RDR2 has its own endangered species. In the same way that you could make the Bison become extinct in RDR1, you can make the Carolina Parakeet become extinct in RDR2.

After you find and kill the first Parakeet, you will unlock a secret sidequest, and after you finish the sidequest the Carolina Parakeet will be extinct, in the same way that they sadly are in real life.

When looting a dead horse you can only search one saddlebag, even when lassoing the horse and turning it the other side, you can’t loot the second saddlebag unfortunately... I wish you could

Something that I found out yesterday that surprised me.

I was heading to a mission marker of Sadie Adler.

A couple of blocks away from the mission marker, I ran into a "random event" where some gang tried to rob me. So I got in a fist fight with them, which then turned into a gun fight against this gang, which then also got the police involved because I obviously became Wanted.

Well, while this whole fight was going on, I notice that out of nowhere, Sadie and Dutch came to help me out. They helped me fight and shoot the gang.

This is the first time it happened to me that companions got involved in a random freeroaming event not part of an actual mission. So apparently it's a thing that can happen.

And sure enough, when I later headed to the mission marker (after losing the Wanted Level), the mission start was by meeting Dutch and Sadie in the saloon.

It's if like Dutch and Sadie characters were actually inside the nearby saloon waiting for me to start the mission, but they dynamically heard gunshots, got out of their mission marker, and came to help me out. Left me really amazed.

Watch out for lanterns during the day, they will blow up if shot even if not lighted before. You can use it to your advantage in gunfights.

I was in cover behind some crates and the lantern was directly above my head... you can imagine the outcome... :D

You can't lasso a gator :(

I started up a game of poker really late at night because I was tired of playing with the same three gang members. Ended up playing against Susan, but she has Lenny's picture on the bottom left of the screen

The bear from the mission "A Really Big Bastard" is probably Brumas the legendary bear from RDR.

Who do you usually play against? When I first played it was Uncle, Lenny and Strauss. Never did get to play Strauss again, but the next few games had Uncle, Pearson and Lenny, and then the last times I played (which was in Clemens Point) it was the same, except with John instead of Lenny. Didn't know Susan was a possibility (Even if she does have Lenny's picture, haha). Did she say anything?

I've also played Five Finger Fillet against Sadie, Javier and Micah (which kinda makes his "companion activity" pointless if you ask me), and dominoes against Hosea, Mary-Beth and Abigail. Heard some neat things during all of those, too. During a conversation with Mary-Beth the subject of that flower next to Arthur's bed comes up, and apparently he keeps it because it reminds him of his mother. If I remember right he says it only grows around Oregon or California, so he always tries to pick one up when he's out that way. I remember after my first playthrough thinking that playing dominoes with Hosea was a companion activity because of the conversation that occurred during it.

Yeah I only got to play against Strauss once myself.

I beat him the first time we played and just assumed he was a sore loser or that he felt it was simply a bad investment lol

Not that I think he's a real person that has thoughts or emotions, but rather they programed him that way

If you draw your off-hand gun then select duel wield Arthur will put his hands together to trade the "off-hand" gun to his left hand and then pull his primary out with his right. It was a neat little animation to see, it really showed how you designate a certain gun to a certain hand/holster.

It's usually Uncle, John, and Lenny. It was John, Strauss, and Susan last night. Doesn't seem like you can bluff Susan. She comments that she can read you like an open book, and plays that way

I played quite a bit of poker in camp in various chapters and always played against Uncle, John and Lenny. How do you play against someone else?????

Nice info 😉

I'll have to check that out, I never played against her. Mostly because I didn't play a lot of poker on my first play.

She sounds like a real challenge.

Thanks, gonna try that.

So far Uncle seems to be insanely lucky when I play against him. John sucks and Lenny plays as tight as it gets.

That's about right. Susan is more skilled. It seems she taught some of the boys how to play poker in the first place. I'd hate to have to try and bust both her and uncle out in the same game

I like how every player plays differently.  Like John won't ever bluff, he only bets if he has something and almost always folds if he doesnt, like he doesn't really understand how to play poker, but knows the rules

Have to put this in spoiler tags because of the subject but it is funny as hell because of the reaction from the NPCs when you do it lol...

You can shoot the ropes off of serial killers victims.

Then rope and drag the remains on foot or by horseback into towns.

When you do, everyone freaks out badly.

...with the exception of Lawmen

I'm talking about town/city clearing bad lol

Don't worry you don't get wanted if you want to give this a try, but some of the reaction are comical gold.
It's especially funny in Saint Denis.

If you have a save before you found the last one I urge you to give it a try

It is pure Mayhem

Edit... here is a small clip of how the folks in the city of Valentine reacted, but Saint Denis is still better because of the amount of NPCs lol...

