Add FAST WALK outside camp/houses for more immersion

Before this dissapears i wanna edit it and go for the essential part:  the fast walk.

I want to play as slow and steady as R* intended and for doing so i need to have another walking speed because i dont wanna run towards my horse from 5 meters away. but i'd love to hurry to the horse via fast walk.   probably added via tap x/a  for fast walking and double tap x/a for running.

old post:

First off: the camp is the camp, of course i would appreciate the slow jogging (pushing the stick forwad slighty while holding X/A outside camp) as an X/A tapping speed, but hey, thats the pace of the game, on the other side: i want that fast walk outside the camp!

I dont really like the way we can control the movement speed. i cannot have a nice realistic flow.  in a situation where sh*t is going to hit the fan and the others are already telling me to move up fast, i still can only walk??? not even fast walk?

Stickwalking is slow but its ok, its the pace of the game. What i dont like is that if i start running (hold or toggle X/A) its already to fast for certain situations. Another thing is indoors, why cant we walk as fast indoors as in the camp, at least (*edit*: oh, we can.)?

may solution to this:

add the fast walk from the camp to the normal routine:  its activated if you only hold X, but if you want to run you have to double tap and hold. or any other speed between walking and running, it doesnt even have to be the fast walk, it can be the slow jogging (which we have if we only push the stick gently, but it wont start with this animation, the character boosts off and than becomes slower again which is not nice to watch. he should accelerate slower!

tl:dr:   add one more step between walk and run! (those running speeds exist in game, its just not executed well)

Oh and:  If you don't like that, it can always be an optional thing.  (activate advanced movement or something like that)

Yeah I really don't like how the game controls your movements in certain situations. I understand you shouldn't run around in camp or in buildings, but why would they make it impossible, and why do you walk so painfully slow as well? Same in missions, the game completely takes control over your movements in some situations, if you go too fast the game will slow you down to painful speeds, for example when you drive the horse drawn wagon into Valentine, when you reach the town you simply can't go faster than walking speed.  In other missions the game will constantly steer you towards the objective over your control, even pull out a specific weapon for you, all this makes it feel too scripted and annoying.

This game is phenomenal, but the spontaneous fun and response gameplay isn't there in missions. RDR 1 never took control over you movements, and didn't feel nearly as scripted in missions, this game has much better variety in them though.

What is especially annoying is how sometimes when I'm on a mission with my horse, they severely limit your movement speed so you can only walk with the horse for like 30 seconds to a minute.

This goddamn mechanic has made me crash my horse so many times. Constantly steers me into trees and other people for no reason

I'm with you on this. Why the hell can you not run in camp or buildings? Seems like such an idiotic decision on Rockstar's part. All it is is annoying ... and incredibly so I might add. In a game that took the time to ensure that the animations for you and/or your horse walking down a steep slope looked jusssst right it's pretty shocking that it was decided not to let you run in the situations mentioned.

I was just thinking this on my last mission. It's annoying I can't control my speed half the game. Game design 101 teaches devs not to allow the player to lose control for to long lol.

Me too, but I really wouldn't mind having the fast walk outside of camp.

Same. None of what's mentioned here bothers me, but I would love the fast walk outside of camp. And what's this about the game steering you towards objectives during missions? If that's happening to me I haven't noticed.

Like what? If you like to walk slowly in camp, in buildings or enjoy driving very slow through towns, fine but the fact that it is forced is not fine. There is nothing to like about it since you could still do it even if it wasn't forced, sorry to say but it is just bad design.

I do not have any issues with the controls, never crashed my horse or anything, always managed to jog or run when necessary so I don't see.

I do agree about having the fast walk.

Yeah we could definitely do with the quicker walk being able to be used outside the camp.

I don't mind the slow pace and quite enjoy walking everywhere rather than running like a mad man, but it seems weird that there's no in between option.

i edited the topic because thats actually all i want. a fast walk outside camp/houses.  i also hate how he bursts off (goes from fast walking to running) after leaving a house with fast walking, it can be deadly.

Well, I think you can jog if you just hold the X-button (PS4) and push the left stick gently forward, and not all the way up. It's still faster than the fast walk in camp though. But it's slower than sprinting at least.

I like that it is forced. Otherwise I would probably run around and ruin for myself because I have zero self control. Because it's forced I can stay immersed without having to actively think about it. That's just my opinion and I know it's not a common one.

I agree with everyone though, I want the fast walk outside of camp.

i am absolutely with you about the zero self control. i wouldnt walk in missions if i wouldnt have to but i totally enjoy it.

Yes, that's what I do and it's good you bring that up because I'm not sure if many players realized that.

i know it, but its very unsmooth, you cannot start slowly.  also, i push the stick full way for walking and if i wanna be a little faster i dont want to release the stick. i really want to know why they decided to make it the way it is. it doesnt help me in fights, i could always choose to tap for a fast starting sprint. the way it is just makes this „perfect“ game unperfect.

i am either to slow or to fast. only because of this strange transition from relaxed walking to full running.

You can start slowly, you need to push the stick gently.
