I like how Armadillo is the ghost town this time around

Can't explore the Tumbleweed mansion :(

When I got to McFarlane's ranch I felt turned around, is the big house on the other side of the property?

The draw distance we have now makes the map feel way smaller then it did. Also, is the map smaller now? Where is the spot Dutch's camp is located in RDR1?

New Austin looks fantastic, however there are hardly any NPCs or animals.

The dust storms that kick up around Armadillo & Tumbleweed look awesome & you've gotta mention the young Herbert Moon!

new austin seems so empty and boring, even though its probably even "fuller" than in rdr1, but the sunsets are just not the same anymore. i remember planning all my trips to the sunsets and dawns accordingly, back in rdr1

Bonnie's house is in the same place. I tried to get in just for the sake of it.

MacFarlane ranch, the Tumbleweed Mansion aren't accessible. Fort Mercer is a gang hideout, but interiors are inaccessible. Thieves Landing is an abandoned farm and a gang hideout, Twin Rocks is still a gang hideout. Ridgewood Farm isn't accessible, Plainview is underdeveloped, having just two huts. Rathskeller Fork acts as private property, and you will be asked to leave. Gaptooth Ridge's mine is partially accessible, but the majority is caved in. (Interestingly, it has an entire map on the radar, just not accessible, possibly for  Online).

Armadillo Spoilers

Armadillo is under a cholera plague, the only seemingly immune people are The Sheriff, The Bartender, the Town Crier and Herbert Mooooon, just outside of town are a bunch of burning graves, as well as there being a dude at Coot's Chapel explaining the burning.

Tumbleweed Spoilers

Tumbleweed is slowly dying, under attack from a gang, and the fact railroads don't reach there. The mansion is abandoned, nobody owns it, the Sheriff is having a tough time with the local gangs. You can do some bounties to help him, though there's only a couple before they stop.

There's a chinese hat you can find and keep, a dead chinese guy is at a camp just outside that canyon you got into with the Armadillo sheriff in RDR

Very interesting find as I've yet to actually see ANYBODY report on that in hidden hats/weapons videos. First hidden thing I found all on my own!

I wanted to see how that "conversation" played out. Plus, I'm not too triggerhappy as everything is always my fault.

Felt a little pang of regret when I saw my honor go "-1". From there on out I gunned down every one of them I met.

A like that New Austin is there to explore, but it kinda feels tacked on. I'm pretty sure Rockstar really just wanted a new world but realised fans wouldn't take too kindly to the lack of old world and now it's a little "Fine, have it your way". Still though, I stood on that ridge that overlooks Armadillo on my first approach and I had a little nostalgasm.

Haven't spent alot of time there yet though, so it might get better. Did like how they handled the possible MacFarlane continuity problem. Ofcourse John couldn't meet them already, I knew that, but I still had my hopes up.

Well the leaked map from 2016 didn't include New Austin, so it certainly appears that way.

I was kinda disappointed when I got to Thieves Landing and saw it was just a hideout for bandits. I was really looking forward to playing some Liars Dice in the saloon there.

My guess is they're testing the waters for a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption (Red Dead Remastered?) or are simply trying to expand the number of locations players will participate in the Online mode.

I liked the guy standing on the side porch of the MacFarlane house with a broom. He goes “looking for someone?”...that was a nice touch

Is it? I've been there twice and didn't find any gang presence. Just two normal guys sitting by the fire in the night. They seem more like hunters of wildlife.

First time I was heading north past Tumbleweed to Rathskeller Fork during the night, a small shack by the side of the road suddenly caught on fire and collapsed, to which my horse was spooked. The whole Desert state feels creepier this time with no constructive human activity, but instead outlaws on the run and mostly Del Lobos acting as highwaymen. The dust storms provide a great scenery, but they indeed block visibility and make the desert a scarier place to wander around. I wonder if there was a mention of the Armadillo cholera outbreak during Redemption events in 1911.

