It's really annoying me now. i just spent my entire money paying off my bounty to then try to rob a train with my mask on, the law came and i killed a couple and now have a $200 bounty and i have $0 money left. How the f*ck do they know who i am? why do i get a bounty for defending myself? whatever little money i make is gone 20 fold when i kill one f*cking guy... i just can't god dam get anywhere and it's taking the piss big time. wtf is the point of the mask if they give me an instant bounty with it on?

Don't kill cops. Run away.

Not kidding, it says this in the official strategy guide.

How to not get bounty in general though when doing other crimes? if i rob a guy and get more bounty than i robbed whats the point?

You need to do it without witnesses.

But if it's specifically about the train robbery, it's possible since you don't have the whole map unlocked and you're auto-wanted in the West it's by design.

I gave up being a criminal, its just not worth it. When you got backstabbed by bounty hunters with a buttload of perfect skins on your horse you happily pay that bounty and try to not piss off anyone ever again. sadly. If you need money, the main story should provide enough.

to use the mask properly you would need to change horse to a completely new one that noone saw before and also your clothes. otherwise they are like "look, its that arthur idiot with a scarf in his face"...

Yes that's part of the story. Everyone gets a bounty from that mission.

There are some missions which bug out when you stay too long or loot ANY body after the mission is over. Usually you want to get all the goodies from the dead people you killed on the mission and that causes the bounty most of the times. I had this happen at several occasions.

Usually, main story quests bring ALOT of money and you don't always get a bounty. So just play some main story quests and you can pay off that bounty occasionally.

I was wanted with 200< Dollars in 4 countries and was always interrupted trying to hunt legendary animals, so I actually paid almost 1000 Dollar back in Bounties. Yeah it sucks and it feels cheap but hey, that's the game ...

Got attacked in the saloon in Valentine. NPC's decided I didn't belong there and opened fire. Shot them all and then a witness came in. Had to shoot him too, left without witnesses alive and ......., $45 bounty on my head.

I didn't do nuthin'!

Sometimes the bounty feels unfair. Most of the time, I might have deserved it. And the lecturing from Dutch and mrs Grisham too....

I’m still waiting to pay off a $200 bounty from a main story mission lmao

Sell coaches and horses? Coaches pay pretty good. Or surrender when you get busted. With few money in the bags, that's what they'll take and your bounty is done for.

Does everyone get a $300 bounty from the Micah mission like I did?

Yes, it seems to be automatic. I tried like hell to avoid it - I reloaded before the break-out, parked my horse nearby (it despawns during a cut scene, no chance of just running away), changed my clothes AND put on the executioner's hood. No dice, still got a $300 bounty and had to pay it off to return to Strawberry.  Ugggghhhh, Micah!

Generally I like that they are going for more realism and consequences compared to GTA or even RDR, but this system is pretty unforgiving.  It's hard to be an outlaw when all your outlaw activities will make existing in the world annoying.  Now, you CAN just go around with a bounty on you - I had $185 on me in New Hanover for a long while and it didn't stop me from hunting and stuff, or even visiting Valentine.  But I did get accosted here and there by bounty hunters, and the one time I fought back it just made my bounty worse.  I ended up going on a gold bar hunt to get the cash to pay the bounty off.

I hope one of their patches is to tone down the system by about 25%.  Hopefully it's something that they can easily tune.  Crimes should be witnessed a little less often, and using masks or bandanas and then taking them off should be a little more effective, IMO.  Also, this is not something they can just tune, but I'd like it if there was another way to clear smaller bounties. For instance, anything under $100 should go away on its own if you aren't spotted in that area by either a bounty hunter or a lawman for a certain number of game days, and don't commit another crime that increases the bounty.  That would give you a non-pocket-emptying way to get out from under some of that damn debt.

Shadowfennekin

Hopefully the upcoming patch(whenever that'll be) fixes this.

It's just not fun getting a multi-hundred dollar bounty for simply doing a story mission. I don't even like Micah, I'd have happily let him rot in that cell if it let me.

The Valentine one I can understand as you never put on the bandanna.... but Micah's just f*cking ridiculous. Had to get a gold bar just to pay it off in order to sell the white cougar pelt there for a loan shark mission.

There's nothing to fix, it clearly was done intentionally.  I agree that it's not fun and wish you could avoid it, but that particular bounty is basically part of the story.

Yeah I was stalking the horse of my dreams and I was so close to it without spooking it. At the time I thought the only way to catch a horse was to lasso it and then tame it but this horse was so magnificent I tried the call out option and horse stopped then I jumped off my horse and continued calming the horse through the interaction menu. I got within several feet and then the bounty hunters showed up and the horse ran away. I was furious and told myself I'm never letting a bounty hang over my head if I'm hunting or just exploring. They always come in the least opportune moment

This probably doesn't help much but stay at thieves landing and van horn. Both towns have no law. Enjoy!

All the way to the east, by the ocean.

Pretty much exactly directly east from Valentine.

What if I just lasso a cop out of his horse, will I still get the same bounty as if I killed him?

I haven't had time to try this yet.

My Arthur doesn't let a bounty bother him.

"I got shot gun shells with those bounty hunter boys names on'em" (Said in Arthur's voice).

I'm saying and reading a lot of stuff in Authur's voice these last few days.

Seriously though, as you progress a little further into the story, loot and hunt plenty, do some missions, rob some folk, maybe find some treasure.... Paying the bounties becomes less of a big deal. Of course you can just follow my lead and waste every bounty hunter that dares try his luck.

Yeah... I'm pretty immersed. 😀

Bandana is still useless regardless.

Hop on a train unseen, bandana on, stealth kill one lone guy with a knife, everyone knows it was me despite the train being long gone from where his body fell, every guard on the train seeing right through my mask. Automatic 50$ bounty.

Obviously have to run because murdering more guys to even allow me to take anything will just rocket my bounty into the 300 range, and I'm doubtful the train would have even given me 100

The crimes this game teaches you to commit are pretty pointless

I agree the system is unfair in some ways. Having to change my horse and all my clothes in towns that still recognize me even if I have the bandana on is a little too much. I noticed people haven't talked about how the bandana doesn't even stop you from gaining or losing honor like in RDR1 to my knowledge. I tried to using it to commit crimes thinking my honor wouldn't go down but it still did. So the bandana really is useless lol

Well I think (though I am not certain of this) that the honor stat in this game is a little different.  Honor in RDR is basically just reputation - what random people know you for.  Honor in RDR2 seems more like Arthur's personal goodness or badness, with the bounty system taking care of the reputation end of things.

You basically said the same thing only differently. In RDR1 it was reputation like you said and it is the same for RDR2. The whole personal goodness and badness is the same in both games as well. Like not sure what you were trying to say lol because it means the same thing in both games. Do bad things get low honor. Do good things get high honor. I don't see any difference between the two games other than the fact that wearing a bandana doesn't prevent you from losing and gaining honor.

I don't understand your confusion.  I'm suggesting that maybe honor in RDR2 is NOT reputation.  That's just a measurement of your actions and whether they are more good than bad, or vice versa.  Therefore wearing a bandana wouldn't affect it, because it's not dependent on whether people see you doing it or not.

now an even more retarded thing just happened. I'm in town and 3 guys attack me some sort of gang, i defend myself and kill them then get called a murderer and have 10 lawmen chase me down and kill me... wtf is this sh*t? even in movies etc if someone is attacked and kills them they don't get punished wtf? i got these options? die, run away prob die, fight back then law kill me and get bounty... this game is starting to feel f*cking retarded now.
