I purposely avoided exploring anything while doing the story in RDR2 so I would have something to do after the story was done. There are a lot of game worlds (Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5, Mafia III, Ghost Recon Wildlands, GTAV, RDR and now RDR2) I really loved being in but that left me unhappy when the story was over because there was nothing after. Sure you could still play after the story but for what purpose?

I agree with alot of what you wrote and I have no love for modern gaming company practise, but why do people judge games on how much there is to do AFTER the game had finished. Devs cannot create an infinite experience for the player. R* gave us a huge map to explore and play in, and 40hr minimum gameplay experience which can easily be stretched to double that time even without 100%ing it.

There's no obligation to create more content for the SP experience. You're supposed to explore within that, not after it.

I was playing GTA IV last night and the amount of random NPC’s misbehaving is so cool. I don’t see any whatsoever in RDR2, so disappointing...

I fed my horse up to "overweight," and in less than five minutes just hanging out at my campsite, not even riding around, she went back down to "fit." Horse gets hungry way too quickly, and it's such a chore to feed

I didn't even know the horses had a weight system too lol. It's one of those gimmicks in the game that feels very inconsequential

Looking back, there was a few other things to criticise.
A problem I encountered with story telling in big games like this, happened to me in GTA V. You forget certain events and characters earlier on in the story.
Makes me go, "Who is that?" "Have I met them before?"

Spoiler

I had know idea who Mrs. Downes was when I saw her again later on in Annesburg or wherever it was.

You live the life or Arthur. Wash, eat, sleep. What does he do to release a bit of steam?
Does he have a little play before he goes to sleep? Can he get it up?
Sex is a huge part in a persons life and therefore a character, yet it is not explored. All that was needed was an explanation as why he doesn't have sex. Just one sentence was needed. "I have trouble getting it up."
Rockstar went for realism but missed this out completely. I dont expect it to be completly reaslistic, eg having to wee/poo. (Mini game tap triangle to push). I just imagine he does that on fast travels or during other time jumps.

f*cking game is overrated. Many half backed stuff in SP that will never be fixed, what a f*cking waste.

Too complicated core system why do i need to care about the heart symbol and the circle around it ? the same is for stamina and dead eye i don't have a time to look out for 6 things at once during gun fights. All of three cores runs out too fast especially in the start of the game you can get killed quickly because the cores are low level and runs out too fast. You need to use too much items like foods.

Man I hate crashing my horse into another rider. Not only does it instantly kill their horse so you lose honor for killing a horse, but if they have a partner riding with them, he will every single time chase you ALL OVER CREATION, and shoot at you with these futuristic guns that don't need to be reloaded at all, and he will NOT STOP until you are dead, like the Terminator. And if you kill him just to put an end to this annoying crap? You lose honor.

I shouldn't have to lose honor for such a clumsy mistake. Yes I ride like a bat out of hell sometimes, but it's an accident. I just want to swap insurance details and ride on.

Nulla Lex Ink.

This contains end game spoilers, but it's something I just thought of and I'd like some input from anyone else here.

Spoiler

Anyone else think that the choice to hang or not hang Cleet was kind of a missed opportunity? I mean, I've always hanged him, and I get that R* killed him off because they couldn't exactly leave the loose end of one of Micah's buddies still being around, but it would have been neat if not hanging him lead to an optional mission, ala sparing Brian in TLAD. If they still wanted to give Sadie her moment of shooting him, they could have still made that happen if you took too long to make a decision. I just think it would have been a cool way to put in another stranger mission that only John could complete.

I may have said this before, but I really think it would have been good if every single member of the camp had some activity they could have done with Arthur. It would have been nice to give us SOMETHING to do with Molly and Swanson so we can understand where they came from and who they are. I'd say of all the gang members they're the ones with the least amount of info known about them. Not a hundred percent sure what those activities could have been though. Maybe with Swanson you're going to get medical supplies, and with Molly you're escorting her to and through town (Seems like something she'd ask Arthur to do, since she's an upper class lady and would think she's deserving of that).

eesh - bit of a bump here but the horse owning system in online is reallly bad. like i spent time tracking a horse on the great plains, eventually broke it in and rode to a stables and the game tells me i cannot own the horse. now i gave the game a 6 month break or so, and forgot that you had to actually buy a horse (i already own 2 but felt like adding another to my collection) it strikes me as boring as hell that you can't source your own horse in the game but take ages ranking up to buy one - something that takes the feeling of freedom out of the game.

