Entering New Austin territory? (may contain spoilers)

Hi,

Without going into details, at what chapter can I clearly enter New Austin territory. Right now I'm in chapter 2 and if I go there I get hunted down fast.

Following chapter six, it is free to enter, but be sure to have good artillery on you. Lost my horse and nearly my life.

Sounds like it's "off limits" (like trying to enter Blackwater) even after it's unlocked?

If so, what's the point of that? Go figure...

It unlocks shortly after the main story.

Idk what that guy is on about. You'll run into trouble, but it's no different to roaming around in New Hanover or Lemoyne.

What the hell? It's a lot different. You have bounty hunters and lawmen up your ass every thirty seconds. I've just been rushing there over and over again today, I have a 1,165 dollar bounty in West Elizabeth right now because of the insane law there

You can't even get more than a few feet into New Austin before the game auto kills you

Pretty unessesary to randomly spoil major plot points for no reason especially when it's not relevant to the topic.

A few feet? I rode full speed to Blackwater and back without getting killed. It was right at the beginning.

Like everyone else said you won’t be able to access it until you beat the main story missions but I did managed to get into Hennigan’s Stead before the game autokilled me and I was on Chapter 3 at the time.

It kept auto killing me when i was close to Mcfarlane's ranch but the other day it didn't (must have been a bug?) and i was able to reach gaptooth ridge with arthur.

Sounds like you got the record.

Your bounty in NA and Blackwater West Elizabeth area drops after Chapter 6 but you can try exploring it before.

I tried to go to New Austin in Chapter 2 and was killed pretty instantly.

I tried again in Chapter 4 and I was never chased by the law. I only saw the law after I finally made it to Tumbleweed, they were by the Sheriff's building so I wasn't even spotted by them.
I was able to check almost every settlement + landmarks before I got bored and decided to return lol.

Funnily enough the only issue I faced as soon as I entered the Great Plains was my horse getting spooked by a Cougar and making me fall off lol. Had to kill the Cougar and call back my horse.

I"m at the end of Chapter four right now and still getting hassled by the law in west elizabeth and I cannot access New Austin. Something is off. Either youre lying or your game glitched

He isn't lying went there myself tumbleweed is full of lawmen but for the most part it was a quiet ride. Though you can clearly tell that New Austin isn't meant to be playable by Arthur.

So is blackwater accessible or it's just like New Austin?

Also can you survive the invisible sniper from an interior?

Seem's to be all towns are under lock down but the region of New Austin can be visited in chapter 4. Some people have reported that they still get shot regardless, but if you can be warned dialogue is glitched in the New Austin region.

I literally spent about 4 hours last night trying to get into New Austin during chapter 4 with no success

I assume it's New Austin from 1907, and they didn't change it to reflect that it's 1899 as they did with Blackwater? For example, the bank is being built as John but is not there as Arthur.

What happens if you try to enter earlier in the game?

Like the GTA games up until GTA IV, the law comes after you.

The playerbase has changed significantly to already have a generational amnesia about that! Wild.

2 things: 1. as i said before it's different for everyone, though if you can go you can tell YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE WITH ARTHUR. 2. New Austin is not nearly as well off as it was in RDR1.

It's a bit weird they did nothing at all with new austin, aside from a mission in the epilogue where you can briefly observe armadillo through binoculars before a shootout in the canyon.

I was really looking forward to it, too.

It's basically entirely fan service, there's some interactions with the Del Lobo gang dotted around, a bunch of RDR1 easter eggs (even one of a famous glitch) and a few other little things but yea, there's not much there. It does have it's own unique weather though, the sandstorms are pretty awesome.

Riding through New Austin though is kinda weird tbh, I know it's not got the full treatment but even when you're just exploring the bare terrain the difference between a map designed for a game released 8 years ago and a map designed for 2018 is stark.

I haven't ridden into NA yet but even around West Elizabeth it's almost painfully empty haha I remembered quickly how you could nearly ride in straight lines across the RDR1 map. RDR2 does a great job at forcing you to stick to the road for the majority of your travels

I blasted the story because I wanted the whole map unlocked. it wasn't worth it really at the end of the day. take your time with the story and enjoy the main map (its just fan service anyway, and there for online)

Bear hunting in Tall Trees is as epic as it ever has been though.

I should say there's absolutely nothing wrong with a bit of fan service. The game is gigantic and a hell of a ride, so the fan servicey Epilogue is more than welcome. There are some very cool little moments in the Epilogue too, particularly ones that reference the main story and the time that has passed.

Yea New Austin has that barren feel to it, which is partly by design but yea, if they made that map for 2018 it'd have a lot more places and in general more life to it I think.
