TeaC3
So i played this game for a while on the PS4 Pro. This game looks very good, but i have read that the game has HDR problems. I played with HDR on the whole time, so i tried playing it with HDR off. Something that i noticed while playing with HDR On is, that the nights are not as dark as like in the trailers (i can see everything, doesn't feel very realistic tbh) I made two comparison pics, one with HDR on and one with HDR off. What do you guys think? HDR on/off comparison E•MO•TION
Mach1bud
Yeah it seems backwards tbh. Twitter - Instagram - Youtube - Social Club
Ash_735
HDR is broken in this game, sadly. It overblown the whites and brightness, it's best to stay on SDR for this game and hope Rockstar patch it in future.
TeaC3
Yeah, i will turn it off for now, until they hopefully fix it. volta2001 and E•MO•TION
volta2001
Thanks for the video. This is kind of a bummer. Makes me wonder if they can even fix it. Strange
Paper Mario
Could this eventually get fixed? I won't be playing until December. Is this a relatively easy thing to patch or would Rockstar need more time? I have no idea how complicated it all is.
Smokewood
I think the HDR pic looks better. Maybe you can turn down the HDR setting??? I have mine set at 130 in-game settings.
volta2001
I’ve been playing with it off today, it makes night a lot better. Deep blacks. I’m wondering if their implementation of fake hdr is a base PS4/Xbox limitation?

It's not, HDR isn't that taxing, just time consuming to grade properly, there's plenty of PS4 titles that have proper HDR (Spider Man, God of War, etc), as well as plenty of normal Xbox One S games that pass through HDR (Forza Horizon 4, etc), those will just cap out at 1080p but still handle the metadata for HDR10. It's just a mess up of Rockstar of passing the SDR through a HDR signal so there's NO gain but your TV will react to thinking it's getting a HDR signal. I have mine set at 130 in-game settings. It looks brighter overall, yes. But as you see, you lose alot of contrast and shadow details. I set my HDR option to 300, as this is recommended for Oled TVs. Going lower would also reduce the great brightness i have during daylight. At this point, its pretty much useless using HDR.
Edward Nashton
Does the game look washed out at times? I was watching a friend play on his UHDTV and at times it looked like the contrast or something was set a bit high. I'm not sure if it was just the weather in the game, like fog or mist. In SDR mode, its a bit more colourful and intense. Playing at HDR, it has more realistic colours, maybe thats what you are referring too? It does not have that usual "WOW" effect impact on the image quality like HDR on Spider-Man has. I dont mind the colours playing with HDR on, rather the great lose on shadow details and the overall brightness during nighttime.

Yes, the colors looked a bit muted compared to what I saw in trailers and clips online. Also, some colors weirdly popped put more than others, specifically the lavender flowers - like I said, I only watched/played the game for like 2 hours, so I'm not sure if it was a weather effect or something. But it's still a shame to hear that the HDR is all wonky. Hopefully they somehow fix it by the time I pick this game up.

Rusty James
During the day the higher contrast is worthy it. I turn the HDR off when the night comes.
