Emostential
Hello, Last year I brought a German version of GTA III at a GameStop in Frankfurt. The box is the standard German version as you would expect. It looks different from the UK version and doesn’t have Grand Theft Auto written on it. What I’m unsure about is the disk. It has an “18” certificate on it as opposed to the USK certificate which is used in Germany and features on the game box itself. It is also not censored, which is apparently a known feature of the German version of the game. I’m just not sure if this was normal for the original run or if this isn’t the original disc. The serial number of the box is SLES 50330 and the disc is SLES-50330#. I hope someone can clear this up for me. Thank you.

psxdriverplayer
Old thread, but for those wondering about the PS2 PAL releases of GTA III that somehow end up over here like I did: - There is technically no (separate) German or French censored versions in PS2, only the one released in Australia is actually different. The same exact version (product ID SLES-50330) was released everywhere in Europe, so it doesn't matter where you get it from, it's the exact same regardless, thus, if your language is set to German and French, it censors itself and reverses it if you change it to English for examples. Only packaging language differs, the disc data is the exact same everywhere. - Discs not having "#" in the product code area are the original v1.40, discs having the "#" sign are the later v1.60. (<- This is the only difference in PAL (Europe) region, they're either v1.40 or v1.60, but all of them have the same censoring if certain languages are selected. Save files not compatible between these two revisions.) Australian disc is technically a different PAL region game as it has a different product code, SLES-50793 (internally v1.00). - For example, I've bought multiple copies from Finland, some copies have Finnish packaging, some have UK packaging. The discs have mostly been v1.60, only one has been v1.40, but they all get censored when I select German and French, because the disc data is not any different from those sold in Germany or France, they can select English and have no censoring at all. To summarize: - There's only 2 PAL versions, European version (with 2 sub-versions) and Australian version (probably applies to PC as well, where I've heard there's multiple languages everywhere as well, but your Windows language determines censoring) Edited December 7, 2021 by psxdriverplayer Summary and example Stahli 1 -We Japanese give life no importance. -Master -Then why did you ask for help when you were drowning, eh? -Sonny PlayStation™ Licensed by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Stahli
@psxdriverplayer Your summary confuses me. In the first part of your text I understood that there are two PAL versions for Europe. 1.40 and 1.60. And then there is an Australian PAL version. So there are 3 PAL Releases Europa PAL 1.40 Europa PAL 1.60 Australian PAL ?? or do you mean it like that Europa PAL 1.60 Australien PAL 1.
psxdriverplayer
Just now, Stahli said: @psxdriverplayer Your summary confuses me. So there are 3 PAL Releases Europa PAL 1.40 Europa PAL 1.60 Australian PAL ?? or do you mean it like that Europa PAL 1.60 Australien PAL 1.40 Australia is not Europe. Let's try to put it like this. I mean that there's the following PAL releases: Europe - SLES-50330 (all discs lacking # sign) - PAL v1.40 (This is in all of Europe) Europe - SLES-50330 (# icon discs + Platinum discs) - PAL v1.60 (This is also in all of Europe) Australia - SLES-50793 - PAL v1.00 (This is only in Australia, different from the European versions - also all copies of that product code are the same as far as I'm aware) So, there is 2 versions, but the other version (European) has 2 sub-versions. Stahli
Thanks for the quick and detailed answer. Now I know how you meant that in your first post. Then it is as I initially thought. I know Australia is not Europe. I misunderstood the context in your first post, that was my problem.
