Does the bandana even do anything?

Seems like when you commit crimes even with it on, you still get identified and lose honor. Isn't the entire point of it to prevent that?

EDIT: I've read that you have to pretty much change your entire appearance (Hat, clothes, etc) and even your horse to things the town hasn't seen Arthur wear in order to not have a bounty and prevent honor loss. Is there truth to that?

Well it's been like that for me. Even when i committed a crime and hid, my horse ran past the witness when i whistled for it and then the witness somehow knew i was the one who did the crime despite not seeing me. I think the bandana is meant to not have people identify for crimes but a lot of the time, Arthur takes his bandana off (From my experience)

I think you lose honor regardless if you are wearing it or not.

Changing your clothes, changing your hair and beard, and wearing a mask or bandana are the things that affect it.

It just makes witnesses less likely to identify you when they see you again.

Early on in the game I found that I'd get a bounty on me after pretty much any story related shoot out. If I stuck around to loot the bodies a witness would pop up super far away (no way the saw me) and it would say "investigating". I'd try to ride away but I'd be full on Wanted once the witness finds a body. Seems they often don't actually need to see you anyway.

Allegedly having to change every aspect of your character for it to even slightly potentially make a difference.

Hardly fun.

Same with getting shot up in town for standing next to a guy, shooting him in defense, and having yet another bounty placed on you.

I think some of the mechanics aren't exactly working as intended tbh

Yea I got pissed off earlier when I was trying to help a guy from getting mugged. I fist fought two bad guys, and apparently killed one. Some witness walked up and I randomly got a murder wanted level for $35. I'm early in the game and just bought my new horse saddle, etc and have no money to pay it off. Very annoying since I was helping someone. This system need adjustment.

I antagonized someone in Valentine and walked away and equipped a handgun (didn't even aim) and the guy started shooting at me. Got a 'disturbing peace' charge on me or something like that and when I ran away, got a bounty placed on me.

Retarded system. Needs to be patched ASAP.

They're not going to "patch" the system because I'm pretty sure it's functioning the way they intended.

You started it though. You absolutely started it. And you escalated it. Right in the middle of town where everyone could see you. You did exactly what you were charged for.

Tell me what you gonna think if someone talks some sh*t to you then walks a few paces away and pulls out their gun

The more I free roam and interact, the more I get used to this new system. I take back what I said.

I have a $300 bounty on me already in New Hanover.

How am I supposed to pay it off? Is there any other way? As I don't have the cash - I'm about 7 hours in (just got the fishing rod).

I had that happen after a mission. (trying not to give too many spoilers)  It took some time but I paid it off by hunting and selling to the trapper, and selling loot to the fence.  Somehow, during the whole time, I didn't get tracked nor arrested.  After that I figured out that treasure hunting is your best bet to make large sums quickly.  There is a post on this forum telling you where to find a gold bar.

Tempted to do the gold glitch, just get a small amount of cash to pay off bounty and upgrade the camp.

I think this is the only part of the game that is ruining the whole thing for me. Getting bounties for literally everything even when there’s no one around.

I’ve stopped doing any of the random encounters cos at this point all they’re doing is costing me money.

Now if I get a bounty I’m just quitting and restarting the whole game.

I don’t mind getting bounties for committing actual crimes but getting a $35 bounty just because my horse slightly bumped into someone??? That’s dumb.

And then I have to travel 300 miles to the next town to pay it off cos I can’t get to the nearest post office without getting shot.

Apparently you can also surrender to a Sherriff and that wipes your bounty clean too...

If you leave town when you're wanted, and return when it has calmed down, go up to a Sherriff and antagonise him, then quickly surrendour, this wipes the slate clean (apparently).

Will try tonight.

On principle I cannot surrender to law enforcement.  Thanks though.

I decided to do a little trainrobbing on my own, so I put on the Bandana and went to work.

I now have a $500 bounty in Lemoyne.

Are the masks better?

This also wipes away all of the cash you have.

Walk into valentine, get randomly shot up by 4 odriscolls unprovoked, shoot back in self defence, a disturbing the peace charge for $15. Decide to surrender they charge me $12

It's either die, or bounty..

How easy it is to catch a charge, bandana or not, and then how annoying it is to remove the bounty while it still racks itself up for everything..

It's honestly stupid, and not fun.

Shadowfennekin

It just has to be glitched.

I never did anything in Strawberry and I was literally identified as Arthur Morgan and had a $250 bounty after a certain mission there. It was total bullsh*t.... then the same happened during some major robbery missions.

And full on masks don't work either! I tried....

I really hope they fix this cause it makes the actual crime part of the game NOT fun. Rob a store for $20, get a $40 bounty on your head..... then we have the OP terminator bounty hunters that aren't even fair. They have GTA V level of accuracy!

Don't tell me the wanted system is GTA V all over again? I wonder if the animals report you again this time? Downgrade over RDR wanted system?

^ Just so you guys know, this is information directly out of the strategy guide.

In other words, it does not mean people won't recognize you later. It doesn't mean you won't get a bounty on your head. The game is smarter than that. It makes it less likely for NPCs/cops to notice you when they see you again. That's all. It doesn't work like it did in RDR1.

I accidentally rode into some NPC who was walking, which made me Wanted. Lots of red dots appeared and started shooting at me, so I fired back to prevent from dying. Eventually I escaped but got a $85 bounty to pay off. Just for accidentally riding into someone, lol.

I agree this system can make things get out of hand quickly, making it expensive or just more difficult - and a lot of what happens appears to do so by pure chance. But I wouldn't say "they should patch it", in part because patching doesn't work like that lol, but also because this is exactly what makes it fun! The chance encounters, etc. It'll certainly take some getting used to though. For example, I've become much more careful as to where and how I ride my horse. I can't just penetrate through like a tank. And that's a good thing, I think.

So far, the wanted system (and the bandana) seems to work as it should. If I commit a crime, there will be the "Wanted"-meter, but the difference being that authorities can't identify me. So as long as I don't get seen wearing the bandana, I can just ride off, wait for the meter to drain fully, and then take off the bandana and ride into the nearest town..
