Jimmy_Leppard
Update: The final mission is uploaded. It's divided into 3 parts. Play the missions, have fun and leave a feedback, guys. I'll upload a ZIP/RAR file of the complete mission pack in a few minutes. The link will be in the first post on top of the ''Mission list'' section. With this, Sweep Squad mission pack is finished. I want to thank everyone who was following this mission pack all this time and giving feedbacks, but I also want to thank everyone else who will leave a feedback in advance. I hope you will like the mission pack. It's been a good journey with this. I don't know what comes next or if anything ever will after this… Every year I have less and less time for DYOM, I'm becoming too busy with my personal life and unfortunately, DYOM is an old mod for an even older game and time took its toll. There is only so much you can do with it. But if I do come back, it's not going to happen any time soon, that's for sure. We'll see. Stay cool, guys. Jimmy out. When you finish designing your mission, you can simply ''lock'' it by going to the Mission menu and select ''Publish mission''. That will create a DYOM0.dat file in your GTA SA User Files and then you just rename it to DYOM1.dat and that's it.

Notna
HA! I'm caught up on Jimmy's missions! So, you know how highly I appreciate your mission packs - before I start, let me just say, Sweep Squad is no exception, no, in fact, this is a brilliant masterpiece. Definitely in or at least very close to my top 5 from you. As per usual, the story clicked from the start, consistently made perfect sense, you had a great cast and almost everything was tiptop. That being said and you already knowing how amazing your stories are, in addition to all the excellent sh*t, my feedback will include the few points I wasn't so fond of because a few things stuck with me. Spoiler First of all, the connection to the Edge of High Life; YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! I can't tell you how excited I was once Scott Blake showed up. He's definitely my favorite protagonist out of your characters, and TEOHL is anyway in the top 2 mission packs from you. Scott's awesome. Playing as him, even for a short drive, was sick. Love the controls of his car by the way. That sort of takes me to one of the downsides I encountered; we always talk about your cutscenes, but in this MP, from time to time, I thought the dialogue was REALLY repetitive. I emphasize that only because it really bothered me at times; you know, I'm a grown and big dude but I felt I was being mansplained, bad time. And what I mean by repetitive, I don't mean that it was the same kind of vocabulary, but I felt like I had read the same thing three times during the same cutscene. I understand your plots are superdetailed as was the crew's plans etc. but I still thought it could have been made easier to follow and understand just by simplifying some of the dialogues. Especially Nate explaining the plans and Scott talking to Brian at the cemetery; I thought I had replayed the mission at times because it kept going back the same route. Your characters are awesome, Hendrix being not your usual goody two shoes was really effective, their first job getting f*cked because of the protagonist's recklessness really made for a fresh twist. Ross was my favorite character of the mission pack, though! "Yo, motherf*cker!" Gallacher was a neat, menacing villain but out of the baddies, Lance Jones was my number one - good character. And for a mixed martial artist like myself, the gym scenes really appealed But about that, I've noticed this in your MPs and I know everybody does this, I do as well, but you tend to reuse your skins a lot - it wouldn't hurt otherwise, but you also happen to make all your characters very memorable so they tend to get mixed up. Especially since you have two mission packs with a protagonist named Brian who's got the same skin In this, your cutscene placement was back on point after what I said about the previous MP. Some angles could always be better but I thought it was very cinematic and you used some very effective visual presentation. But boy... the ending. THE ENDING. MORE. I WANT MORE!!! Closure, superior good work. The negative points are there just because when there's a mishap or something bothersome, it sticks out from among your nearly perfect work. Still the top dog on this board. Better get to work on a new one soon though, Jimbo Jimmy_Leppard and RithRake24
Jimmy_Leppard
