Can you use the melee knife on horseback?

In the previous Red Dead Redemption game, you could slash with your hunting knife while on horseback. I can see you can pull your knife out while on horseback in this game, but haven't found a way to actually attack with it. Does anyone know if you can use your knife or hatchet on horseback? Yes I know you can use throwing knives; I'm talking about melee. TBH using the knife on horseback was one of my favorite features of the last game; it was hilarious being able to wreck people online by riding by and slashing them. I will be very disappointed if that isn't possible in this game.

I tried doing that myself earlier as i remember trying to kill cougars and bears like that in the first red dead and i had no response. When i had no weapon equipped, i could kick but not use the knife in any way unfortuanelty so don't think it's possible unless I'm missing something
