RDR2 Appreciation Thread

Just finished the story and I'm well impressed.

 

I started out not liking the game too much, but as it progressed it seemed to get better and better to the point where the gun fights were exciting, horse riding was...well like horse riding and much of the social interaction left me either wanting to pull my pistols, or made me feel like I had just been cutting onions.

 

All in all, just shy of 100%.

One of the most absorbing, engaging and (despite knowing what was coming) emotionally draining gaming experiences I've ever had. Don't mind admitting I was in absolute bits by the end of Chapter 6. 

 

Sadly, such was the emotional impact of the main story, I felt somewhat empty playing the epilogues. I get why they went the way they did and understand why fans of Marston and RDR1 were happy...but it felt way too soon for me.

Lol. I love that here. I had a goat ram me while I was wandering around very cautious of the alligators. Genuine scares.

Spent 1 real-life hour or so walking around in the swamps today ... so amazing. I got attacked by gators a dozen times and ultimately made it out alive!

Only Rockstar could continue getting it right and then a lot more.  The spirit of the game is different from RDD but not less as it is ‘turn of the century. I couldn’t get going with GTA but have been waiting 2yrs for this and a little surprised at how well all the mechanics have matured, including the adult attitude being a large part of the theme. Masterpiece Game , no doubt about it.

Finally completed chapter 6 after taking my time with this game. I was pretty much speechless at the end of it all, and I believe at one point I was even fighting back emotions, one of the best games I’ve ever played hands down, and I still have the epilogue to do.

Aye, I've been rocking the Volcanic Pistol and Sawn-Off for my 2nd playthrough in my holsters so I've been using the single Volcanic a lot which means I'm doing the fancy holster after every fight pretty much lol. It's a shame you can't do it on horseback.

I'm also on my second playthrough. Dual Schofields in dark blue steel and pearl grip. 😍

I actually want the Schofield but I'm still so early into Chapter 2 it hasn't unlocked in the store yet lmao. Might have to do the Valentine medical store backroom for it tomorrow.

 

Did get the final satchel though, which is reaaaaal handy this early in the game.

Yeah that is a game changer

Was the first thing I started working on in my 2nd go round, even though a few of the animals were tricky to find.

...totally worth the effort.

I wish this R would give us a new game plus mode. I want to play the story again but I don't want to give up all that nice trapper gear I did all that hunting for.

I actually really loved this game. And I thought Rockstar was going to mess up the story but hot damn they actually listened to the complaints against GTA 5.

 

Also I f*cking love the story in RDR2. I could write novels on how great it was the character development, worldbuilding, foreshadowing, the complex nuances and etc is top notch.

Is there a option where I can read the past dialogue in menu?

Rdr, gta sa, gta 4 and 5 had that thing in menu where you can read what the characters were talking in the mission in case you missed something.

I can't find it.

I don't believe so, no. It's one of the first things I looked for when I started playing. Really hoping they add some stuff like that back in.

Okay, that was the freakiest f*cking sh*t in a long while...

Rode past the Old Blind guy on my way to Emerald Ranch to sell some sh*t to the Fence and decided to hear my fortune. He said something about taking another man's Horse and that some wont allow it willingly and I ride on towards Emerald Ranch, arrive and I see a funny looking Horse, turns out its a Mule so I hop on and it bucks me right away and I give chase but no matter how fast I ride I cannot catch it even with the Lasso. I chase it across open fields and come across a grave under a "warped tree", I look away for a second at the tree and the Mule is gone...open fields and gone.

Weird.

Getting drunk and starting bar fights does not get old man, slamming heads on tables and everything.. I love how the law walks in and is basically "alright I'm here so don't cross the line" and basically makes sure no one pulls a gun and then lets me walk out of town on my own accord after it's over.

It's weird that there's no option to look at stats like total playtime, total kills, etc.

I thought that was very cool with all of Rockstar's games ... odd that it's not a thing for RDR.

Ffffffffffffffffffffff*ck the swamp.

 

Saw some girl crying in the distance so I went to help, she slashes me leaving me near-dead and I manage to kill her before a buncha night folk came from behind and put stabbed me in the deck. Not ten minutes later some thing ran by me sounding like the devil him self, made my horse sh*t its self and buck me off then a more night folk came charging at me with knives and bows, managed to kill them just about.

 

I'm outie of this place man.

I want minigames stats back too. Loved looking at how many times I won on a bluff or hit a good hand there. The only stat I wanted gone from GTA:O was K/D from freemode unless it was a competitive mode.

Haven't "missed" a game like this since TW3. But I'll wait a few months before a second playthrough so it's more fun.

Also hope Rockstar delivers some quality story DLC with Arthur yet, one of the best written video game protagonists ever

I'm really enjoying my 2nd playthrough as much as my 1st tbh. Still a ton of things I haven't seen and playing missions differently when given the choice has spiced it up, along with not caring about honour as well.

 

Though, I say "playthrough" but I must be at 30-40+ hours played and I've not took Uncle and the girls to Valentine yet lol
