This stuff about Trelawney and the Stange Man (totally spurious - the latter being unambiguously a supernatural entity that bullets pass through and has a totally different demeanour, only sharing taste in clothes and facial hair that were basically smart business dress for the era) is dragging this off topic.

Karen is the gang member with the biggest question mark over what happens to her.

What triggers this reported letter from Tilly? I’ve found Tilly in Saint Denis after the story, but not had any such letter.

The letter from Tilly appears on the dinner table in Beachers Hope after a while. I found it completely by accident.

About Trelawny... Never understood why people think that Trelawny could be the strange man (or has a connection to him). Just because of his looks? Then many strange men run around in Saint Denis fe. ! This outfit (in combination with that moustache) was nothing special back then. I see Trelawny more as a younger version of West Dickens (who wears almost the same outfit and the same moustache btw) , just with more class.

A lot of people hopelessly want connections to old games.  I had an argument with somebody who was "1000% convinced" some random npc in one of the gameplay trailers was Landon Ricketts.  It's a phenomenon I don't understand, yet I'm sure theres an explination for.

I think I may have found Karen in the Bastille saloon in St. Denis. A woman sitting just to the right of the bar, on a sofa in the corner. When I entered she asked "What does a girl have to do to get a drink round here?!" She then goes on about how boring her life is now and how exciting it used to be before everyone went off and settled down. You can hear her talking no matter where you go in the saloon. I talked to her and got similar responses to the ones I received interacting with Karen later in the game. Her build and her voice are similar to Karen's. I think this might be Karen but I'm not sure. But, what better place to find a drunk than in a saloon.

This whole theory is dumb. It's based on nothing more than them looking somewhat alike in how they style themselves, and even if it was true it would add nothing to the game.

I wouldn't say it's 'dumb' at all.  It's totally plausible, however, highly unlikely in my opinion.  Trelawney is a bit of an enigma, disappears most of the time (hardly ever at the camps), and looks ALOT like the Strange Man.  This is why the theory is absolutely plausible.

Anyhow, I do agree with your sentiment regarding Trelawney and the Strange Man - not the same entities (I didn't say person, cause the Strange Man is not a person, nor from this world).

Great discussion none-the-less.  I'm really baffled by the myriads of mysteries in this game...I just can't put it down and I want to, but I can't - it's that good imo.  I think my ARMA 3 platoon have given up on me for now.

Good day!

Has any new info been dug up about this? I mean we know her drinking probably led to her death, but how exactly? The idea that while inebriated, she was kidnapped and killed by the Murfree Brood, is horrific but unfortunately plausible. Alternatively, I wonder if she just died from acute alcohol poisoning- perhaps intentionally. Obviously it doesn’t matter either way but it’s definitely a loose end.

Nothing new as far as I know. Personally I just think she died from all her drinking and thats that. If I remember right she has some borderline suicidal lines in chapter 6 when you talk to her, so feels like she didnt really care if she survived or not

Throughout the game, she was drinking more and more, and as you said she had those lines in Chapter 6. I suppose from a storytelling point of view, it would be most fitting that she finally just poured alcohol down her throat until she died.

Sneaky Queeky

It all makes sense she drank herself to death, but I wonder where she ran off too at first? Did she and Marybeth go together? Where would it have been most safe for her (them)?

Uncle never mentions her, didn't he leave at the same time? Who knows! Maybe she just wondered off alone.

I went back to the mission "Our Best Selves" now where Dutch says Uncle left, but he actually doesnt mention Karen

Pearson left.. old Uncle.. the traitors. Both gone at dawn. They said to young Tilly they were running to save themselves. I think Mary-Beth left aswell

They do all disappear between "My Last Boy" and "Our Best Selves", so I think its implied she also left then and Dutch doesnt mention it or doesnt know about it. Her last appearance in a cutscene is during "A Rage Unleashed" when Rains Fall shows up at camp and shes holding a shotgun in the background, but she has no lines

Its actually a little odd how Tilly doesnt leave then too since she was so close to especially Mary-Beth and Karen. She obviously appears in the final mission so maybe Rockstar just needed another person to help Jack escape.

A good summary of it!

It's weird it's Tilly that helps Jack and Abigail escape for me;  in my head, it makes a lot more sense that it's Uncle who stays to the very end, and the one good thing the lazy old sod does is help save Abigail and Jack, and that's why he ends up with John and Abigail in RDR 1, instead of John just randomly bumping into him in Blackwater (Even though that's a funny scene.)

One reason I can think of Tilly staying to the end is she actually has a closer relationship with Susan than the other girls. I noticed in Beaver Hollow recently Susan really insults Mary Beth for doing her make-up, while she comforts Tilly in another interaction later in camp. Also there's the mission where she goes after the Foreman gang.

There is a deleted dialogue from chapter 6 that address that issue:

Susan Grimshaw : Well... she's gone.
Tilly Jackson : What do you mean she's gone?
Susan Grimshaw : She's gone! Stormed off last night.
Tilly Jackson : Mary-Beth, do you hear this? Karen's gone!
Mary-Beth Gaskill : Gone where?
Susan Grimshaw : I don't know, just gone! She... well, you all saw she hasn't been herself recently. She told me to go to hell and just... walked off.
Tilly Jackson : I just can't believe it... Karen...
Mary-Beth Gaskill : Neither can I...
Susan Grimshaw : Well... yes... sorry girls.
Arthur Morgan : So you don't think Karen will be back?
Susan Grimshaw : Well it sure didn't sound that way.
Arthur Morgan : Dropping like flies...

I think you can hear it in this video but I'm not sure

Officially, Karen's last piece of dialogue is her confronting Micah about Cleet and Joe.

So this at least confirms how she left. If she just walked off without her things then I suppose she couldn’t have drank herself to death, at least not right away.

Did she have her own horse?

Her horse is called "Old Belle". She only uses it one time and its during the Valentine robbery 2ed1d6f2efbcab17bc92ff613cb2dce4.png

Shes the only woman in the gang to have her own horse apart from Sadie who has "Bob"

So she probably rode off. She would’ve been vulnerable to a Murfree abduction, but I feel like she probably just stumbled into Annesburg and drank herself to death or something. Again, that’s more narratively fitting seeing how she was drinking more and more as the story progressed.