You're right there is no obligation to do it, but by now companies have to know that some people like their game so much they don't want to leave that world as soon as the main mission is done. And they write the scripted missions like they have to be done immediately after another, not wait several weeks while you are off hunting and gathering all the side mission stuff to unlock all the (now I know) useless trinkets. I mean I had level 8 in all three stats by the time I got the experience booster trinkets so they were useless. You go fishing and meet the Pinkertons and report the incident then six weeks later Charles finds you in the wilderness and asks if you are coming back to camp because you are doing side missions? No you immediately go to the next mission where you move camp. And when that is done you immediately have to do the next mission and the next because to do side stuff in between just doesn't feel realistic. And that is the problem for some people. Our lives suck so much we want the game to be the reality, and we don't want to leave it, even when the main game is complete. Why do you think so many people still play World of Warcraft? Cuz the real world sucks.

That's because they know about the idiotic Wanted system in the game. I was in the middle of nowhere and shot near a guy trying to kill an animal (that I missed) and got a wanted for disturbing the peace... IN THE F*ING MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!!! WTF R*!!! Good thing I have so much money just flopping all over because there is nothing meaningful to spend it on that I could go pay the $5 bounty I received for my horrible transgression. And don't get me started on how fast the law GETS to the middle of nowhere.

Not sure how constructive this is but I need to vent.

Im currently going for the golds, and have done up to Chapter 6 without too many gripes.

But “Just a Social Call”, seriously, wtf?

Micah and Dutch just keep dying, even though I’m constantly in front of them and gunning down people like I’m in a John Woo film.

Both the gold targets are tricky but wouldn’t be a problem, but 9 out of 10 times these guys get head-shotted from distance. Then you have to repeat a really long tedious walk at the start that can’t be skipped.

Who the hell playtested this?

No, a combination of a repeater in the open and dual wielding pistols inside. Does the choice of weapon make any difference other than how fast you kill people?

Not really but i guess it should help. Replaying missions however is a whole new ball game...

Cheers I’ll give it a try. I’m not replaying so I can even spam deadeye tonics. But the big problem is Dutch and Micah have the survival chances of a pair of Lemmings 2 metres from a cliff edge.

This mission is basically RDR2’s “Catch the Wave” from GTA IV, where whatever you did Phil Bell would die stupidly and often.

Well, I owe you some thanks here.

I had 18 failed attempts, about 15 of them Dutch or Micah died. Tried using the pump shotgun first time got through but must have narrowly missed the time. Got the gold after that and the gold rush achievement. I’m hoping to add golds to my 100% guide on this forum (although I’m still on Chapter VI and only got the golds to end of Chapter II video processes), will be sure to credit you if I ever get it done.

I never want to hear Cornwall say he won’t borrow at more than 3.2% again.

I don't like how most of the side missions in the game are so grindy and boring. Most of them really consist of, "collect this, collect that, hunt this animal that has a 10% chance of spawning, hunt this animal, but get a perfect carcass", it just gives me a headache especially that Exotics side mission.

Really there's only 2 doctors in this game??? What happened to all the other doctors from RDR1!? At least Blackwater should have a doctor! That town is the 2nd biggest yet it still doesn't have a railway, a doctors office, or a gun store!

Aside from the outdated wanted system and laughable honor system, my complain would be the lack of enemy reaction whenever you killed their friend (something GTA V have), this makes killing a bit unsatisfying

Unable to kill those annoying kids without getting robbed by them

Stupid ped thinking I'm following them eventhough I just want to get downstair

Arthur/John didn't do the "stop, drop, roll" when they catch on fire like in GTA

This!!!

I mean, comparing to other AAA open world games the side quests are lacking. That and the fact progression doesn't seem to have any impact other than the dead eye.

Most of the crime you could get wanted is borderline stupid. Unarmed assault because I'm trying to start a brawl? Disturbing the peace because I antagonized people? The wild west in RDRII is laughably more civilized than GTA's modern world

Sure its been said, but forcing people to skip cut scenes to achieve gold medals.  I just completed the 70 gold medals achievement.  I tried to save it for the last mission as Arthur and go out with a bang.  But due to the fact that game forces you into several missions in a row, I was unable to make the achievement happen at a time that was synced with the games story. I did not even get gold because I chose to watch the cut scenes and missed the reach Sadie in one minute in the last mission.  Whoever thought the timers should run during these cut scenes should be fired.

If there is somthing i don't like is how John behave and act like he is Arthur Morgan in the side missions. That is really stupid. And the fact that John have Arthur's body and hair

I think the slip borders make no sense sometimes and they should have put more work into blocking off areas instead of adding the slip borders, maybe like in chapter one where a storm would slowly kill arthur if he left camp or in this case if he was too far from the map same with the invisible sniper in new austin i think they should have done something that makes much more sense like the police following him into new austin and hunting him down.
