Sebor
We read in previews that any animal you should and leave behind will slowly decompose. Seems this feature is actually not in the game? kasa

Sebor
I didn't actually wait I left the area for about 10 min and then came back. Skinned bison corpse was gone
Kirsty
It does happen, I just think it depends where you leave it perhaps, if its on your person or if you just leave the area. I got a blip that the meat would slowly ruin when I first stowed a deer on my horse. As I travelled around, more and more flies started to buzz around it. So I haven't tested how far it actually decays but the detail is there. GN 92
Sonny_Black
Didn't tried, but maybe it is actually working for non-skinned carcasses. caiaof

Algonquin Assassin
Just now, Sebor said: I'm specifically referring to animals left for dead in the wilds. The only way I guess to test it is to set up camp nearby and sleep to advance time.
oCrapaCreeper
I saw a decomposed deer in the mountains, the message said that it couldn’t be skinned because of that. shackled_rosati

Seems this feature is actually not in the game? Currently, I've had no large animal (that I've killed) remain and decompose in the wild. A few times, I've trampled rabbits and so have left them in the wild. I've had a few of them decompose and it also seems that being eaten (by crows) advances the decomposition process from what I've seen. I've also seen a decomposing horse and deer but i think that they were static encounters, like rotten corpses that were forced to spawn there to make the game seem realistic. (I say this because the rotten horse I've seen was actually standing completely upright like a normal horse while having gaping wounds in it and flies buzzing around it) I think it's a feature that only takes place really when you remain in close proximity to the kill. Sebor
Perhaps the key is not to skin the animal?
SeniorDerp
My horse stayed dead in a road way and decomposed for about 4 in game days. I was all over the SE side of the map and it still stayed there Penicuikscotland2010
Lock n' Stock
I haven't seen anything like this, but I have noticed that bodies tend to stay in the same place if you've travelled a fair distance from them.

I killed two deer, and while skinning the second, vultures or crows had started to eat the remains of the first.

Nutduster
I know they decompose on your horse slowly. I would doubt that the game is capable of tracking each individual carcass of every dead animal and NPC in the entire game - that's a LOT of bodies to render. They must despawn eventually. Ahick420
So I shot a guy off his horse in the woods on a trail. Looted him and his horse had run way off. Went after his horse to loot it, chased it a bit. Ended up shooting it. Well there was another person that had come down the trail and was a witness to animal cruelty so they road off to report me. I chased them down a ways and passed 2 other guys on horses down the trail and eventually caught and shot the guy. So then I road back to find horse and loot it and to my surprise it was still there with a crow on it. Then I road further back and found the first guy I had shot being picked at by crows and a good amount of time had passed and I had road fairly far away and engaged in activities and other npc's and come by. This game is pretty amazing! wxflurry

It might seem so, but in reality it should not be very much processing power at all. And only very little memory as the amount of data to store is minimal (as long as animal remains do eventually disappear after a certain period of in-game time). R*Phenomenon
Dont know if this is on-topic, but when you hogtie a npc and just leave him hogtied wil he die eventually? or even stay where you left him or her? I often leave witnesses hogtied and never found one back sofar (didnt search very well either though) so im kinda curious.
wxflurry
I think they'd disappear, personally. Though it would be cool if they didn't. Only one way to find out though Edited October 31, 2018 by wxflurry
