If you could remove a section of the story, what section would it be?

Recommended Posts

So pretty much a question came to mind, and it was ¨What part of Gta IV´s story would I remove and why?

I guess I would remove the Manny portion. It wasn´t that big and it didn´t really add anything that big. I liked Manny and found that whole situation funny but I think we could survive without it. It was pretty much just an introduction to the new part of the game after what happened with Faustin and Dimitri in Broker. I think Elizabeta would´ve been fine for this alone. Or perhaps add a new, more interesting character to replace Manny and what his section was all about. Only downside is we don´t get ¨The streets Man! The streets!!¨

So what about you guys? What section of the story would you remove and why? And would you replace it with anything?

I would remove the part where Niko starts working for Pegorino and Phil Bell. That section was kinda boring in my opinion, and not really that important.

Manny's part definitely. As much as I love GTA IV's story this part has always felt like a roadblock that only slows things down. Thankfully Algonquin picks it back up.

-Jimmy Pegorino missions:Filler

-Derrick McReary:Yep, since we know Packie, we suddenly need to work for every McReary and this one was the most pointless. The other two brothers had meaningful missions.

-Phil Bell:Good character but once again can't believe how Niko got dragged into pegorino bullsh*t. Phil could be an incredible side character regardless. He didn't need missions to prove anything.

This is not the topic but instead of these I would like more missions with LJ and badman+Focusing more on Russians and Roman after Niko moves to Algonquin.

Manny. I feel like his character's main objective was to be as unlikable as possible so the player wouldn't give a sh*t about his death.

I'll definitely remove Manny's part in the game and make the Hove Beach part little longer. Manny was very annoying and his missions didn't seem to be important in the storyline.

Definitely Manny. Could have just jumped straight to the Elizabeta Torres missions. Of course, removing Manny from the equation means that you don't meet Francis but given the amount of time you spend with the McReary's I'm sure they could have introduced Francis another way.

So 2 of the most important arcs in the story?

yea so what? just because they are important does not mean that i have to like them. everyone has their own opinion. also i said a lot of the missions not all. there were still some good missions i liked.

It has to be the U.L. Paper missions for me. I fully understand the whole secret government agent thing was central to Niko's personal objectives, but the missions of this part of the game were quite boring to me. I simply had no interest in chasing down terror suspects or enemies of the state, and I just don't think that Niko needed to go through all of that just to get to Darko. I'd have liked to see more of the Playboy X-Dwayne Forge story arc in it's place.

Next is Manny's part. The missions quickly got so repetitive they began to feel like a chore, and to be honest, they just felt like meaningless filler for the game's story. I'd have preferred a much longer version of Elisabeta's part instead, I wanted more of those big drug deals and the crazy sh*t that came with it.

I'd have to say Manny Escuela's part. Most missions for him are just pointless. There's little to no effort put into him and it seems as if he's just a character designed to be annoying. When I rewrite GTA IV in the Writer's Discussion, I'm gonna have him and his bland cameraman named Jay Hamilton just not even be in it! Not that much will change. As far as TBOGT goes, I'm gonna leave Mori Kibbutz out of it. Brucie deserves a better brother.

Brucie's arc. It seems out of place after Roman's Sorrow is completed. Would've been better as Random Encounters than actual missions.

I'd cut back the number of mafia missions. You've already done a load for Ray Boccino and then you find yourself doing nothing but mafia missions for three different mafia guys at once. The rest of the game has a better variety going on. Would've been cool to have some more Russian/Dimitri themed missions near the end of the game instead of just Italian mafia.

Manny's annoying but Elizabeta is the best and I like that section of missions, the game has a totally different vibe when you get to Bohan and that's cool. Also he's intentionally annoying which is kind of amusing. And because I was hoping he'd be killed but not expecting it (since he wasn't an enemy) when it happened by surprise it was awesome. It was worth putting up with him just for that moment.

I like the addition of Mori. When you play IV you think Brucie is a bit of a dick but then when you see why he's like that you feel totally sorry for him and see him in a different way, thought it was a cool twist. Only wish something worse had happened to Mori

The Manny missions, I don't see the part of that to be fair. Would have preferred some of the Elizabete stuff

Brucie's Missions as well, I don't really see the part of it, especially the racing mission.

GTA 4 is the only one out of 3, vice, SA, and 5  I haven't found replayable. The pacing is pretty bad and the story is just so long. Maybe I'll like it more ten years later, not to say I didn't love it upon arrival but got damn was it long.

That's what she said.

Anyway I think GTA IV's length is pretty much perfect for a GTA  game. It's on average a 40 hour game which of course depending how much time you can spare due to work, study etc might make it a bit hard to get around, but personally I would rather a long, engaging story I can sink my teeth into than a short, haphazard one like GTA V.

It's best to approach playing through GTA IV like watching a cinematic epic like The Godfather, Once Upon A Time In America etc. The story works its magic best over a sustained play through.

I was a different human being in 2008 and I like rockstar single player stuff more than ever so I probably should replay it. I played the biker dlc in 2013 but still felt it was kind of bloated. Something about 4 feels a little off but I still really enjoy it.

Manny and Francis missions, both mean nothing to the overall story and wouldn't make a difference if they weren't there, for example Francis blackmails Niko and thats all he does, as for Manny, he doesn't introduce you to anyone so what's the damn point

I think Francis missions are needed in order of the events for Blood Brothers to follow

Granted that leads to that mission but the end result for it doesn't effect anything in the endgame, hell Packie in GTA V says Derrick was dead anyway

Even if you didn't kill Derrick in GTA IV, he wouldn't have that long to live anyway

Jeez....you actually found V''s story replayable ? I struggled to finish it a second time, it took me like two years !

IV's story and length is good enough, in fact it was near-perfect. 90 missions is just what a good GTA game needs. Yeah Miami is right, pace yourself if you play IV's story campaign again, it will feel much better. I did that on my 2nd playthrough and liked IV even more.

Someone said the story was damn long? First time I've heard a complaint about that,  I would have liked to seen a few more missions chucked in the story to be honest.  Weren't SA's story a bit longer than IV's by 3 or 4 missions?

Am I only one here never played second playthrough of V? I found it too cringy to play it again, I don't know why, maybe I'm a different person now....

P.S: the longest the better!!

There's nothing wrong with long stories as long as the game has enough story material and gameplay elements to keep you interested. Just look at SA. midway through the game and you still don't know anything about flying. The game keeps changing the environment and culture and keeps you interested. The missions were so well designed and each were unique on their own. But for me IV was more of the same after the Algonquin part(which isn't actually bad but nothing special either) and the game also forgot about the Russians which bothered me a lot. I still replay it but not as much as SA, V and Vice City.

I did and couldn't bare to finish it even once (Not joking or trolling. I've never actually finished it, but completed GTA III and Vice City a couple of times each) yet despite GTA IV's long length I've finished it 11 times. Will be 12 once I'm finished with my current save.😉

It is almost the perfect story (by GTA standards) and wouldn't take much tinkering. If anything some parts could be fleshed out like the PBX and Dwayne conflict to even make it a tad longer. I love long stories that stretch out their main plot points which is why I feel GTA IV's story is such a resounding hit with GTA fans generally.