Hey, you blazed through this, I love it Thanks on your kind words, it really makes me happy to hear you liked it. To be honest, I didn't think you were gonna like it that much. I gotta admit, I don't think I've ever been lazier when making a mission pack than I was when making this one. I actually came up with the whole story from start to finish, dialogues, in-game location choices for sequences, everything, in 13 days. I didn't think it was bad, but I was aware it's not anywhere near my top works. That's why I completely agreed with SatournFan on his feedback. So, hearing you say it's high up in your favorites among my work really makes me happy. Could I have done better with the dialogues? Absolutely. I understand your frustration. I was aware of that when I was testing the missions too, but it was the same thing as with The Invisible System sequel. It was already under wraps and it would've been too much of a hassle to go re-work everything. Not to mention I don't even have time to tinker with missions that long. I wrote the cemetery scene to honor Thomas. I did overdo it slightly I left the ending open ended as usual because I want to have my options if I return. Now I'm sitting at 5 different options for mission packs if I ever return, so I think I did a good job with that. I decided to retire indefinitely because, like I said, I've never been lazier when making a mission pack and I don't like it. In the back of my mind, it feels insulting to me and especially people that play my stuff. I've said it in the past, I don't want people to think they've wasted their time when playing my mission packs. So, since I wasn't as fired up as before for this one, I decided it's time for a big break. At least a big break to see if this fire will come back. If not, then so be it. But anyway, thank you for playing this and finally catching up with everything. Good luck to you with your projects in the future, bro Edited March 28, 2019 by Jimmy_Leppard RithRake24

thermal7
Since I've developed this real neat tradition of writing reviews for Jimmy's MPs specifically, here goes another review for DYOM-verse Tarantino/Scorcese from DYOM-verse Roger Ebert. As always, spoilers ahead... Spoiler Pros - Cool story. The sequel always runs into the risk of devalueing an IP and tarnishingly its established reputation. For instance, The Invisible System sequel that I personally hated because it messes with the first TiS' narrative and themes and cheapens the characters, kills the general nuance of the story as heartlessly as Tyler Mahone kills that shop clerk (I will NEVER let you live it down, Jim). Fortunately, this MP is a surprisingly amazing and lore-loyal continuation of the longest MP Jimmy has ever made. Despite being alarming short compared to is predecessor (8 full chapters compared to 2 and a half), Sweep Squad does a exceedingly great at conveying such a solid story in such a short amount of time. The story is about a gang of amateur robbers who are lead by a young, impulsive and stupid don juan named Brian who flogged up a risk-free job over a girl, sent 40 mills of easy money down the drain. Naturally, this outrages their boss, the infamous high-roller named Gallacher, who intends to have the team of these wannabe street racers crucified by their scrotums unless they somehow recover that hard-stolen cash in a matter of 10 days - a seemingly impossible task until some things happened and an opportunity to redeem themselves in front of Gallacher presents itself. Thus the foolish Sweep Squad meets the old, rugged badass veterans of the Take Team and from them the youngsters begin to learn the criminal circle of life and theft. Firstly, the way you carried out the coming-of-age thing is sublime, showing a team of amateur idiots who failed a job for an absurdly petty reason and introducing them to the professionals who teach them and give them the guidance and discipline that they disperately needed, allowing the kids to discover the enormous heaps of potential that Gallacher had been suppressing for years. - Cool levels. There ain't much of them, but they're there. The Diamond job itself is simply above all compliments. The way you get to control multiple characters throughout the whole ordeal just shows much of a team work this is, everyone is useful, everyone has a part. Then there're a couple of regular action missions like Diamond or Die Hard (Lance's lair) or Triumphant (Gallacher's club), but they're pretty neat. - Cool characters. Since the MP is rather short, the cast is fairly sparce, but there's still place for top 5. 