Take a little of my money, maybe...don't force me to lose 3 perfect pelts and my perfect carcass from my horse. Not to mention the 8 assholes I mowed down before the last one cheap shots me only for it all to just disappear upon my respawn and all my efforts rendered an utter and complete waste of everything!

Sorry, but that's about as bullsh*t as it gets. Period.

I feel like something is missing, couldn't pin point it at first now I understand, the world feels empty like Skyrim Vanilla.

Example, Skyrim was talked about & paraded (like RDR2) by Bethesda. Dynamic this, intergrated that.. But when you played it while graphically looked good the World felt empty.

I'm getting the Same vibes from RDR2. Example, when Arthur is on a Horse in the fields or generally from most of time of traversing, the lack of Wildlife is there.

In RDR1 You came across a random bunny running into the scrub you could choose to skin or it looked ambient as you road through, flutter of birds, random deer. In the RDR2 Leaked Gameplay it just seems dead, lifeless. The Game is visually stunning & the animations are on point, the atmosphere is just not there.

Can't see any flock of birds, random critters or indication there's "life" like How in RDR1 you could.  Just not feeling it anymore, can't feel it.

Leslie Benzies was to Rockstar what RARE was to Nintendo;  The essence. Now he is gone so is the atmosphere & the void is showing.

Shouldn't of got rid of Leslie Benzies R*. A house divided cannot stand & getting rid of Benzies is like shooting yourself in the Foot, or like destroying the foundation & then wondering why the house is falling.

To me that is perfect! Fianlly reason to actually try and prevent dying! Sorry, but to me this sounds wonderful! Losing more than just cash is great. What's the point of having the option to die if you wouldn't lose a thing? There's always a point in gta or rdr where you'd reach too much cash or whatnot and not having any reason to complete objectives to get more money.

Good for you man. This is the B&M. Nobody cares what you find "perfect" or "wonderful". Least of all, me.

I've gathered myself since and have decided the game only gets to f*ck me once in that respect. Auto save is turned off and a manual save is created before approaching any enemy camp. 🤗

I know this is your opinion but it's weird that you are complaining about Arthur being an asshole when you knew he was a member of an outlaw gang. Its like watching The Sopranos or Breaking Bad and complaining that the protagonist is a piece of sh*t. Maybe it doesn't bother me because I never identify with characters in video games/movies/Books, etc.

That is why I prefer games where you create your own protagonists, i'm fine if they are silent, my favorite game ever had a silent protagonist. I played RDR 1 so much I remember every line of dialogue, John Marston is a fantastic character and very likeable, why is it so weird to expect the next game in the series to have a likeable character as well? It seems they are very inspired by Tarantino, no doubt does he make great movies, but I personally despise the "tough talking" dialogue in his movies, and this game seems to have it similar, RDR 1 was not like this at all, the dialogue was very interesting, humorous and at times even philosophical. I'm sure some people like it this way though.

With that being said, this game is something else. Just had a hunting session around Cumberland Falls, it was one of the best experiences I have ever had in a game, the immersion is completely unmatched by any other game, even a hunting simulator have a hard time competing with just one aspect of this game. The free roaming in this game is out of this world, there is no question about that. The more time is spend with this game, the more I enjoy it, it is very deep in many ways and as a result, have a big learning curve, maybe even to big for the average casual person.

I honestly think you just need to open your eyes, there is wildlife everywhere. It is a bit more realistic this time around though, the world is bigger and anmials are generally further away from you, hunting is definitely more challanging, but much more rewarding. RDR 1 did spawn too many predators for my taste, especially wolves but I would like to be attacked more often in the wilderness in this game though, maybe they did it too realistic this time around, but that is simply a matter of taste. Hunting is improved by alot though, there is no doubt about that.

I agree with Flannelmagic that you probably just need to open your eyes more.

There is wildlife literally  everywhere, I see Rabbits hopping beside the road all the time.

Just today I was near a river trying to bait a beaver, so I hid myself behind a rock and while waiting and all quiet I saw a deer drinking out of the river, I watched it with the binoculars while an eagle just happened to fly by to catch a fish out of the river. Games rarely managed to suck me into it's world like it did at that moment.

Edit: Yikes.

Well....

There's a broken quest

I need to sell a white cougar pelt for a side mission at a specific butcher(Yes, I tried going to Valentine's butcher shop but it failed once I left the vicinity)

But due to a specific mission giving me a high ass bounty in Strawberry, the butcher is closed!

And I'm 110 short of the bounty.....

I had no choice but to quit the mission. It's utter ridiculous!

That's the one time I'll probably ever have to be in Strawberry again I'm betting, I don't think it's worth $250.

Because likability is a flawed way to judge a work of fiction. I understand that identifying emotionally with a fictional character can be an important part of the experience to you but some of the best movies/tv series/book characters ever made are despicable human beings. It’s the character development and complexity that makes them interesting, not their likability.

