I just finished the story and what I ride it was. The end credits were happy and sad at the same time knowing what was coming next.

Unlike many, I loved the epilogue. Makes me want to replay RDR1

I loved it as well. It really wrapped up the story and set the stage fpr RDR1.

Rhodes. Man, I enjoyed that city, and I still do.

I always felt like Rhodes was a city between Saint Denis and Valentine, kind of. Kind of like a mix in the middle. Country-side city, but also in the beginning of turning modern. And of course, mixed things also happened there in the story. It was a good city to go to to "escape" things (you know what I talk about if you finished the story). While I also enjoy Saint Denis and its beautiful details, mysteries and charm, I still enjoy Rhodes a lot. Chapter 3 was the best chapter for me.

Also here's a sh*tpost I made.

So I finally hit the Idealism & Pragmatism mission with the mayor and noticed that the mayor's name is Henri Lemieux.

Holy cow--my Mom's maiden name is Lemieux, and that lineage ultimately goes back to Rouen, France in the 1600s, but when they came stateside, they were in Trois Rivieres, Quebec, NY state and Wisconsin. Don't know of many Lemieuxs that got down to Louisiana, but I LOVE that Rockstar used such a kickass French surname!! :)

Did a home invasion mission with Javier and figured I'd follow him home, see if he does go all the way and well, while he literally walked the journey on his horse, he did actually make it home. We rode past some O'Driscols in Valentine which he opened fire on too, lol.

Unique NPC encounters, lizards and other desert animals, letters and other collectibles, Del Lobos gang, a few bounties and more.

I think I'm gonna work on getting some pelts for the trapper. I wasn't really into it before but seeing some of these pics people post makes me want to go Jerimiah Johnson. I'll head over to New Austin eventually.

Another reason I love RDR2 is how the map is used. It's like San Andreas and RDR.  You go on this journey that takes you around the map and each new area becomes your temporary home. This to me utilizes the map to it's potential and also gives me a sense of size and makes the experience more immersive for me.

Yeah, the map layout is great, as is the one from San Andreas, RDR1 and Bully!

First time I'm using a screenshot from a game as my desktop background. I posted this one in the Screenshots thread before. Atmospheric!

I think I know where that place is. I was genuinely spooked there. You can hear the creaking of the trees and it can very quiet at night except for the sound of nocturnal animals.

Other developer use RDR2 as the standard to live up to. https://www.vg247.com/2018/11/23/cyberpunk-2077-aims-to-be-as-refined-as-red-dead-redemption-2-at-launch/ If there is any game that can be as good as this it is Cyberpunk 2077.

As far as I know those claims aren't from CDPR them selves, just a firm predicting sales or something.

Cyberpunk 2077 definitely seems like the next BIG game though.

That and TLOU 2. I hope they don't come out around the same time.

N/M

..Edit..

I was going to take this down to shorten it but after thinking about it...

I feel if I do that, it will not carry the same sentiment

...Edit...

I know the game has a few issues but I'm not here to focus on that part so here we go...

Several shout outs...

Sorry this is going to be a long appreciation post but hopefully worth the read.

Id like to start off with a, tip of the hat to all the modelers that worked on this game.

Before I get into that, a little history...

I have worked in CAD design and 3D modeling for many many years now. Most of that time in the oil and gas design side of things, but I've dabbled in a few other fields that used programs like the ones used to make this game.

...the reason I make mention of that is because, I know how much work goes into modeling something.

I've also done a bit if skin moding aka skinning, for several games in the past. For those who are unfamiliar with that term, it basically means creating custom artwork overlays for the 3D models used in games.

So, I know how much effort goes into this type of stuff as well.

...the attention to detail.

...making sure all the textures line up properly.

It can often be quite a task at times. Especially the tricky parts where the modeles move.

Ok, moving on.

I also have to give a special tip of the hat on the modeling of Saint Denis and the surrounding swamps.

More history...

I grew up in southern Louisiana and when I didn't have my head in a book learning something new or drinking and partying...

I spent a good portion of my youth hunting, fishing and camping. Not just in my home state, but the surrounding states as well.

In those years I've seen and even explored old rundown shacks, along the bayous and tributaries that make up the Louisiana swamps. So I have to say, the oak trees, cyprus trees, the vine covered trees and the cabins/shacks, then combined with the sloppiness of trudging through the mud of the swamps. I'd have to say it looks and feels about right.

...lol other then and the over abundance of alligators. They are gators, not crocodiles. Alligators are extremely territorial animals and will even eat their own young if there are to many in any given area.

...oh and the crawfish holes. lmao that's not how that's done.

lol, Anyway, short of that, and a few other minor things, I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10.

A little more history and I'll wrap this up...

Not far from where I grew up, there were and are old plantations that are well maintained to this day, and still look as good as they did back then.

The city of New Orleans has a historic district where many of the old style homes still stand today, and just like the plantations are still as they were over a hundred years ago.

...nice job on the look and feel of the old city, and the plantation. I thought both were nicely done.

They even put what is know now as the French Market (it's the place where the butcher is located) and the old street car station, (that's the stagecoach/post office) now a coffee and beignet shop called Cafe Du Monde.

Alllll That said lol...

I have to give it creds to the folks who probably put in countless hours of work making the visual and immersive aspects of this game, top notch IMO.

...and to R* for making it happen.

Rockstar and Naughty Dog are practically always tied when it comes to leading the industry forward in their respective genres. GTA V and TLOU finished off the 360 and PS3 era with a bang. Every game they make is ahead of its time by a good five years or so haha.

One thing I can't believe is that they got rid of liar's dice and put dominoes in the game instead. My god, dominoes is a lame game.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to liar's & dice ... no idea why they couldn't add it to the game!

I think it's possible to see a return of it in RDO though ... alongside Horseshoes! I'm looking forward to it!

I thought so too, had never played dominoes before, I quite liked learning and find it fun.

That said, I too am disappointed the dice and horseshoes got cut. I hope we get them one day.

It's just like reading above how another's mum's maiden name meant a little extra to them. I enjoyed reading the passion it draws out in some and with yours too as I'm a bit green on the technical's, nice to learn a little and to apprecoiate that effort too. :)