1. The Sweep Squad. The eponymous group is a small detachment of Gallacher's gang who perform occasional robberies on his behalf and get small paychecks out of them. Apparantly, Gallacher's policy is to hire people as inexperienced and gullible as possible, so that he use them as expendable cannon fodder and pay them as little as he can. This policy, however, backfires when Sweep Squad, thanks to unspeakable stupidity of don juan wannabe Brian, flushes Gallacher's quarry down the toilet. Right of the bat, this shows just how helplessly amateurish and pretentious the Sweep Squad is. They have very juvenile preconceptions about badassitude, flexing in front of some random girl like some douchy YouTuber and treating her like a trophy, a thing that frankly makes me sick. They start a gratuitous street race with a random guy because of a girl that Brian set his eyes on... while having a 40 mill delivery for the boss in the back of their car. The sheer stupidity of this act is acknowledged by Donny and JT, the two sane members of the team, but Ross - a testosterone monkey like Brian himself - shuts down any attempts to reason with Brian, and thus he makes the worst and best mistake of his life. After embarrasing themselves with the cash, Gallacher gives the young casanovas a non-existent chance to redeem themselves before the worst happens. Normally, their situation would be hopeless, but coincidently Brian comes across an old man known as Nate Foyle, the former commander-in-chief of the legendary Take Team that robbed some of the biggest crime families in LS and never got caught. Foyle makes it clear that only stealing the diamond worth 47 mill in cash that is displayed in the Atrium can remedy the broken relationship between Brian's team and their boss, so Brian decides to inform the others of this unexpected divine intervention. The guys' reactions to this turn of events is... polarizing, to say the least, but they don't really have a choice on the matter so they agree to join Foyle for the heist. After the new crew drives to the old boss, the old crew, the beloved Take Team shows up late and gets into a stand-off with the new crew, that, fortunately, ends as soon as it starts. Once all the guys sit down and talk, you get to see the difference between the new and old crews, the stark contrast between the hot-tempered, naive and greedy rookies, and the calm, collected and professional veterans of the theft world. Brian's team is knocked down a peg for their arrogance and Nate explains them that they're under his authority for the time being, that he will not take any sh!ts from a bunch of smartasses who barely did anything to be worth their salt, and that he will be directing the Diamond job. After some intense debate it is deciced that Sweep Squad will have to operate outside of their comfort zone, in the daylight, due to the peculiar nature of the job, mainly the over-the-top defense system that is active during the night which makes the Atrium completely impenetrable. Despite being humbled by the influence of the big boys, the youngsters still have some internal issues. Donny, Gallacher's loyalist, wants Brian to inform the boss that the solution is underway but Brian cuts that sh!t down real quick because he's not about to let Gallacher deprive his team of their biggest paycut ever. I'm 100% with Brian here, considering how lowly Gallacher regards them. However, Brian's aggresive anti-Gallacher sentiments rub Donny in the wrong way and decides to rat the team out to the boss, requesting a 1 mill share and elimination of his former team in exchange for the diamond. Then, the Day D (D as in Diamond, geddit?) happens. Despite Donny's blatantly suspicious behavior, the job goes as planned, and it shows just what the Sweep Squad is capable of in extreme situations. Naturally, Donny betrayed his team and gets his sorry ass whacked by Lance Jones, Gallacher's elite enforcer, for his troubles. Honestly, what else did he expect? That Gallacher would want to keep a turncoat in his crew? No freakin' way! That's the sole purpose of the rats, to give one-time help and be discarded afterwards. A loyal and effective operative like Lance Jones is much better to have around anyway, so understandly it's better to pay him to keep the diamond for a while. When Donny is found dead, Brian realizes that a guy named Lance Jones has foiled their plans and that they'll have to take the diamond from his cold, murderous hands. Anyway, since I'm really tired of retelling the whole story, I'll just say that over time the Sweep Squad get over their hubris and, by rebeling against their awful boss, open up a path to the whole new world of stealing, and it is beautiful to see these boys become men. 2. The Old Guard. The Take Team from EoHL is a pleasant suprise as their appearance was never hinted at in the description at all. They're back and better than ever. Nate is still up for some good ol' evil magnificence, Billy and Ricky are kind of umimportant, but they're still there and they make friends with the new crew, and Scott... oh my god, Scott, he has fewer appearances, but he's like a damn sensei, wise way beyond his years. He transcended badassery and achieved spiritual power, proving that you don't have to act like a "tough guy" to evoke respect. His conversation with Brian is the most thought-provoking thing ever, especially the tribute to Thomas, really struck a nerve. It's also pretty funny how the whole "over-the-top security at The Atrium" thing was a bluff to get the new crew out of the comfort zone and force them to improvise on the spot, and it's really cool that the rebellion against Gallacher was actually a set up from the beginning as an "exam" to see if the Sweep Squad has what it takes to play in the big league. 