SPOILER:*MAJOR SPOILERS* Something I wish Rockstar had in the game

I wish they had the feature where you could play as Arthur from 1899 (preferably with no tuberculosis and not dead) after you complete the story. Somewhat like how Far Cry 5 gave you the ability to still do side missions and other activities even after what happened at the end of that game. I would use a older save but my manual save is from after he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and also the Social Club chooses that save to display your stats on the site.

yeah, i agree. I dont want to play as John honestly, i want to play as Arthur. They could atleast done something with the story so you could switch between both john and arthur imo

My thoughts exactly, they could atleast of added a character switch option when you’ve completed the game. For example you decided to switch to Arthur...a loading screen with the year 1899 comes on screen, you then have access to the gang & camp at one point within the game, where Arthur is not sick! I’m even going through a new save rn just to get to that point within the story before he gets tuberculosis...

I think R* might see the feedback from the ending and decide to implement some kind of NG+ mode, that'd be awesome.

yeah the best idea would be for them to go back to 1899 before the blackwater job before they go up into the mountains so that the gang isnt in hiding and arthur could go to blackwater and armadillo and also interact with the whole gang before they start dying. otherwise he cant because hes wanted. and also let us play as john in 1906 as well.

When I first saw that it was Part One of the Prologue I kept hoping that after John's prologue we'd flashback and get a Charles prologue where we get to play out his time with the Indians. Then end with a Sadie Prologue with her burying Arthur and cleaning up some of his loose ends while also taking a few bounties here and there.

 

As much as I enjoyed John's prologue and the way it wrapped things up I feel weird playing as him now that everything's done. Being John and going off to explore the map for days on end with a wife, son and a ranch to run back home just doesn't feel right. Plus there doesn't really seem like there's a whole lot to do with him other than roam around and hunt.

Yeah; I'm not there yet but I was spoiled fairly early on because f*cking Powerpyx wanted to use John for ALL their collectible videos for some damn reason. Only dinosaur bones are in New Austin, not dream catchers and rock art! -.-

 

Like I wouldn't mind as much if we got to play as Sadie or one of the other remaining gang members.... but John just feels like unnecessary fan service having Arthur killed. If other gang members got to go off and live their lives why couldn't Arthur go off and get married to Mary or one of the gang girls of your choice?(Romance options would have made it more RPG rather than having Mary forced on us, playing us like a fiddle. I actually thought Mary-Beth would have been one since you get to dance with her after saving Sean, and I did)

 

I do hope Rockstar adds New Game Plus. It's the new thing modern games like to do and I think it'd work great for this game. Getting to play as Arthur again without cheats and not really needing to 'restart' completely.

I agree. I had a feeling R* would make us play as John after Chapter 6, which is why I made a second save file before the the final mission.

 

I've had enough of John from RDR1.

It's completely possible the feature will come or it may appear later as a DLC add-on.

Not even really a NEW GAME + mode, but just an extension option for the original story.

 

Like how Fallout 3 had very distinct/clear closure in the main story for the main character, however the DLC offered an optional altered ending that allowed for continuation.

I could see R* doing the same with Arthur; potentially where he's ultimately saved at the end & then cured, playable in post-epilogue, now free of all ties & ready for sandbox play.

So not quite Fallout 3's add-on optional change that has further story, but at least offers a decent scenario/explanation as to why we can play as Arthur again after the epilogue.

All I know is this: John is a weed compared to Arthur! - Also what are the stranger missions like with John? I haven't sought them out yet... is the dialogue for the video sequences the same with john

I feel like this was Rockstar’s way of saying we’re sorry we let you play as annoying Jack in the last game after John died but here... you can play as John again and relive a beloved character. lol

 

Also, John with a goofy looking bushy beard looks weird as f*ck.

Different dialogue, it’s pretty unique...John explains to certain strangers who he is if you already started them with Arthur!

Yeah I haven't done many of the stranger missions so I guess I get to play a sort of sub-game with John after the Epilogue, pretty cool! Takes some getting used to though, figured it was going to happen even before the tuberculosis

Yeah, I’ve grown used to playing as him now...decided to play the black hat as him. It never gets boring having bounty hunters track you down when I’m different states!

Most of the ones I had already started as Arthur were gone when I started as John. I've been sort of roaming around from town to town looking for new ones but there don't seem to be many.

 

I'm really wishing I'd created a couple alternate saves throughout the game. I'm not quite ready to start over from the beginning but there just isn't a whole lot of reason to keep wandering around as John with nothing to do.
