GTA Online friend help!

Hi guys, I'm new to GTA online and so is my friend. We have done 'missions' up to the part where you have to drive to Cypress flats, now we're on our own I think. 

When I try to connect with her it just says that she hasn't played GTA online yet, and it says the same for her about me.

 

We've tried one of us going on story mode and inviting the other, but again it doesn't let us. It doesn't even say invite to game, it just says send message or view profile.

 

Anyone got any idea what we're doing wrong? Thanks so much

This happens often even when trying to join friends that have long played the game. It sounds like you have both completed the tutorial so its a R issue.

When this happens I can pretty much always join them through the crews tab.

So if you guys are not in a crew you can head to social club and make one(Playing with crew may even give more RP).

Once you are both in a crew you can go to the start menu in-game and go to the Online tab then click on crews. From there you should be able to see your crew, view the members and you should then see the option to join.

Are you appearing offline to each other or have the game privacy setting set to prevent others seeing what you're doing?

What about viewing the player in Pause > Friends, do they appear online then and can they be invited to a game there? 

You could also try starting a closed friends session and then telling the other person to join via the same way, through the pause menu. 

Of course, it'd help if people actually stated what platform they;re on.