3. Gallacher. The ill-tempered, toxic boss of the Sweep Squad, whose very BEING is supposed to evoke hatred and aversion. Al least, that's his full picture. At first, however, it seems that he's actually in the right, because his team screwed up a risk-free job that promised them higher than usual paychecks, for an embarrassingly absurd reason. Anyone would be angry in this situation. But then, it is revealed that he would have killed his old team regardless, because he's just that much of a dick. Not gonna say much here. First, he's set up as a big threat, but after the team's skirmish with Jones his "menace" pops like a balloon. Talk about fall from grace. Since Gallacher's character is lacking in depth and awesomeness, he's pretty much nothing compared to Garry or Conrad, or even his lieutenant Lance Jones, who takes the "Big Bad Dude" prize. 4. Lance Jones. Unlike Gallacher, Lance's character is actually interesting to study. It has been said many times in-story how similar Brian is to younger Scott's foolish part, but it's never been how Lance is similar to younger Scott's professional self. Lance is highly experienced, imposing and serious, but most importantly, he's like a protagonist of his own story, and his character offers a lot depth when you know where to look. First, his history in Liberty City. Back there Lance had his own robbery crew, just like Take Team. And just like the Take Team, a failed robbery endangers Lance's crew and two of his men get captured, while Lance and his close friend Oscar are forced to flee to San Andreas. The two men decide to rat their leader out to the cops to get reduced sentences, only to get killed shortly afterwards. While it is said that Lance paided to kill the snitches, but I believe it was Gallacher's doing. Somewhere during that time, Gallacher got in contact with Lance and offered him to join his crew and Lance requested the death of snitches as a sort of a downpayment for his services, or maybe a demostration of power to prove Gallacher as a worthwhile employer. In short, Lance's extensive backstory leaves quite a room for imagination about what kind of exploits he was up to during his prime in Liberty. In fact, you, Jimmy, should probably make a DLC about Lance's history in LC, since GTA United gives an opportunity for that. Anyway, back in present day, Lance is Gallacher's mercenary, who also runs an independant arms dealing operation and even got himself an army of goons of his own. And yet despite being a kind of a supervillain - Insidious Adversary, as his introductory mission describes him - Lance still manages to remain reasonably human. His friendship with Oscar is very genuine, and probably written to reflect the relationship between Scott and Thomas. His grief over Oscar's death is very heartfelt, and he actually sounds broken, hurt by this occurence, and as a result, he wants to avenge his friend as passionately as the Take Team wanted to avenge Thomas. And to boot, he also displays a strong sense of honor, inviting Bryan's crew to fight him head on, and also calls Bryan a coward for aiming guns at him, and instead offers him a hand-to-hand duel for badassitude's sake. That's why I like this character so much - because Lance is antagonist, but not a villain (al least, he's not particularly bad compared to other villains) - just a guy who goes up against the New Crew and loses, but who's also just a human being at his core. 5. Scott. Oh, Scotty, who much you've grown! It's amazing how well written his part is. His appearence are scarce, but they leave a mark. He's a retired, peaceful man, who's given up on his neck-break pace lifestyle in exchange for a more laid-back and quiet one. In this MP, he's always smooth and calm, and yet somehow inspires power and respect through his experience and authority. His image is like that of an elderly war veteran - a wise, somber and somewhat nostalgic about his glory days, but also deeply scarred by the tragic losses he suffered, the prize that had to be paid for the achievement for this bittersweet victory. Cons - Some parts of the story are a bit off. Like, why are there only 3 guards to protect a 47 mill diamond? Shouldn't there be an entire National Guard detachment for protecting this absurdly expensive artifact? Or why didn't Nate immediately alarm the group that Donny's tracker was deviating from the