Message for Rockstar: rebalancing the game's economy

Recommended Posts

ArrghGrogh

Hello, I played rdr2 on my computer in Twith 😉

And I got some recommendations for Rockstar's.

I am from Russia, so let me intervene in your game.

/trollface

The game has a broken motivation for mining money.

In order for the violence in the game to make sense, you need to put a character and a world where money really has great value.

Simply put, there is too much money in the game.

To make this world more real, it is necessary to create difficulties for the character. Overcoming difficulties, the player will receive joy from the money earned.

At the moment, the player can enjoy the extraction of money only in the first and second chapters. Because there are a lot of needs, and there are few opportunities to receive money, this creates difficulties, interest, motivation, excitement and a feeling of joy in achieving its small goal.

All together it creates an atmosphere.

You need to rebalance the economy in the game and reduce the amount of money received by the character. Treasures and robberies of banks break the economy particularly hard due to the ease of implementation of these actions and inadequately high rewards.

Balancing the economy, you do not need to come up with artificial ways to spend money in the game.

The fines in the game also relate to a broken economy, you can kill an entire army, rob a bank of several hundred or thousand dollars, go to the post office and pay 5-10% of the money received as repurchase for your head.

The cost of fines is inadequately small.

The cost of lives NPC should have a much higher price.

I think this is now called NPC discrimination. Their life matters 😟

Many opponents of the NPC do not know how to use objects to shelter from bullets, they just stand in the middle of the corridor or room in full growth and begin to fight. It looks extremely ridiculous and infringes upon the rights of the NPC on an intellectual basis.

Interestingly, the Allied characters successfully use all the shelters and doors and walls, and more.

I'm waiting for the game on the PC, thanks, great job. We hope that console users will find all the errors.

Seen this much lately, and I do disagree.

In all these R* games, money has always been easy once we learn where it is if we want it and content always had limits. San Andreas for example, just had to kill a few dealers, set for most all we need to start out well, and a million or so would see you through. Never once did having that much cash impede my fun at the time, indeed, I had plays where I didn't get anymore cash than the game gave through the stories, played skint and didn't loot on some. RDR last too, just did the first couple of missions to get full control, then hunted/bought ammo/hunted. $10k goes a long way in this world, lol.

It's good that the money is frequent and easy, with online in mind that is. We know R* will focus there soon, and online not being a grind or a chore to access content. Well, that's the dream. I welcome easy cash this way as I don't want to grind nor feel compelled to pay for virtual cash.

The bounty fines don't contribute. Being bad does. Don't if it's too costly. We ain't got a creepy pervert to bail us out at a whim in this game, that sh*t's far out of place here. Here is where the criminals actually had to be criminals, Gotta be smarter to get away with crime here. GTA is the crime sim, this is the west, where it's punishing/unforgiving.

Again, if glitches are minimised (big if), can only be good for online, IMHO, but we'll see, I'm optimistic, but open minded and do expect the worst. But speculating and dreaming is nice for now. (Though, if cash is easier to earn, this undermines my first point a bit too, lol).

Finding the balance isn't a job for me, but I do want it. I feel the story mode here shows R* are gonna try to at least attempt less grief/more freedom to pay or play. But we'll see. I wouldn't hold my breath though. Just hope.

GTA:O was the only 'endless' thing R* did, so IMHO, historically, this story mode is very much just another R* story mode. Though far bigger and with so much potential to grow once online comes, if GTA:O is anything to go by.

It's story mode, which shouldn't be a grind in this game. You want to either progress in the story or explore the world, not grind until you have enough to buy some ammo.

Perhaps R * needs to create a couple of difficulty levels for the game. The one that now and new hard, with a changed economy.

It seems to me that the level of money extraction, which is now, does not bring pleasure from the game.

By the end of the second chapter, players are already starting to skip most ways of making money, and at the beginning of the third chapter, the joy of mining money does not bring any pleasure at all, it turns into a routine.

The first bank robbery does not cause any joy, except "oh, money again, okay." By the middle of the third chapter there is so much money that there is already nothing to buy. Imagine if you have 3,000 dollars or more in your pocket, and they give you a mission in which they offer to go and spend your time robbing some kind of nonsense. You need to kill crowds of enemies, chase, shooting, robbery, intrigue, but all this makes no sense because the reward for the mission is low, and the money to spend is nothing. Or, you see expensive weapons in a magazine store, but your pocket is empty. You want this weapon and a lot of improvements for it. You set a goal to get money, it motivates you to engage in dangerous adventures in order to get money, side missions, capture and sale of wild horses, robberies, hunting and much more. You perform several missions, gradually accumulating the amount you need and with satisfaction you buy what you want.

Do you understand what I'm saying? This is the simplest psychological scheme, goal + motivation + reward + joy of achieving the goal and receiving the reward.

This scheme is broken in this game, as a result of this, the gameplay quickly turns into a routine and becomes boring.
You have so many rewards that you have nothing to spend it on, which means that there is no interest and sense in receiving more.

For example, imagine a police dog.
She has the goal of the game to find an object by smell, she has the motivation to get a delicious delicacy.

Now imagine what happens if you replenish this dog with this delicacy, give it to him in unlimited quantities. At first she will eat him without interruptions, but he will cover him very quickly, and the dog will lose interest in this award, he will no longer play / work for the sake of this pleasure.

Simply put, the money in the game is completely devalued, and this turns the numerous ways of making money in the game into meaningless decorations.

I disagree, I think its actually frustratingly hard to earn big money in this game. Like it should be.

All depends on what you do.. if someone finishes all 3 treasure hunts for example and a few other gold bars before starting other missions, you will have plenty to upgrade camp and  buy all guns accesible at that time... if you dont.. and you get some bounties.. it indeed is a lot harder all of the sudden

the bounty system is ridiculous to begin with... you get a $1.50 bounty for robbing the doctor's office, give me a break, i just load my game at that point... i actually dont play by rockstar's stupid rules and if i die, get arrested, etc... i load my game... i consider death, death, i dont like modern video games that dont punish you... i grew up playing nintendo

if i play by rockstar's rules, i'll put 10 to 20 hours into the game, get bored and never play it again... the way i play, it takes forever to do anything... it makes the game fun, i like games to be hard and i like it when games send you backwards when you die

Making money is easy? That's why I have a $600 bounty on my head IN EACH town and the only gun I could afford is the volcanic pistol. I have just entered chapter 3 lmao. Making money should be made easier instead.

You really must be doing something wrong to be in such a situation.

This is how I feel. This game seems to be the most balanced when it comes to the economy, at least to me.  It depends more on how you approach it. There is high risk, high reward. Slow and steady or somewhere in between. Now I just completed chapter 2, so maybe that changes, but that's how I feel right now.

I agree.

If you play as paragon/good and do the side missions, it's easy to make money.

If you cause trouble I imagine it's much harder.

I think they did it well, if you really want quick cash, it’s there, you can easily build up ~$2500 in a hour or two but yes, playing normally and not actively hunting cash, it’s pretty difficult to stay above $100

I made the fatal mistake of thinking that you could just go all badass to start the game.

It's really not that kind of game, you have to be strategic.

Isolated house/ranches/camp fires + missions are the best ways to make money and not get a bounty
