*Early Game Spoilers* Question about avoiding an event (trapped woman) I'm not ready for

This thread will be about the first mission you do with Hosea when he asks you to go hunting and also I will mention an event that pops up right after you finish the mission with Hosea and how inconvenient it is and how I should resolve this... ok if that sounds like something you don't want to read then stop now...

So my question is after you do the hunting mission with Hosea, you have the option to stay or go home with him... I think it is safe to say 99.99999% of people playing decide to stay and hunt the bear since he isn't far off. So that is what I did, I found him and I killed him and then I skin him and load his pelt onto the horse then head south for the road since it is the only possible way to go unless you want to head north onto the train tracks. So without fail, after you kill this bear, the event for the woman trapped under the dead horse pops up. So now I am carrying my pelt and this lady needs help and a ride home and expects you to remove the pelt. I am OCD and want to complete everything so I want to keep the pelt and take the woman home... I even tried removing the pelt, letting her get on and i carry the pelt and walk and have the horse follow me. So this does not work and I load my game and try staying away from roads after I kill the bear and no matter where I go this lady and her event pops up. Im trying to make it to the trapper before I see her so I can make room on my horse. I actually loaded my game and did that mission several times because I am insisting on keeping that pelt AND saving her... how the heck do I do this? haha I even tried going home with Hosea and then I would wander around waiting for the woman's event and it would not pop up. That event only pops up after you kill the bear and you have a pelt stowed on your horse. Is this R* trying to force me to be greedy and leave her or be such a gentleman that I leave my pelt on the ground and take her home... I actually was going bonkers with how many times i played that mission and trying to get to the trapper without that woman popping up. Please help!

I got that event without the bear pelt. For me it happened the first time I rode out toward Emerald Ranch.

 

I think you just have crappy luck.

Exact same thing happened to me.  I lifted the horse off her but told her that she had to make her own way home.  I was not going to lose that bear skin.

thanks guys, i guess it was bad luck... I decided to hold off on killing the bear til later (and funny enough if i dont kill the bear and head towards the road, no event).

 

i noticed that event happened again near emerald ranch but this time i was carrying a buck lol, i felt bad leaving an animal i killed, i hope at least wolves came and ate it... but yeah you guys are right, thanks. I also didnt realize it was one of those random events and i love to do everything so I didnt want to just leave the lady haha, thanks again

So just to add a different perspective - I also encountered the lady under the horse on my way back after the Hosea bear mission.....but I hadn't hunted the bear afterwards (decided to leave that until later, when I'm more tooled up and better at hunting!) instead I'd just done some exploring around O'Creagh's Run. And so I was free to dutifully take her home to Annesburg (which was somewhere I had not intended to visit at that point in the game - hell, I hadn't even been to Valentine by that point!!)

 

So it definitely isn't tied to killing the bear - it's random, and you just kept getting super-unlucky by the sounds of things!
