GTA:SA would completely randomly start crashing

Recommended Posts

checkindza

Hi, I modded my GTA and I can't find any reason why the hell the game is crashing. All the mods are well know and some of them I actually used for a long time and they never caused problems.

Modlist :

ModLoader (Tried without it, same thing happened)

Silent's ASI Loader (doubt it's it, tried different ASI Loader same thing happened)

SilentPatch (Doubt it's that, tried without it same thing)

SkyGFX (Doubt it's that, tried without it same thing)

ReShade (Doubt it's that, tried without it same thing)

GTA IV Roads by .DEATHWISH. (Doubt it's that causing it, even without roads same thing happened)

Sound Pack by The FlashTeam (Doubt it's that, I used it for a long time and I tried to use a different one same thing happening)

Just a random skinpack (I doubt that's causing it, tried to play the game without modloader, same thing happened)

Searchlight.asi (Doubt it's that, tried without it same thing)

StreamMemFix (Doubt it's that, I used it for a long time and I tried to use a different one same thing happening)

Shadows Settings Extender (Tried to play without it, still same thing)

CLEO 4 (Tried to play without it, still same thing)

Awesome .IFP mod (Doubt it's that, I used it for a long time and I tried to use a different one same thing happening)

Project 2DFX (Doubt it's that, tried without it same thing)

that's most of them, there are a few more mods but they're installed on modloader and as I said, I tried without modloader and same thing happened

I'm playing SA:MP you know, just driving around and the game would crash and then I cannot connect anymore, trying on a different server no problem. Some times passes, can connect no problem.

Crash report from Modloader

And even just GTA:SA same thing would happen with no reason, and that's what's worst about it. It's just completely random and I can't find why.

  • Tried reinstalling the game like ten times already and deleting gta_sa.set file.
  • UAC is already disabled.
  • Can't try it running it in Windows 98/ME mode, because SA:MP just wouldn't work with it. Same thing with Windows XP (SP2 and SP3) and Windows 7 just doesn't start at all.
  • Tried running it without any background apps, same thing.
  • Adding gta_sa.exe to DEP.

Even after Windows reinstallation same thing happens, the only reason I can think of is might because of my HDD being installed as secondary with a chinese adapter? But like I played League of Legends from it and some other games with no problems.

Hey there! your crash log says that the reason of the problem could be at least two: a game limit reached, or a problem with (a) vehicle(s) but I could also doubt about SAMP since most of the modifications are meant for single player only. Another option is a mess up with the mods you mentioned.

I suggest you to first remove the stream memory fix, it's useless once you have Silent Patch, same thing with Silent's ASI Loader, CLEO comes with it too. Second step is to install some mandatory mods like Open Limit Adjuster & FM's Limit Adjuster. When using Modloader remember to place the mods inside a subfolder instead of directly inside the Modloader's folder. Just to be sure, also use this .exe.

Well, I used most of the modifications before on SA:MP and they never caused me problems. And as I said, I tried reinstalling the game so that means I reinstalled the mods too so I doubt they're messed up, unless maybe some of them got corrupted during download but like mods don't seem buggy or something like that.

I don't know about stream memory fix, even with SilentPatch without stream memory fix objects glitching and etc. start happening if I install like a road textures mod. But even when I tried without stream memory fix, it still didn't fix the crashes. I know that CLEO comes with ASI Loader but I always uncheck it when installing CLEO. I don't think so using those mandatory mods will help, like Project 2DFX already comes with Open Limit Adjuster and the game still crashes. And yes, every mod has a subfolder in modloader and I'll try that .exe.

EDIT : Game won't even launch with that .exe, I'm on Windows 10 Home x64 if it matters.

That's weird, the game must launch with that exe, it's the most used one, even required for many of the mods you use. There's something else missing or something wrong, it's hard to deduce or solve if we see all of the things you did trying to fix the game.

So it means there's no fix for it? :(

There's always a fix, let's start with the basics: where did you get that GTA SA? or which version is it? is it from Steam? Retail? pirated?

The best we can do is to first know that, then we can start trying a few things.

Well, yes pirated. But that's the same that much of the people I know use and they have no problems modding and I used the same before on older computer and had no problem modding.

That's an interesting point. There's a big chance that the problem is related with a missing component like DirectX (v9) or another similar. In Win10, GTA SA requires an extension called DirectPlay which is used for old games, install it if you don't have it.

I have DirectPlay and DirectX 9 installed.

Already, now let's focus on the game, can you post a pic showing a clean copy of your GTA SA directory?

In any case, I think the best is to re-download it and forget about the current one. Since the forums doesn't support piracy I can't directly give you the download link but if you go here, you can easily find it.

I already tried downloading a different one, sorry that I didn't mention it.

Let's work with it then; using your clean directory, start by installing the mandatory mods:

Silent Patch, FM's Limit Adjuster, Open Limit Adjuster, CLEO, Hoodlum Launcher, Mixsets (optional) & Modloader (optional).

Install all of them and test your game. Remember to download them from the links I'm providing you, it doesn't matter if you already have them, it's always good to get them again in case of any corrupted, outdated or damaged files.

Actually, found the reason why my modded game wouldn't work with Hoodlum .exe, it was actually because of ReShade but even without ReShade and with hoodlum .exe it still crashes. Going to try now with a clean game.

EDIT : A clean game with those mods seems to work fine.

Great! now you have to make a copy of that modded directory in order to have a ready-to-play backed up game.

So, you can know start adding the mods you want, just remember to use Modloader to avoid the replacement of some files and if you have any other problem or issue just post it here, don't forget to include the crash log ;)

Well, I have an issue that ReShade doesn't want to work with that .exe. I tried applying 4GB Patch to it but it still doesn't help, logs don't show anything. The game just won't open.

EDIT : I tried putting the d3d9.dll of ReShade in the Modloader folder on the new GTA (only CLEO, both Limit Adjusters, Hoodlum .exe, ReShade, ModLoader, SilentPatch are installed) and that's all I get in the logs

I think all the problems appear just because of stupid Windows 10... Never had problems like this on Windows 7... Now like even randomly ASI Loader would stop working or just wouldn't load all the mods and no, that's not the problem with ASI Loader. A game reinstall and readding it to DEP helps but I HATE IT DOING IT EVERY TIME... Microsoft, why do you have to do this?

Try using this, it should solve the problems with Reshade but also with any other mod that Windows block.

Reshade works fine with Win10, I frequently use it in my heavily modded directory.

ReShade worked fine on the .exe I was using but with Hoodlum it's different story. Atleast from what I can see in the Task Manager, game just opens and closes with ReShade installed. Thanks for this mod by the way, it solved the problem with ASI Loader.

Which Reshade version are you using? could be good to try with the latest version available.

Hmmm... I think it could be a problem with some missing file(s) required by Reshade. Try installing this and then test the game.

I don't think so it's about missing files because as I said, it worked fine with the original .exe. I tried installing that DirectX you gave me and it still gives same result.

EDIT : And noDEP.asi doesn't help sadly. Just wanted to rename my GTA:SA folder, maybe I thought that would help and again asi loader won't work properly.

Actually, the fix to this problem was a lot easier :D Open Limit Adjuster helped here, all I needed to do was to change vehicle limit to 150 in limit adjuster .ini file. Thanks @Mysterdogg. I found this fix here.

Good to know that! I was actually thinking about that too but I wasn't sure if I had already suggested you try it. Well, good thing is that it's solved.
