adds, but to each their own.

I believe private sessions will be available. You can invite friends to your world. (no random grievances)

I remember “Friendly Free Roam” from RDR1. It was PvE only. In GTA Online the combined both types of sessions via “passive mode”.

That won't be necessary because we will have a PvE session type.

No safe zones. This is the Wild West. I always expect to get into a shootout or fight with someone as soon as I enter a town or building.

Interesting indeed but does this for sure mean separate PvE sessions, or something else? "Seamless PvE" isn't very clear.

It's a session type. It comes right after PARAM_netScPrivateSession which is another session type we already know about.

Yes, this mean a "Seamless PvE" session which should be PvE only otherwise what's the point of making it a session type ?

I would still expect it to include PvP for those who choose to flag themselves in some way.

I don’t know what western books, movies, or shows you’ve read/watched, but that isn’t a Wild West experience, that is a war game.

The term “Seamless PVE” doesn’t meant no PvP. By Seamless PvE they mean a smooth PvE experience. The definition of “Seamless” means smooth. Nowhere does it indicate a PvE only session. This is all just speculation.

After looking at it again, "Seamless" is just the codename for freeroam.

You can find this stuff yourself, you don't need "Rockstar INTEL", just download the cache for the Companion App and check out "lib".

There are 4 modes of sessions. On Call, Seamless (Freemode), Private and Competitive.

nice.

On Call is the odd one.

I guess that is like "looking for group".

I'm really looking forward to RDO.

As anyone that knows me from the other side. Cannot agree more.

If like GTAO I have to be 'switched on' all the time, with content locked behind all that cheating, grief, exploiting, and bitter messages. Game offers much PvE, let us play it in peace, lol. If not, then it's just not a game for me, air play. But sell it as it means to go on. Not twice only to change the game entirely. There's more than enough room for both playstyles to truly thrive. If one side is all about the chaos and combat, enjoy it. If the other is a 'sim dress up game' So? Choose and enjoy your gaming without worrying about the other players choices.

Game won't even get off the ground for me. Best case, I MTU the whole f*cking lot and remove everyone altogether and have half the game online. GTA:O just kept on selling with this method growing rapidly over the past 2 years, and PvE DLC there outsold the 'public only' businesses. I have hopes, but not committing yet. (I'll join and try immediately, but it'll not last more than the day if GTA:O' bullsh*t is present at launch).

Zero intentions of a repeat in this regards. But I'm happy to return to story mode gaming too. Plan B is in place, lol. f*ck that!

* But having read the thread since, seems they might just have learned to embrace more gamers. Just curious about crap like 'do X resupplies/sales in public to get X discount/unlocked' (Locked content basically). Well see.

No...but it needs a heavy Deputy/Sheriff/Marshall presence in towns, you wanna be an asshole? Prepare to get given another asshole. And shooting players in towns should give you a Bounty that other players can collect. Wanna act like a predator? Then become the prey.

Disable weapons? No.

If "On Call" is anything like GTAO's "On Call" (via Quick Jobs), let's just pray that it actually works in RDR2, and connects you with what you asked to be "On Call" for in the first place...

In any case, I'm hoping that PvE translates to teaming up peacefully with other players to fight in-game NPCs. I've got a score to settle with them-thar creepy Butcher (Valley?) folks.

Nah, can't think of any scenario with safe zones. As long as you got a gun, you should be able to whip it out whenever.

Maybe in your safehouse if there are any, guns shouldn't be able to be fired.

I think your camp should be a safe zone, but that other players should be able to attack your camp if they find it, which would be a team deathmatch in the area where your camp is. If you lose, the camp is removed and must be put elsewhere.

Other players can Enter your camp, but no guns allowed. This could create a safe spot for trading, negotiation etc.
