Big cities don't feel big

Recommended Posts

Sentinel Driver

Big cities are functionally the same in this game as the smaller towns like for example every gunsmith has the same inventory, no matter if it's in Valentine or St Denis

the bigger cities just look bigger, but in reality it's the same shops spread around a wider area

This breaks immersion and the sense of progress

Why is it that r* chose to do this?

Well it's as big as it gets in 1899. You want a Liberty City?

And as for shops, Saint Denis has fancier Outfits. I'm sure if they had spread the guns throughout the map people would moan that they have to travel across just to buy a gun. Every city has unique interiors and that alone is incredible.

Because people complain when they don't.  The map is huge, it would be fairly annoying to have to go to one specific city to get better guns.

Also, St Denis has amenities that places like Valentine don't.  In fact Strawberry has at least one thing Valentine doesn't (the clothes shop).  So that's the benefit of bigger cities: access to a wider array of vendors.

St Denis is incredible! what made me laugh is they describe blackwater as a city in this game

Big cities did not take off, until the beginning of the 20th century? New York was the only big city at the time, but its not on the map?

Saint Denis is fantastic.

Reminds me of the cities from AC games but this one is just big enough to be impressive but small enough to bit all blur into one big mess as you dart across it.

Rockstar chose to do this so players would have something to bitch about.

That is where Rockstar could have used more weapon variety or wagon shops etc. It is hard to have different weapons in different city when you have so few of them.  For example,  Derringer would be great for special item in St. Dennis as well as something like Le Mat. Also it would be nice if we could buy different wagons and use them instead of horses if we like to.

Overall,  I was expecting little more interiors in largest city in the game. Yeah, we have that photo studio and some shows but imo they should let us access at least one more high end restaurant /bar , church and maybe small cute apartment that has a nice square view and balcony.

I'm not trolling or anything,  but i would suggest looking into American history, during this time period, in the southwest and southeast. I'd say they are pretty accurate.

And here I am feeling greedy just for wanting Annesburg to have a saloon of its own.

Give it a rest with the whole breaking immersion. Such an overused term that often doesn't apply to the topic like now. Saint Denis is a pretty cool place except for the fact that there are so many thieves.

It’s 1899, widespread urban sprawl wasn’t a thing in most cities yet. The atmosphere in St Denis is incredible that’s for sure, and it has a lot of neat things other towns don’t have, such as a designated Tailors and Barbers. Not to mention how huge the map is as a whole, St. Denis has a lot crammed into it.

only thing id complain about is the guns, other than that the cities/towns are done right. they all feel different, st denis vibes are amazing

I like how each district treats you differently. I was walking along the dock late in the evening (I was looking for a fist fight to be honest) and a group of dock workers started mocking my top hat, asking why a dandy was walking around that area.

There is a clothes shop in Strawberry? I thought all clothes were bought from the general store?

Yeah I was mistaken about that. I didn't use the catalogue in Valentine and then did use it in Strawberry... thought the clothes were unique to some shops. Nonetheless, St Denis does have stuff not in the smaller cities, like the trapper.

Are there better clothes in Saint Denis?

Havent gotten that far yet, but I know there are at least different outfits in Strawberry and Valentine, so I assume that's true of St. Denis and other general stores too.

You can buy fancier Waistcoats, Bowler/Top/Gentlemen Hats, actual shoes instead of boots and ties. You might be able to buy actual suit jackets as well.
