Things you would want in RDR Online

Same deathmatch system as in RDR 1. No Content Creator for deathmatches and annoying invites from people who create stupid deathmatch maps. That part sucked in GTA.

Friendly lobbys would be nice , just to be able to rob banks, trains with crew/friends without the varmin pvp trolls.

Truly don't want rdr2 online to be lobby PvP focused.

Random events! I've never understood why they never implemented that into GTAO. Random folk who does random sh*t on random spots.

Hitchhikers! How nice wouldn't it be in GTAO, if every once in a while you came upon a hitchhiker and you could pick them up (or drive off) and they'd pay you varying amounts depending on how well-off they are. None of us would do it solely for the money, of course, but it's just a nice thing in a "living, breathing world" to have stuff in it that gives it life.

There'll be animals this time around though, so I guess that's good.

It'd be quite cool to have the Social Club store page (Wheeler, Rawson and Co.) work in RDO like it does in single-player - not just the convenience of being able to shop for things outside of the game, but also being able to preview things as they get added with updates, rather than having to slog to the nearest town to try things out.

- Content Creator - I know this is a subject of soreness with many people. But just hear me out. The problem in GTA V Online was not the content creator. The real problem was simple : Rockstar failed to monitor and punish cheaters who used this awesome tool to create "trap matches" where only creator knew the special way to the weapons and then just slaughtered everyone in the match the entire time.

As a veteran content creator that got sick of R*'s treatmeant of the content creator, I can confidently say that filtering out the cheaters and trolls from a content creator on Red Dead Online would only fix a small aspect of an even larger problem. The system was not as robust as it needs to be to truly foster creativity among players. The ability to create only certain types of missions (Deathmatches, Races, Captures, et cetra.) mean that you're going to play a lot of content that sort of all flows into one and each other. Certain talented creators were able to create some really cool stuff in the limitations of GTA Online's creator, but it truly was a limiting process. A mission creator was never even allowed access to for the public, despite the fact that a few modders have been able to hack into the game and create custom missions that work just fine. If R* is going to add a content creator to Red Dead Redemption 2, I hope that they actually allow for a robust set of features that allow players to make missions be as creative, fun, atmospheric, and entertaining as possible.

Then after that, R* can verify certain content (porting jobs from Xbox to Playstation and vice versa) they want to feature. Maybe this time they'll try verifying user-generated content on a semi-regular basis. Without exaggerating, GTA Online went over a year without verifying anything. There was no explanation given. They didn't verify a single UGC mission until they released the Cunning Stunts update, and then nothing. The Cunning Stunts update came out nearly 2 years ago...

And even after they do that, it is imperative that R* nurtures the creator, and by extension the creator community. The GTA Online creator and the community it fostered was legitimately the only reason I kept playing the game after a few months of playing all of what Online had to offer at the time. If I were to give R* one piece of advice if they have a content creator ready to go when Red Dead Online launches, it would be this: Do everything you should've done with GTA Online's creator.

I want to become the next Leviticus Cornwall if I feel like it.

I just hope there's something we can do to make money apart from grinding the same five missions on loop like 2013 GTA Online, otherwise I'm exploiting once the opportunity arises.

Special/Random Events via ingame notification or newspaper in open world

Posse vs Posse Missions or a Mission where several Posses have to work together

Being able to form an Alliance with other Posses

Being able to chose if your character is going to be an Outlaw, an uprising Lawman etc(+ different story and missions depending on which role you pick)

Some kind of Story

More Interactions/Encounters with NPCs(besides the prologue, first time meeting a new character or getting these annoying phone calls in gta online when you havent done a Mission for a while)

No Blips on the map except for a nearby player and posse members or when you're able to somehow track a player.

Recruiting NPCs for your camp. One where you can sell things you get from hunting, one who takes care of your horse etc.

And safe zones that get you insta killed via NPC if you decide to attack someone there or just remove your weapons, the ability to equip any while you're inside and the ability to attack someone.

Being able to get companions in form of animals. (A dog for example)

Pressure Drop

-Rockstar Editor
-Contact Missions

-Survival mode (from GTA Online, but expanded and improved upon)

-Creator Mode (including new Contact mission and Survival creator)

-Liar's Dice

-No player dots on minimap - maybe have a rough area where the player was last seen, which updates every 30 seconds for example. It would be brilliant not to have player dots - is that a NPC or a player? Who knows!

-Proximity voice chat, instead of the entire lobby being able to hear everything.

-Update Poker, so that when a player is bust out or leaves, the blinds go up.

-Possibly some form of voice for your character, even if dialogue is limited it would be nice to hear the odd thing, and grunts etc. Choosing from Male / Female 1-10 voices, for example

That's all I can think of for now!

PS - for the people asking for dedicated servers, Rockstar already confirmed that there will be dedicated servers. They made a deal with Akamai to provide the servers. This is great news and should be far better than crappy GTA P2P matchmaking!

Traps!

At least bear traps (already in-game via Story Mode); possibly others(?), but would be effective against players, horses, and NPCs alike.

In my mind, they could be escapable--but would take time to undo--so would slow a player down.

The world of RDR2 is huge, so bear traps would only be effective in certain settings--i.e. putting it on a trail or entrance to a house would be the best places, but riding off of the path or entering a house through a window would evade them.

I'm sceptical about RDO, and have no idea how they will implement micro transactions in a manor that doesn't bother me.. They could be really greedy. That said, healthy scepticism helped with the single player experience, my expectations were blown out of the water!

But for the love of god hid other players on the map,  add proximity chat, and let every interaction be a bit of a mystery..

i don't mind dog trackers, showing up on the map if ya have a largish bounty on you, or your posse showing up on the map.

Surely this concept is universally wanted in the Red Dead community right?

It would make tracking and/or meeting other players an event in and of itself!

I couldn't agree more--but my feeling is that Rockstar simply doesn't like competition when it comes to content creation, which (IMO) is why they never released a mission creator in GTA Online.

Who would have bothered with Rockstar's missions if they could play the cream-of-the-crop missions designed by creative, skilled players?

They already have Adversary Modes in RDR Online, so I see no evidence that Rockstar has changed in any way in terms of their overall handling of at least this aspect. I'm honestly dreading another wild-west reskinned GTA Online in this regard.

I hope I'm VERY wrong on this.

While I’ll admit that I hate adversary mode, I do feel that it will suit better for RDRO.

^^ Just my own opinion of course, but I've honestly never met an Adversary Mode I actually liked and enjoyed playing.

The closest thing to AMs that I felt actually had replay potential was the "Crooked Cops" Versus job.

As someone who faithfully did Daily Objectives until the cows came home, Captures were boring at best; LTS were too short and players often left before the game was done; DMs and TDMs were mostly lame due to TP/FP issues, cheating, lag, etc.

If Rockstar manages to come up with something that's actually fun and works, my hat will be off to them.