On the weather, I like how it barely rains in New Austin and most of the time the sky is blue with no cloud cover, reflecting the state's hot desert climate. The night sky is the clearest in this case and the nebula can be seen in full detail

  • Passed through Tall Trees, very beautiful area, got attacked by some maniacs with bows and guns on foot and on horses coming out of nowhere, an innocent rider in front of me collide with one of them, horses fall on the ground, I ride away as fast as I can, I catch up with another rider who was also fleeing away, in the mean time I hear a bear or something, this is it, f*cking creepshow. OK f*ck it I ride off the dirt path and go through the woods, dismount my horse,I've waited for them and killed these cocksuckers. Anyways, like I said the area is very beautiful, can't wait to go there camping.
  • Passed through MacFarlane's Ranch at night, very calm, some buildings are not built yet, pretty much a classic ranch, no shop, no train station; saw a few fellers on their porches.
  • On my way to Armadillo, I got attacked by some fellers, almost killed them all but the last one killed me.
  • I arrive in Armadillo, I hear gunshot so I dismount my horse and tell him to stay where he is, I approach cautiously then I see some fellers in front of the sheriff office, dressed with similar clothes as the one who attacked me so I take my shotgun and start to kill these cocksuckers. See the sheriff and he basically says "f*ck it, let's get the f*ck out of here"; suits yourself, I'm going into the office and take what I find. The whole town is under a cholera plague, love the vibes and the atmosphere, really lawless and chaotic, people here and there sick and f*cked up. So I'm walking down the street, I enter the saloon and one of the guy at the bar just run the f*ck away through the exit door like a rat, I'm "what the hell was that?", the bartender who looks like he lived in the f*cking trenches the past few weeks says something among the lines "we are not used to see new fellers here", right so I take a beer and get out. The saloon is all f*cked up by the way, love it.
  • I drink slowly and appreciate my beer under this f*cking heat.
  • "Let's check out the train station" ok so I walk in, "damn am I late to the party?" people sleeping on the benches and on the floor as if it was a god damn camp "Don't mind me fellers, my bad" so I get out and let these poor souls sleeping.
  • I mount my horse and get on my way to Tumbleweed.
  • See three riders coming in front of me arriving pretty fast, I'm being careful, slowing down and moving myself to the side, they were saying something like going to the saloon taking off their boots and drinking. As they passed by me, one of them basically yell at me to get out of their way, I look back and they also scream at one of the rider behind me who was going in the opposite direction.
  • This lawless desert is gorgeous and f*cking well done, I can feel the danger, I'm not safe, getting Mad Max f*cking wasteland vibes, love it.
  • Arriving in Tumbleweed, the sheriff arguing with a gang member he arrested, sheriff is on fire, the situation escalate, he shoot him cold in the open in front of everyone, ok don't mind me I just want to get a room and sleep.
  • Tie my horse and go to the saloon, I enter, everybody stop talking and stare at me, ok I just sh*t my pants while on my way to the bar. I buy a beer and get out, looking for an hotel, can't find one so I go to the gunsmith and I see he have rooms, sweet I take one and go to sleep.

10/10 would visit New Austin again.

Seriously tho, this is really good that New Austin is available..Tall Trees is gorgeous and has unique trees and vegetation and the desert is very well done, I didn't experienced sand storm yet and I can't wait. I love the atmosphere and the vibes I get, it really is the wild west, dangerous and lawless and you can feel it.

Just to be clear, I spend a few hours there and this is not lifeless! there is an ecosystem (some of the animals are unique) as in the new map, riders and stagecoach can be seen roaming the land, people camping and random events, this is working just like the new map.

Tall trees is still my favorite forest. I just love it. Everything about it. The starry sky and early morning gets me every single time but you are right with the snow that would have been good too. It's odd how we can't go up to the top of Nekoti Rock. God knows why. But hey we have bigger better mountains to hike up. :)

the Armadillo bank has an interior, though there doesn't seem to be any way to get inside.

Might be for MP?

Just riding through New Austin now. Holy sh*t, Armadillo is depressing as hell. It's a miracle they managed to clean that town up in just a few years.

It definitely seems to me like it was just added for fan service. A nice job at recreating it, but it's clearly just been reserved for Online. I do like how lawless it feels however.

lol, try it, it could be fun if there is no law around anymore, I'm not sure if he have deputies with him, don't remember. One could take over Tumbleweed.

He's got at least one deputy, but he ain't got nuthin' I can't handle.

Perhaps I'll give it a go in a seperate save sometime. Oddly, in games I prefer being the good guy.