scheduled path? (I mean, they DID have an arranged drop-off point, right?) Then, the group could've intercepted him before he had the chance to give away the diamond. But also we would not get that showdown with Lance, so... - Aside from Bryan who's pretty alright, the guys from the Sweep Squad don't feel as freshed out as the Take Team, they just don't have that charm, depth, or a sense of identity. Maybe this was intentional, but it's still bothering me. Most and least favorite things - Most favorite level: The Attrium Robbery. Being the most important event story-wise, and also the only time where the Sweep Squad actually feels like a team. - Least favorite level: None this time, as fortunately there are no levels that annoyed or infuriated me. - Most favorite good guy: Scott. Sorry Nate, but the sensei-robber takes the prize. - Least favorite good guy: Ross and JT, they're just the backdrop for Bryan's glory. - Most favorite bad guy: Lance, of course. He's smart, cunning and brave and badass. Oh, and he doesn't kill his men on a whim. - Least favorite bad guy: Donny. Rat rat rat rat RAT! Nobody can possibly like a rat! Why the hell did Bryan even feel bad for this rat anyway? PS. If you ever think about making another DLC or episode for this series, please consider making a sequel episode with Sweep Squad or maybe a backstory for Lance and his actions in Liberty with United mod. @Jimmy_Leppard, plz read and respond as always. Cheers! Jimmy_Leppard
Jimmy_Leppard
Oh man! I wasn't expecting a review of this mission pack. This was awesome to read. This mission pack didn't sit very well with the players and rightfully so. This might be the worst mission pack I've made. It was a rushed project (I wrote the whole thing and created the missions altogether in less than 2 weeks). The thing is, I really wanted to make a sequel to the Edge of High Life, but I think I wanted it a little bit too much so it backfired with a lot of players and I'm very sorry about that. However, thankfully, you're not one of them! I'm very glad you liked it. And even though this project was rushed, I still took the time to get some points across and I'm happy to say you've picked up on pretty much all of them (to be honest, I didn't expecting anything less from you ). Off to the review of the review. Spoiler First off, the don juan wannabe nickname you assigned to Brian is really funny. I laughed my ass off. [Click and drag to move] I guess that makes him a ''don't juan'' [Click and drag to move] Right off the bat, you got one word right on the money - suppressed. That's exactly right. Brian and his crew were being suppressed by Gallacher who didn't take them very seriously. However, the crew has a lot of potential and enthusiasm. Like Scott said - they have heart. They're like an unpolished gem, but a guy like Gallacher simply wasn't the type to recognize that. And that's exactly where the Take Team comes in. The Attrium Robbery is actually the mission I spent the most time creating. It's undoubtedly the best mission of this mission as even the ones who didn't like the mission pack liked that mission. I'm glad you liked it. You have dissected the new crew beautifully. Not really much for me to add there [Click and drag to move] One thing about them and Gallacher though is the fact that Gallacher only saw the surface (which is why you can't really blame the guy for treating them the way he did), but underneath all the inexperience, the arrogance and everything else that comes along with it, the crew has a lot to offer if somebody was to invest some time in guiding them. And Foyle being who he is, naturally... When it comes to the first meeting/stand-off between the young and the old - that's actually the first scene I wrote. It was also one of the few scenes where I really took my time to set up properly. I wanted Scott's cameo scene (at least the first one) to be epic and to instantly bring back the Edge of High Life vibe. And of course, also, like you said, show the undeniable gap between the old and new in just about every aspect as a set up for the rest of the mission pack's journey. The Day D was a turning point of the mission pack since it featured a few key moments of the story. The graveyard scene between Scott and Brian is personally my favorite of the mission pack by far and is also the second scene I wrote. Usually I don't do it often, but when I think about it now, I really wrote quite a few scenes out of order in this mission pack. But I mean, I immediately knew I needed to pay homage to Thomas' character and so this scene came to me naturally. I also used it as a bonding moment between Scott and Brian and as a tool for Scott to teach Brian a valuable lesson. As far as the ending scene goes, that was supposed to be the big reveal/set up for a possible