I just LOVE how the game unlocks the Blackwater shops during the mission where you rescue Seán, but insta fails the mission if you dare go near Blackwater. Oh and how nice of them to relock the shops after the mission is completed OR if you cancel the mission.

Blackwater is also completely unlocked during the mission Red Dead Redemption,  and is inaccessible then as well. You can't even cancel out of the mission.

Firstly I love this game and I'm currently on my third play through - which for me is unheard of as I'll usually only start a game again at least 6 months after I first finish it. But still it's not perfect and heres a few gripes of mine.

I hate how weapons are forced on us or weapons that we've specifically equipped for a mission are automatically changed after a cut scene because Rockstar wants us to to do things their way. Seriously pisses me off when this happens.

Hunting is by far my favourite activity to do in the game but fresh kills decompose WAY too quickly. I went hunting for a black bear and after some time found a pristine three star bear that I stalked for some time before taking my shot and putting it down. This was in that forest area just north of Owanjila and I sniped the bear from above on a ledge, I didn't want to risk dying so instead of trying to jump down I just got on my horse and galloped around and down to the bear - this literally took me all but 10 seconds and by the time I got to the bear it had decomposed and was no longer able to be skinned. I cant tell you how mad this made me - completely ruined a perfect hunting session and I literally just had to turn my console off.

Outfits - firstly it's a joke you can only store 5 considering the vast amount of clothing options. Secondly they ALWAYS disappear off my horse and I just dont get why. I feel they just over complicated the outfit storage system when it could have been so simple. I also noticed that after a while custom outfits will disappear out of your wardrobe all together.

Lastly as pretty much everyone else has mentioned the wanted system is pretty flawed. The other day I literally became wanted for pressing the antagonise button after someone said a negative comment to me first. I also became wanted while taking part in a shooting challenge with an NPC.

Also gloves should be able to be equipped and unequipped from your horse all the time, like how hats are. We should also be able to equip masks while on foot too.

Custom outfit zero (the non-numbered one) screws with all the other outfits in various ways

Editing your outfits is so ass backwards, you have to equip the outfit in the wardrobe which changes it to custom outfit zero and removes it from the horse, then edit it, delete the numbered version and resave it, then change your outfit again, and store the newly edited outfit on the horse

Dont even get me started about the Bandolier infecting all the rest of your custom outfits and giving them a bandolier, even if you have a different bandolier equipped

Like, is it that hard to code a wardrobe that works efficiently?

This is exactly what I mean They've just over complicated things, or maybe it's a glitch they just haven't bothered to patch.

This ones a bit spoilerish but I hate how Arthur cant complete some side quests because you cant go to New Austin with him. For me it's just seems stupid having John randomly finishing them off 8 years later. Legendary fish, Legendary animals, dinosaur bones etc. should all be able to be completed by Arthur. The hunting requests has gotta be the most bewildering, theres absolutely no reason for the last request list to only be available in the epilogue. I seriously dont get why New Austin wasn't accessible to Arthur or didn't make an appearance in his part of the story.

^^ The one thing I never could understand is why we cannot simply store jackets on the horse just like the hats, gloves, and masks. You can actually toggle your gloves from the saddle which is something I discovered very late while playing the game. So why not one for jackets? It would make sense for Arthur to take his warm jacket off in hot weather. I don't think they would need to go so far as to allow you to change your boots and vests, but the jacket seems like a no brainer, instead of relying on saved outfits. It's such an unnecessary pain in the butt. I want to have my outfit, and simply put on a warm jacket when I'm in cold weather and vice versa.

Gonna add one more minor gripe I have with the game. It drives me nuts when I try to go to a mission and it's greyed out because of "recent actions I have taken". I would understand this if I was in the process of being wanted or something, but in the latest particular case I saw a 3 star animal I needed and popped off a shot and skinned it up. Slapped the skin on my horse and then proceeded on my merry way and lo and behold the mission is greyed out. All because I decide to take one shot from my rifle.

So I had to camp and sleep and then magically the mission came back. I don't understand why this person would take offense to me taking a shot at some wide life near them. It's the wild west, guns are going off all the time!

Why in hell can you not mount other gang members horses? It drives me insane. Especially after the main story, I really want to ride Uncle’s horse but Rockstar decided not to let us do this...  it would be like not being able to drive Amanda’s car in GTA V etc.

Even if we kill it, the horse should just respawn, come on R* at the end of the day, it’s just a game.

Less restrictions the better.

There's some really annoying restrictions as to where you can go around the mountain regions. There are some hills that aren't even that steep yet I can't climb them.

Set up camp at the three way intersection west of Barrow Lagoon, due west of Planter's Baum. You can climb the mountains from there. You can also get to Tempest Rim and/or go out of the map from there.

Thanks, might try that at some point if I have time. If/when this game comes out on PC it'd be nice to have a mod that fixes this, because it's just dumb and immersion-breaking.

edit: Also gaining money in this game feels pretty unbalanced. After some of the story missions around the middle of the game I've pretty much never ran out of money.

Well you COULD...... but Rockstar removed this feature for God knows what reason. It's fully coded to not let you store the horse or put your saddle on it AND if you kill it, it just respawns at camp a day later.

Yeah true it would be handy to have that option. If I know I'm gonna be going from a warm to cold environment I'll usually just save two outfits and store them on my horse, one with a jacket one without and just equip the jacket version from my horse whenever I need it.

