Beta Arthur

tha nose for one is different.. same for tha ears.. also looks like he had a scar on tha upper part a his nose almost right between his eyebrows.. also there seems ta be a scar on tha left side a his face.. could jus be tha picture tho.. and also.. could jus be tha angle.. but it seems his jawline was thinner.. and also.. if we are to assume that this is tha same blue winter coat that he has.. then tha collar wasn't as high as it is in tha final game

Damn I feel uncomfortable with him staring at me like that, lol. Beta Arthur looks scary.

Maybe they changed him when they realized he is more of a good person then a scary gunslinger.
For example, John Marston becomes angry and wants revenge only in RDR, but in RDR2 is more chill... still he looks scarier then Arthur.

You were totally supposed to be able to free roam with companions. I've been using that glitch recently discovered by Julian E the last couple of days, where you can get a random assortment of the gang members to follow you around, and there is SO MUCH dialogue that I've never heard before, both from other NPCs and the allies, and a good chunk of it is definitive in pointing at what could have been. I can't remember it all, but just today I took seven of them (Micah, Hosea, Sean, Bill, Javier, Charles and Kieran) to Hanging Dog Ranch. On the way there I heard some horse riding NPC refer to us as "idiots," and then while at the gang hideout one of the O'Driscolls shouted "I got enough bullets for all y'all!" Then while exploring some after, bounty hunters came after me and after they were taken down I heard Charles say "I think that's all of them," and I heard other gang members say stuff like that at other points, none of which I think are ever said during missions.

This glitch is the best one yet, and it saddens me that it isn't a feature. It saddens me more that it seems like it was intended to be and was evidently cut out so late in development. And it sucks that it's so finnicky. I must have been trying for an hour to get more than one or two yesterday and today (not that I have a problem with just one or two, I just wanted more than that at the time). At one point in chapter three, I got ten (Dutch, Hosea, John, Javier, Bill, Lenny, Charles, Sean, Micah and Kieran) but Bill wandered off, and trying to get him back I lost Micah, and trying to get Micah I lost everyone else and have not since been able to replicate that result.

Which reminds me, it seems like anytime a companion mounts your spare horse, the icon for it on the map turns red. I've seen it do that when Sean and Micah mounted it. Thought that was pretty neat and worth noting here, don't think I've seen it anywhere else.

yes i definitely agree. i recently found out how to get companions. and it is so fun. but it is so dumb how you cant just hang out with a companion without a glitch. i love how they have the gang aspect in this game. yet you cant even hang out with your favorite gang members. that was a huge wasted possibility.

It is a very strange omission considering the entire theme of the game. A buddy of mine theorized that they were working on it but weren't quite done in time so they cut it in order to get it out as scheduled, which is why there are just so many remnants of it (and hints of it in the gameplay videos). Me personally, I feel like there might be a rerelease and that will be one of the advertised features, haha.

Who all have you been able to get come out with you? So far I've mostly played in chapter 2 and 3. In chapter 2 the most I've gotten is five or six, and I got all ten very briefly in 3 but on average the most I get is six to eight. So far in those chapters I've gotten Dutch, Hosea, John, Bill, Javier, Lenny, Charles, Micah, Sean and Kieran. In chapter six I've yet to get more than three, though admittedly I have not tried that one as much; Cleet and Joe are always part of the three, and so far the third has always been Sadie or Bill, and an odd little thing about that chapter for me, it won't immediately let me set up camp when I respawn by the river. No matter where I go it'll say I can't set up camp when I'm already at camp, so I have to run back up to the hideout, then run out the front and then it lets me set up camp, and when I exit Cleet and Joe and whoever else come running. I've heard you can get Cain, Rufus and Uncle, and I've seen video of Karen being out and about.

Also, any tips on making this glitch more effective, like what angles to come at or anything like that? I spent a good while today trying to get a bunch of folks from Clemens Point but it took a long while no matter where I came in from, and several times it seems like I'd only get one or even nobody. Wish I could remember how I did it so I got ten people, but honestly, I'm beginning to think it all comes down to dumb luck and persistence. Seems like I've had the best luck in chapter three going in between the two dotted line paths, and walking backwards so that the dynamite blows me closer to camp. Not sure if it has any real effect, but I will say the last three times I tried to get a big group tonight, it worked two out of three times, though one time I got absolutely nobody. I was also curious if the person coming at you had to survive or not, but that doesn't seem to be a factor; the guy coming at me this last time was killed and I ended up with seven people afterward. I think my big problem with Clemens Point might be that I've been trying to come in at the side or going right down the trails, but if I'm remembering right those are how I got some of my groups, so I honestly don't know, it might just be really fickle about when it works.

For the record, my saves I've been using have been:

-Chapter 2: The only mission available is "Money Lending and Other Sins III." I have everyone I can available at the camp. There are a few friend activities that pop up off and on since I haven't done any on that file, which I've made specifically for this purpose.

-Chapter 3: It's the very beginning, haven't done either "The New South" or "Further Questions of Female Suffrage." I think at some point I'll make it so that "Blessed are the Peacemakers" is the only mission available, that way everyone is in camp and available for this, and I can take them on stage robberies.

-Chapter 6: Only mission available is "Our Best Selves."

