Frigid1984
I think I am either dumb or this just doesnt make sense. To get some of the weapons, you must first find them in the world. like Robbing Valentine doctor which has a new revolver in the back room. Once you do then it unlocks at the gun smith for purchase. BUT!!! if I found it in the world, so I have it and dont need to buy it... am I missing something... or do you really never have to buy a new weapon, even though they sell them.... seegkilla
Weapon are unlocked at specific part of the story not by finding them Barry Spock
Hugef1
Not strictly true, seegkilla. Many guns ARE given out in missions, but some you have to find in random places (e.g. the viking stuff) or random events (e.g. in a particular gunsmiths)
Frigid1984
That is correct. Most unlock during the story after completing a specific mission. However that mission also gives the weapon (if you find it), then it is unlocked. That is according to the game guide. I guess the gun smith is there if you do not pick up the item or miss it during that mission. 2 examples are the Doctor in Valentine and the quest that takes you to the secluded house in the mountains with one of the camp members. I cant remember his name but it gives you the pump action shot gun, IF you find it in the home stead. It makes sense somewhat from a gating point of view, since there are no levels like a traditional RPG to distribute loot. This method stops you from just saving money early on and buying the best rifle and have nothing to unlock later on. I just found it odd, that to buy it, you must first obtain it.. or atleast do the mission you "should" obtain it in.
NoEasyDay
I agree. That doesn't really make much sense and you are correct about the way it works. Another unintuitive mechanic is how sometimes the game gives and takes away certain guns. It makes sense from a story perspective that some missions you are given certain weapons, but at one point I had 3 different pistols and now I have 1. I never dropped or intentionally stored any of them, they were just removed from my inventory. I get that I can just go re equip them, I guess at the gunsmith? Its just kinda strange that the game seems to give and take weapons at a whim.
Satanta
I bought the Semi-Auto shotgun early in, right after reaching Valentine. A few days later I bought a set of Schofield revolvers after getting the second weapon carry. . Then I bought a Double action-was going to carry a SF and DA for different purposes as the stats are just different enough to give an edge one over the other in some situations. THEN after going to the lakeside camp in Rhodes, I visited Valentine and got the mssg about the Docs office. Went in and found the Revolver-disappointing. Both the Semi-Auto and DA are no longer in my weapon wheel or anywhere to be found-as hard as it is to make $$ I'm not sure I *want* to buy more guns especially since I had upgraded both of the weapons now missing along with the SF's. Are you sure they arent stored in your horses inventory? If you purchased and upgraded them, that's where they will be. If they're not, thats a bug and you should contact rockstar support about it. Flannelmagic1
When do you unlock the Bolt Action Rifle? I'm early on at chapter 3 and still can't buy it.

Actually, you can unlock it VERY soon. If you get a mission from Lenny in Chapter 3, do that one. It's actually a pretty fun shootout. You dont unlock viking stuff, you find them. Locked weapons will remain locked even if found in the world.
