A hot air balloon would be a pretty cool way to get around. I hadn't even thought of that. It'd be slow, but imagine the view!

i hope rdr2o takes place in 1907 because id rather a kinda slow car rather than a fast horse. i wouldnt really wanna be button mashing for the horse to go faster. also itd be a cool contrast to see rather than everyone riding horses, itd be nice to see a couple of ppl in cars. like the old west lingering vs modern new world

I would like to see this as long as it was balanced and something more circumstantial. For example armored cars with a machine would be used mostly in missions. If it was in free roam then players would have to steal them from a group of NPCs that heavily guard it and at the same time there would be like 2 on the entire map. It would also be slow, have to reload. Just so that's it's not annoying or anything. Can be destroyed easily by getting mobbed with dynamite or sniping the driver. Bicycles and other civilian automobiles would be nice too but maybe something to find in the world and not always something to be owned.

No worries--before that happens, Rockstar first has the three-year task of draining horses and every. possible. associated accessory dry via microtransaction sales and Adversary Mode game play. lol

I wouldn't mind if they add one at some point. A horse is faster than it so I don't see the problem? It'd be a luxury item like the yacht and just a status symbol

And admit it, there's probably some of you that always wanted to drive the car in RDR 1. It just sits there.... mocking you, in Blackwater.

And we’ll have every damn player driving around in cars. Horrible.

 

IF they do cars, they should not be player owned. They can spawn ONE car at a random spot in the map for players to find and it can be part of a game mode - capture the car.

If they balance the cars with Horses and wagons I see no issue with it.

The Health and Stamina system could still work, take too much damage and its kaput unless you have a "Repair Kit" on you like Horse Revivers, fuel would be exactly like feeding your Horse with small, medium and large fuel cans. Going heavily off-road would damage your car just like drops and hitting trees damages your Horse.

I could see cars being a very lucrative part of Online for R* and they would be silly to exclude them.

Agreed. If it reflects the actual state of automobiles in 1899, ie. Rich folk's toys, slow on the road and practically useless off them, I wouldn't have an issue. A horse is still the betta meta choice in the large majority of circumstances.

 

BUT, looking back at the power creep and balance issues GTAO developed over the last 5 years worries me a little. I don't want a horseless carriage to be the top of a slippery slope. Setting overpoweredness aside, I have a higher tolerance than some for the thematic goofiness that entered the scene there, but I would have far less in RDRO's world. I don't want to be fighting steampunk spiderbots in the wicky-wicky Wild Wild West a year or two from now...

That is precisely my worry. That we will eventually see wierd scientist cars with lightning guns. Cars should be super rare, and not something every player can own. I’d much rather than one car spaws at a random spot in blackwater and two cars spawn at a random spot in Saint denis and then that’s all the cars we get. They can make different models and if they do want to sell something to the players, they can sell a drivers license, allowing the use of said cars.

Thinking about it, though cars might be considered a bit out-of-place, something more utilitarian like a traction engine would fit in. After all, there's steam engines and agricultural implements aplenty in the game already. Traction engines and variants were being produced for decades by the time of the singleplayer story, being similar to railroad steam locomotives. Sure, they're big and slow, but we've already thrown out practicality. From the plain "mobile engine" to more flashy "showman's engines", I can see these turning up.
