What animals attack or hunt the player?

I came across some wild boar today but they did not attack me. Only animals that attacked me so far were wolves and that was in the early mission and a random event. Bison don't seem dangerous either?

The only other animal that attacked me was alligator but only because I tried to jump over it. It did not come for me before that when though I was close. Do they hunt you?

The only other animal I died to was a horse that kicked me In the face twice during a shootout...

What animals have attacked you so far and what animals tried to hunt you?

Likely a badger.

The Legendary Bear will attack you, Funny that. It killed me once in the wee hours of the morning real life time, during my first battle with it.

Western Diamond Rattlesnakes will attack you if you get too close, and the poison will keep draining your health core for a while.

I was wading through the water just now and I got pulled under by an alligator and instantly died. So I guess that confirms that!  Didn't even get to see the gator haha..

Haven't got attacked yet by other animals though. Then again i have not run in to any predators yet in free roam.

I encountered wild boar and bison few times but they have not attacked yet.

I encountered a possum which actually played possum for a while which was cool.

Found and shot 2 alligator snapping turtles but did not check if they attack you when comping close.

Saw a water snake in the bayou but there were 3 alligators in the water near it so I couldn't get to it.

Definitely loving the hunting and exploring though.

SaturdayNight

Got rammed by a cow when i hopped someone's fence.  Got killed by two kicks from random horses while attempted to steal from their saddlebags.

Off topic but i also saw an eagle swoop and pick up a smaller animal, my jaw dropped.

Sounds cool I just got chases by 3 wolves out of the forest. It was intense. First I started to hear the howling from a distance and my horse started to get all skittish. Then I started to hear the barking and they came after me out of the forest. My horse bolted and I managed to shoot one before it bucked me off. I then killed the other 2 wolves. Was very cool.

I also got hit like truck by a timber rattle snake. Still going to need to get an antidote for it . I was running through some bushes and suddenly fell hard

Where did you guys get attacked by cougars/Panthers? Haven't seen any yet

When it comes to non-predatory animals, I've been charged down by an Angus Ox, headbutted by an Alpine Goat, and have been bitten by an American Muskrat. The first is territorial (entering its pen), the second is a bit unknown to me (only happened once so far), and the last seems to be upon startling the animal.

That's good stuff to know cryptreaper. Cool to hear that even not so dangerous animals can attack when threatened.

I just tested if alligator snapping turtles bite you but it seems not. That being said this one was on the move.

Also found a large coyote pack of about 5. I assume they attack you when  on foot? Anyone can confirm? They ran away from me as I was on horse back.

Got attacked by a wild boar today. I gored me once and then ran off.

Also ran in to a black bear for the first time. It ran off but I was on horse back.

Also heard my first mountain lion but didn't see it.

A muskrat or something called that actually bit me.

A pack of 4 coyotes ran away from me when i was on foot.

I have been attacked by Snakes, Bears, Cougars, Panthers, alligators, a muskrat so far. I would reckon that bulls probably attack you. All coyotes have ran away from me and so have boars. Haven't seen any wolves so far.

Male goats, deers, elks etc. attack you if go near them on foot.

Goats...
Not kidding. Came across a goat farm last night. Farmer was giving me crap and started shooting (not sure what I'd done wrong), so I killed him. His goats attacked me.

Good stuff so we know now that most larger herbivores can be dangerous.

Anyone been attacked yet by coyotes?

So far, every coyote I've come across just ran away from me, which is weird. I'd expect a pack of coyotes to be quite a threat. I've also tried to agitate the Alligator Snapping Turtle to absolutely no luck.

The bulls are referred to as a breed of oxen in the game, and yes, they charge you. Cows will also stampede and run you over, but that seems to unintentional on their part.

Oddly, though, the game doesn't seem to allow Arthur to reliably punch cows (it works fine on bulls/oxen though). Amusingly, I tried to punch a cow that left its pen, and Arthur instead kicked somebody's cat to death (that I didn't even see there), whom was in the process of using a fence as a scratching post.

The people in Red Dead Redemption 2 are very territorial and quite serious about what they deem as trespassing. Even trying to peacefully defuse the situation still often results in you getting shot at. People especially get defensive over their camping spots. Meanwhile, it wasn't uncommon for strangers to invite you over to their camping spot in the previous title. That might just be a design decision based on narrative on the protagonist. Arthur isn't meant to be painted as much of a meritorious man as John Marston.

So we can confirm that the following species can attack you:

Grizzly bears

Alligators

Wolves

Cougar

Panthers

Muskrat

Wild boar

Dogs

Horses

Bulls

White tail deer buck

Bull elk

Bighorn sheep

The different species of rattle snakes.

Assumed they do but need to confirm???

- moose

- buffalo/bison

- black bear

- copperhead snakes

- questionable???

-coyotes

- juvenile alligators

- raccoons

-foxes

- badgers

- non venomous land snakes

-watersnakes including the cottonmouth

- alligator snapping turtles

Is there any I missed? Anyone has more info to share about those I did not confirm yet?

I still find it weird that coyotes even in pack of 5 do not attack??

Also alligator snapping turtles and cottonmouths not attacking is also strange!

I can confirm that the Moose, Bison, Raccoon and Badger can attack players, as I saw some videos of them (and encountered them in my playthroughs as well).

What I would like to know is : does the Collared Peccary charges you in the same way that the Wild Boar can ?

Rodents like badger, beaver and also muskrat can and usually will attack you, especially the beaver and the muskrat. Armadillo, possums, skunks and rabbits are harmless. Raccoon has never attacked me, they always flee.

Smaller carnivores like foxes, coyotes, and also black bear will shy away and never attack (your horse will be afraid of the black bear but ignore the others).

Reptiles are a little bit different, they are a usually passive. Small alligators will flee, big ones will remain placid but will attack you if you get too close. Non-venomous snakes won't attack, rattlesnakes, cottonmouths usually trying to escape, but if you get too close, they will warn and eventually attack you. Your horse will flee from them. Iguanas and gila monsters flee as well (I was never attacked by them).

Big predators like the grizzly, wolves, cougars and panthers will actively hunt, charge and attack you if they get your scent. Also, gunshots will likely draw them to you and provoke them to attack.

In case of herbivores, they don't attack but rather try to flee, like deer, pronghorn, whitetail buck. They are not dangerous. Bigger herbivores like bison, elk, bighorn ram and moose (although moose rarely attacks) will flee but have a tendency to attack you in the process (especially the ram). They will ram you so you will get to the ground; usually they run away after that, except the ram which has the tendency to repeat it. Wild boars and peccaries never attacked me, they are always running away.

Farm animals are mixed, sheep are harmless, roosters can attack, goat is the same as the bighorn ram. Cows, oxen and bulls are the same as the other big herbivores.

I once chased down a black bear and was punking on it until it suddenly took a swipe at me and killed me in one hit.

Sometimes a fox will chase me down and start barking at me and following me, and appears as hostile on my radar but does not attack

I've gotten attacked by a Raccoon a couple times but its rare

This also happens with coyotes but it's rare af, maybe if we manage to stand still near a coyote eventually triggers his hostility, I don't know.

It's always randomly when I'm riding by, surprises me. I hang out with the little guy when they do that, can't bring myself to kill them

Damn near every animal in the game will attack you.

Not all will "hunt" you of course, but go try and just touch an elk, and see what happens.

Very early on, I was down near the river below the Valentine camp. My horse threw me, and the next thing a buck came out of nowhere and headbutted me. Went A over K down a stony slope. Funniest thing ever. Never happened since.