I've even noticed with gloves they're only available on your horse if you equip them from your wardrobe first, if you dont select them as part of your outfit they won't be on your horse to equip which I think is pretty stupid seeing as you can always equip and unequip hats from your horse.

Yeah, I do the same as a workaround. Just save a basic outfit and then add one regular jacket version and one warm jacket version with gloves. For no real reason except the immersion factor. Then I just store one random outfit just in case I feel like robbing a store or something😁 Yeah, there are a lot of dumb little things that detract from the game unfortunately. I didn't care much at first when I was focused on the story and for some reason have noticed a lot more little niggling annoyances on a second playthrough where I'm messing around in the world a lot more.

It's something small but I hate how the gang openly refer to each other by their names while doing Robberies

Was animal cruelty a crime back then? Who gave a sh*t? I swear 1899 is more civilized and disciplined than 2013 Los Santos.

I hate that R* keeps kiling the Good Guys  [Arthur and John]].   I wrote a Theory of hjow the story could play out before it was released.   MUCH better ending and ties the two games together-it would explain how Jack, who screamed at his horse like an 11 year old going thru Puberty became the Gunslinger his daddy was.

As far as New Aurtin not available?  Same reason the story has Arthur lamenting [[maybe it was Dutch]] as to how they chased them from the West, chased them over the Mountains..." and they want to return to the West and get their Munnay from Blackwater but, logically speaking, using Meatworld locations and the game map-they were Northwest of Blackwater.   To be chased EAST over the mountains they would have had to be in some place in California, run into the Rockies in Colorado or the mountains of New Mexico-then Blackwater would be around Kansas.   Armadillo would be around San Antonio Texas comparing where Mexico is to it.-that's South/Southeast.

You have to feed your horse like ten things of hay in a row to bring it from Malnourished to Thin

This should be lowered to maybe 4 tops

It's tedious and it's the longest animation too, you can't spam it like you can with brushing and patting

Yeah this sucks. I would love to find a way to buy those outfits from the Balckwater tailor while playing as Arthur.

At the moment, this isn't possible without a save editor even if you do the John to Arthur glitch.

Finally finished the game a couple of days ago. I'm sure it's already been said many times, but the main thing I hope R* improves in their future games are the missions. They really need to give us more options to just do things how we want rather than always following a set path. There's hardly any player-agency in those missions and it just gets real boring. The only reason I really even bothered to finish this game is, because I liked the story.

Also I hate how I can't get into shops when cops are after me. If the store clerk locks the doors then let me at least kick it open or something. I wanna go inside and have a shootout in there. I just hate these kinds of arbitrary restrictions.

I hate the way the challenges are designed so that you can only achieve them once you've unlocked the right ranks. Some more advanced challenges are much easier to complete than other lower ranks ones and it pisses me off.

The game is an outstanding open world experience and yet here I am now, forced to go around the world map with a damn bucket list in my hand. Oh, gotta go kill three rabbits NOW. Oh, gotta go play Blackjack in Van Horn NOW.

In my opinion, they should all be available from the start and you just complete them slowly but surely, as you please, by going through the game and just having fun. Who knows, maybe you reach the credits and completed 65 challenges without ever having to look up at the tasks you needed to do.

It's anti open world.

The atmospheric music sucks. Hard. The mission/gunfight music is classic spaghetti western and it’s *amazing*, so when the lazy and boring atmospheric music kicks in as you’re riding around it’s incredibly jarring. It’s like two different audio people were in charge of it. The reason the atmospheric music worked in Redemption 1 is because it aped classic western movie music, and it varied depending on your location. In Redemption 2 though it’s all generic bluegrass/folk, and it’s the same five repetitive 15-second loops over and over and over again. It’s annoying and just sounds... bad.

Tbf the music does change depending on what part of the map you're in. But ultimately I agree the ambient free roaming music is definably a step down from what we had in RDR1.

Having said that though some of the unique scores we get during missions are incredible.

//

Another criticism of mine would be the auto triggering of missions. I only like doing missions when I want to do them so it's annoying having to avoid certain areas of camp because it will trigger a mission as soon as you get near a certain character i.e. in chapter 3 when Pearson and Sadie are having an argument a mission triggers as soon as you get near to them. For me it just defeats the purpose of it being a open ended, open world game.

The more I listen to the ambient score the more I agree with this. You go head down near mexico and hear the mexico music from the first game and it's just head and shoulders above all of the rest of the ambient music in the game. And I didn't even really pay much attention to the music in the first game.

I still kinda like that honky jingle that plays sometimes when you ride your horse fast. I remember once I was riding and the tune started playing, and then the horse slammed into a rock and the music just stopped all abruptly,  it was hilarious. Like, "Giddyup! ...oh..oh wait no."

I like the unsettling score you hear in the Bayou and the soothing music up in the Grizzlies but the rest of it is just meh. It's not bad, I think some of it is actually good but it just doesn't stay with you like the ones from RDR1 did. Plus, they play the same ones over and over again.

A bit like Spider-Man's PS4 theme, it sounds great but it's the same 4 minute loop that plays incessantly.

When I started hunting for all the satchel materials months ago, I turned off the ambient music to hear animal sounds better. Haven't turned it back on since, unless I was playing missions.