future installment. And while we're at it, your idea about a mission pack during Lance's past in LC is an interesting one. It never crossed my mind. If I ever decide to make a mission pack about him, I'll have to give you some kind of credit for it Lance is a man of integrity and character even though he's not exactly a role-model. For me, he was the perfect villain/obstacle for the new crew to overcome considering what they're about. He was the perfect type to exploit all the problems that the new crew had at the time and a perfect stepping stone for them to overcome and use to grow out of their flaws. I like that you pointed out Lance/Oscar relationship to be a reflection of the Scott/Thomas relationship. You're definitely not far off. In my mind, they are like the evil versions of Scott and Thomas. As far as Scott goes, you covered everything in your post. You were right on the money with the war veteran reference because that's exactly right. It was really important to me to show Scott as a mentor figure in this mission pack. And if anyone can fill that role, it's him. I was surprised how short the con list was The guard number was really a technical issue. I didn't have enough actors and objectives to make it a larger battle. I also didn't really want to prolong the battle because of the time table and the LSPD backup arrival because I wanted to avoid the shootout. However, yeah, a few more guards, especially inside the Attrium, definitely would have helped the scene The second point though is kinda complicated to explain. There was a lot of commotion during the few minutes inside and outside the Attrium and since Nate wasn't physically there, he couldn't have seen what was going on. He didn't know if the team maybe ran into some trouble and had to split up on the spot. However, yes, he could've contacted them during the getaway. But there's also the fact that I wrote the story in like 4 days so there's that. I do take full blame The last thing was intentional though. I didn't want the new crew to have quite the charisma that the Take Team has primarily because I wanted to leave room for more growth in the possible future installments. It's good to hear you didn't have a least favorite mission this time. It means they were balanced Also, it's impossible to pick Nate over Scott. I'm sure Nate wouldn't mind your choice either All in all, yet another awesome review. You already know how much I appreciate the level of detail you put into these. Remarkable work, man. It's funny to me now because of the fact that you liked this mission pack, yet you hated The Invisible System 2. But that's exactly the reason why I love creating the mission packs. It's really interesting to see the different perceptions of other people compared to my own. It's almost inexhaustibly interesting. If I had to guess which of the two mission packs you'd like and which you'd hate, I would've bet all my money on you hating Sweep Squad and liking The Invisible System 2. That's what makes it so awesome. Once again, thank you and I'm glad you had way more fun with this than I would've thought. Sorry about that. [SPOILER]First off, the don juan wannabe nickname you assigned to Brian is really funny. M316
I am probably too late for the party and probably did it wrong since i played this MP before the one that preceeded it but that wont change my judgement that much about this story. This story is pretty much straightforward into the action and it is easy to cope around. I love that scenarios between characters can sometimes ressemble real life situations, why i said sometimes cos it also sometimes feels like the characters are just supplementing the act. I mean i appreciate the effort put into them, but maybe i would suggest add a bit more, not saying it is bad it is obviously a common issue with alot of us creators but just wanted to note. One other thing i critisize is the fighting scenes, oh boy my character cant stay for 10 seconds without dying. The problem here is most of the time my charachter`s health is half full which affects the gameplay, i had to reply some levels cos of that but it can be a bit bypassed by the HESOYAM cheat. Not a fan of using cheats but had to to avoid starting over. I also like the plotwist, heist, ending, and pretty much the ending leaves alot of questions and an open door for the next MP(not sure if there is one by now since this is 2 years old, will check out) But yeah it is good and i would give it a 8/10, cheers!!! Thanks a lot on your feedback, buddy! It would've been better if you actually played Edge of High Life before this one because some key moments in this mission pack have a much bigger emotional impact when you know what happened in the past, but nonetheless, I'm glad you liked it as a stand alone as well. Cheers! M316