Another weird place you can sit: The broken bridge between the Great Plains and Big Valley,  on the Great Plains side

There are locations referenced that are not in the game, for instance I just heard an NPC in Blackwater  say his train broke down near Six Owls and he had to walk in the muck. There isn't a location called Six Owls though.

There is a place in Blackwater where Arthur can walk around with a cup of coffee,  right next to the Big Mill Construction foreman across from the lot were the bank hasn't been built there's some coffee set up on the ground and you can walk around Blackwater drinking coffee.

You can find beer and whiskey to walk around with in Van Horn, the whiskey is in the burned out law office, and the beer is in the Blackley hotel upstairs room

Had a man at a campfire in New Austin tell me about Red Harlow, and basically summed up the story of Red Dead Revolver in like two sentences.

Finding an Orchid counts towards the "15 different species of herb" when doing herbalist challenge 6

If you antagonize Sadie enough she'll punch you in the face.

Certainly not new, but what an amazing fact it was....

While hunting for my 1st Arabian, after some (irl) 30 mins or so, it was finally spotted! Hurray, I (actually) thought....!

(the thing is) That 1st spotted's Arabian was under some violent (no sh*t!) attack by a pack of wolves (3-4, as far as I could count...).

So, all of the sudden, things went way messy, as one can always expect... Blood all around, dead wolves.... f*cking usual mess, I guess.....

However, where did that f*cking "beautiful" horse went?... Lots of sh*t happened meanwhile I guess, on just a few ig hrs, but c'mon.... Really?! "Your now new favorite personal horse, to be..." only being traced after checking and following a circle of despicable vultures in the sky?!?!?! Enough is enough!!!! :D (f*cking outstanding!)

Dogs can lead you to secrets.

Like...

I've seen videos on how others found the young man under the gunsmith shop in Rhodes

Most probably what a YouTube video about it

Some stumble across it by accident.

Others overheard a conversation between 2 NPCs

...but I had a dog lead me to it.

I'm not going to put up the whole video of me rescuing him because that would take to long, besides there are dozen of them on youtube already so there's really no point

but here is how the dog reacted and how he lead me to the event...

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but 2 things to note...

I pet the dogs in every area I go and I'm not talking about once, I mean every time I visit

I've never killed a dog not once, not even the ones that attack at the old gypsy witches house

I even do this with horses lol

Oh P.S.
Did any of you get the little boys drawing during that encounter?

It belongs to the gunsmiths real son...

...Edit...

this is the son's drawing for the people who might have missed it...

I have one that is probably a bit obvious, but I didn't catch it while playing the game. I caught it while watching someone else's Let's Play after finishing it.

On Arthur's wagon there is a photograph of his father, Lyle Morgan. That part I did catch, but I didn't notice while playing the game that "Arthur's" default hat was originally Lyle's hat. Lyle Morgan is wearing it in the photograph.

The scene from trailer 1 where a dog is barking to some vultures in Van Horn it's in the game! (I really thought it was scripted in the teaser trailer).

I'm surprised at how similar young Arthur and his father look- they essentially are 1-for-1. And it's also strange how Arthur never considers his father a good figure, yet keeps those mementos around close near him. Maybe as some sort of desire for a father figure and to cling onto what memories he has of his family, but eventually also to remind him what sort of person he needs to avoid becoming?

One thing I noticed is that Arthur keeps a jar with a flower in it, as he mentions to Mary-Beth that his mother loved those flowers. In the high honor ending, his grave ends up covered in those flowers.

Day One patch gave you a slightly different "The Wittemore" outfit to wear within Mission #52 - A Fine Night of Debauchery (red neckcloth/red vest).

unpatched

patched

Not only that, with this patched version you could (finally) remove the satchel immediately afterwards.

Pretty sure it's patched these days.

I kinda imagined that, so you can't even start the quest in the epilogue right?

You can stack a number of wolf pelts on the back of your horse ... and you can actually see that they are stacked (as opposed to them all just "disappearing" into each other). Not only that, but you can then stick another animal on the back of your horse above the pelts. And not only THAT, but if you've already put an animal carcass over the top of the pelts and then want to stick another pelt on there ... it does a DIFFERENT ANIMATION where Arthur actually tucks the new pelt between the existing pelts and the carcass. My jaw literally dropped when I saw that. It wasn't even the fact that Rockstar thought about it ... as much as it was the fact that once they thought about it they felt that they needed to make it happen for the rare event when the player would try to do that.

I was shocked by this too. I was always taking the carcass off and then putting the pelt in and then putting the carcass back on until I saw someone else tuck a pelt in under the carcass while free roaming in online.

So getting 100% on the Carolina Parakeets in the compendium is missable.