Just got a $35 bounty cos my horse slightly bumped into someone.

Looted a body in the middle of nowhere and got wanted.

My horse tripped over nothing and crushed a guy, also gaining me a wanted level.

EDIT: can’t get to the post office in that town without getting shot at, so have to ride 7 million miles to a different one

Wherever I go I see wildlife. Rabbits running under the feet of my horse while galloping, birds flying in the air (you can shoot them with the rifle!), bizons, cougars, sh*tload of deers, random events etc. etc.

This game is the most 'alive' feeling open world game I've ever played. And I'm only like 8 hours in.

I understand that people still have a bitter taste about R* from GTA V, even I'm the same in that regard. However, some of the complaints here feel like straw-grasping at best. A map that feels completely dead? You're joking, right? What else could you possibly expect to see to make it feel more "alive"?

I think the process of waiting to hear about anything for RDR2 on PC will be a pretty similar feeling to the eager wait we experienced with GTA V.

I held off getting rid of my PS4 just for this damn game.

I generally agree with you, in movies, tv series and or books a characters likability has nothing to do with how good the character is or how well developed it is. My favorite book is Crime and Punishment, the main character in that book is a maniac/weirdo.

However I don't like it in a game, I want to play as myself in a game, especially in an immersive game as this. Since this game is so incredibly well made and realistic, punching people in the face when it isn't justified genuinely feel bad, I enjoy violence in games/movies, (love the gore in the game btw) but I don't enjoy violence against people I don't want to use violence against. Playing as a predefined character made by the developers feels limiting, and contributes to the feeling that you are just a spectator and the game is playing itself. I know rockstar will continue to follow the same path and has no reason to change this, but it kinda sucks when you play a character you dislike when you try to immerse yourself into the world by playing as yourself.

I don't think Benzies was as important as you make him out to be by then. Remember, he is the mastermind behind GTA Online. GTA Online is massive time sink for people without anything better to do, and massive money sink for people with better to do than grind their entire life in GTA. Shark cards were the DLC this time. DLC was not free in GTA Online. It took extreme time, or extreme amounts of money, just to get anywhere in it. Time = Money. He claims "The Housers only cared about single player". Good. I'm glad he's moving on to do something else, I sure wish I could care about any of them, however their secretive "out of the spotlight" manner makes it easy to be cut and dry. GTA Online is Leslie Benzies' fault. Maybe that's why he's not at R* anymore.

However, I agree with the stuff you said about atmosphere.

Foley is horrible in this game as well. Maybe it's glitches and bugs, however I noticed there are lots of wooden stuff that are silent when running on them, there are a lot of weird sound effects, the cutscenes are a bit goofy. There's a lot to be desired in the entire sound presentation. Foley is really bad. Some of it, again, might need a patch, or at least I hope so. The lack of sound effects, the sounds of the ones that are there, kinda weak in the foley and audio department all around. I haven't played hands-on yet, however watching the videos I've been watching, I'm not sure when I will actually get it myself. I may just passively take this one in.

Edit: important to state I think just in case of how the post sounds: I'm not devaluing your opinion, I appreciate your opinion of it all, it's a discussion, it wouldn't be fun if we agreed about every tidbit.

This is why you have a long list of save slots. Before you go into a mission/encounter, always save a save save in a seperate save slot.

if you f*ck up, just reload the save save.

My own B&M post:

I'm 25% through the story(work sh*te has got in the way) and normally, with most games, muscle memory has kicked in with the controls. Not with RDR2, I still seem to be scratching my head as to what does what.

For crying out loud don't get a carriage and a team of four to the point where you need to reverse it, you might as well top y'self and go back to the last check point immediately.

My new horse (named Ben for anyone that cares) disappeared, in camp, together with all my gear. Not sure if this is a bug or a 'feature'.

I was down by the station near Valentine and was talking to some geezer who was unloading sacks, and he and his cart just evaporated then I got shot by someone who wasn't there.

As I was going up the stair
I met a man who wasn't there!
He wasn't there again today,
Oh how I wish he'd go away!

Altogether I think it's a pretty good game, perhaps a great game, although I'm struggling to like the characters (or even give a sh*t about them) as I would perhaps in GTAIV or VC.

Finally, but most importantly who is this game aimed at? My box has a Pegi 18 cert, but yet Rockstar feel the need to give me a juvenile lecture on how badly the Native Americans were treated. I always find this hugely condescending. I don't doubt that the US government were a right bunch of wankers, but the Indian tribes gave the settlers some proper sh*te too (as they should have).

I'm fairly sure I'll take some stick for this post, but f*ck it - see y'all for Bully 2.

All the best,

You're not on a road in that case. Follow the red straight line to a road, where the navigator will continue to show you a path.