-I haven't tried Shady Belle, Lakay or the epilogue yet.

Also, this might sound dumb but I gotta say it guys. One of the most satisfying moments of this glitch was when I stole a wagon while traveling with the gang and watched as six of them piled into the back and another one got up front with me. It was equally awesome watching them all jump out. And there is nothing like hearing all those horses going at full speed. It's like thunder. I love it.

Now I remember that shot from the first gameplay video that everyone was talking about: The one showing the gang getting chased near Blackwater near the end of the trailer. I dont think it was a cut mission, but perhaps we were seeing the companion feauture. Shame. Imagine all the work that went into it only to have it be cut not too far from release date.

I remember that one too, and I strongly believe that it's showing off the companion feature as well. There was speculation is was made just for the trailer because it showed Hosea along with Micah's buddies, and it could very well have been, but the last couple of days I've been thinking they might have been intended to have an earlier introduction. I don't really have much to go on other than the fact that they can possibly be met for the first time in "My Last Boy," but regardless of that Arthur will always say "So what are these two doing here?" Could just be a small error made with the sequencing (in fact that's probably what it is), but coupled with the almost 100% definitive proof of a companion system and the fact that they can be "recruited" despite such a small window of time in the camp, it has at least a slim possibility. I'm not saying they were ever intended to have a larger role in the story, at most I figure they'd come and go, sort of like Trelawny. It would definitely make Dutch's decision to include them in on the last heist make more sense. Always thought it was odd he'd be okay with splitting the loot with two men who were strangers to the camp, friends of Micah or not.

Y'know, it's honestly a shame the companion feature was removed. It seems VERY complete. Like I said before, a friend of mine speculated it was because they couldn't finish it in time for release. Honestly, I hope that's not true, because while it does seem to need a little bit of polish, it seems in a complete enough state. Heck, I think most of us here and most of its fans would have preferred to have it in the base game and then polished up later on. That's how most games are now anyways, pushed out with features that are alright but need to be fixed up with patches later on, so we certainly wouldn't have minded a few bugs in the companion experience. I already felt really close to a lot of the characters in this game, but being able to roam around with them doing whatever would have strengthened that and given their roles in the story even more impact, to me at least. Hopefully a remaster or PC release retains this. Heck, I'd even be okay with them putting it in a patch later on, though I know how unlikely that is given their focus in online.

Never going to happen. If it releases on next gen it will be the exact same game but with new collectables and new OST arrangements

And the preorder bonus "mission" and war horse as part of the base game, don't forget those unbeatable features.

I had a link to a promotional image that almost stated that you could bring companions to 'help you', and it was pretty close to the release date.

My personal hope is that this feature is 'complete enough' for a modder to enable and finish it when the game comes out on PC.

It alludes to bringing gang members along in the Help section of the menu

Gang members could originally shave and change clothes but they only change clothes now.

Would have been interesting to see- speaking of which, I remember a second image of Bill without his beard- on Swanson's photo of the group on the stagecoach.

I also wonder if there's any leftover files regarding the Callender brothers and Jenny?

Something REALLY strange happened on 1.00 last night, I did record two videos but I haven't had time to go onto Xbox yet to upload them, but I will some time today.

Got arrested in ST Denis with a 50 dollar bounty, was expecting the cutscene with Hosea bribing the law to get me out. Instead I got a completely blank screen with Press X to break free and Press B to die prompts at the bottom of the screen. Never seen that before. I pressed X, and you had to tap it really fast for a LONG time, almost a full minute, but when I filled up the "bar" the game froze on that blank screen.

Press X to Break free? Press B to die? Did i just stumble upon some unfinished mechanic where your supposed to escape the law/a hanging? somehow?

Sorry, it was "Break free" not "escape"

Never played online yet, that's interesting. It's 1.00, could you hogtie at launch in MP or was it added later? I'm curious if my game glitched and read some MP code or if this is something for SP that doesn't work properly.

That is indeed the hogtie mechanic used in RDO. Strange that it would bleed into singleplayer, unless an NPC somehow managed to hogtie you?

The video doesn't show (because xbox can only record 30 second 4k clips) that I had just surrendered to the law in St Denis. I've never been hogtied in single player either.

Regarding the find of a Blackwater train station, Uncle actually mentions it in the mission where you go to buy the pre-cut house for Beecher's Hope in Epilogue Part 2.

@2:07

The Union Freight Depot also has a "Tickets" sign above where you use the post office on the outside of the building, which wouldn't make sense for a stagecoach.

Interesting, an unused dress for Molly. I wonder if she was supposed to be going to the party in Saint Denis? Would have made more sense than Bill Williamson.

Again, super curious in seeing if there are any other unused character models for characters mentioned but not seen.

Yep. Shows Arthur's beta Wittmore outfit and Sadie's beta Epilogue outfits.

True, but I think it would have been possibly a better character-building moment for Molly. Bill we know will never fit into high society, but Molly was from, or has aspirations to be treated like a high society lady.

Would have been interesting seeing that perception of herself come in contact, and possibly clash with the actual high society of Saint Denis.

Plus there's the whole vein of Irish cultural/racial pre-conceptions that existed in America at the time.
