Will RDR2 become your favourite game ever?

No need to insult other peoples taste. Rockstar haven't done anything this generation apart from two ports and a load of Online Microtransaction content, RDR2 will be their chance to prove if they're able to reclaim their glory.

I don't think he was insulting witcher fans just giving his opinion. however I agree r* need to improve their online model but single player wise they never seem to disappoint.

That's your opinion. He could think otherwise (and even did state, he found GTAV a let down), I'm in the same boat, GTAV was a let down, if I had to pick between the two, I'd probably pick The Witcher 3 too.

Witcher is too fantasy for my taste. I think online was a bit of a disappointment and wasted potential but the story was great.

If you like story and heavy dialogue based games, I would say Bioware in it's prime were the best developer in the industry, what happened to them after EA took over is a sad tale. It's obviously very subjective and Rockstar definitely belonged and still belongs in the top if not the top of the the list in the industry. As others have said here though, they haven't really proved themselves in this generation yet, RDR 2 will be the test to see if they are still at the top.

I remember when Squaresoft used to be my favorite developer

It was around San Andreas/GTA IV that Rockstar took the lead for me

Better than anime where every protagonist is some annoying af teenager lol. Most tv shows also have adult leads so I guess people here just prefer that

Anyway on topic: I definitely think it will be one of my favourite games of all time if Rockstar really delivers on their promises. I haven't been this excited for a Rockstar game since GTA IV

Yea you probably relate well to The Witcher 3, given your location

Well, not that it matters where I am from... Story was engaging and puzzling, characters well written and with their own personality, side quests were fun and not very repetitive (which is rare these days imo) and the whole experience was very satisfying. That is why I like the game, not because it was made by our neighbors... :)

If you all lower your expectations you'll enjoy the game more.I did the same with V and enjoyed it for what it was. Good game but SA is still a king to me. Didn't dislike it for what it wasn't.  Keep in mind it's still a game we are talking about here and games always will have flaws.

On the side note get ready for threads like RDR is so much better than RDR2 and "RDR2 sucks ass" cause we all know what happens with new releases. People hype them like hell and then when something that was meant to be blue is green, they realize it's the worst game ever created. The very same people who hyped it like it's the second coming of Jesus.

So true. Hype is strong with this one.

Sure, that is your opinion and I respect it. Not my opinion tho. R* has made great games and one of my favorite franchises, However it seems to me that they are not about games any more. They seem to become just another cash grab company and GTA:O is a huge one. We will see how they'll do with RDR2. And imo CDPR is very, very close with Witcher 3 20 Mil. copies sold even without anti piracy software and Cyberpunk around the corner.

Edit: Also W3 is a story driven RPG and GTA is openworld sandbox-ish action game all about the gameplay, so you really can't compare those two...

I don't think this game will come anywhere near being my favorite, however it will definitely be a great game, whether I end up liking it myself or not, that will hype me up for the next GTA they do.

I didn't really like playing the first RDR. I liked watching it. I tried to play it on PSNow, it just, I hope RDR2 is better (I'm pretty sure it will be).

San Andreas and the last RDR will take some beating off of those top spots, but this game certainly could.

Good chance, IMO. (Story at least).

This is how a lot of Rockstar fans feel. Rockstar has let us down since after the release of L.A. Noire, they have become a different company and not for the better. But they have a chance to redeem themselves with RDR2 and judging by the trailers, I do feel that could be the case.

Also a ton of people have debated me about this, but GTA V was not designed with single-player as a priority. The game map is very remnant of ones you'd see in MMOs, its a huge departure compared to previous GTA maps.

PlayStation gamers have generally agreed that PS Now is garbage, I look in envy at how nice Xbone backwards compatibility is. Even though I don't own a Xbone.

Anyways, why do I highly feel that RDR2 could become my favourite game? Well RDR1 would be my favourite game if it had more side-content. Like sure, the side-content in RDR1 takes a long time to complete but there still isn't a whole lot of it, compared to games like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim. But RDR2 seems to be loaded to the brim with side-content. Crafting, cooking, hunting, fishing are the first things that come to mind.

It ran excellently on PSNow, I was very pleased with performance. I was not pleased with gameplay. It's not the first time I played it, it was my second try, I just didn't like it. However, I know for sure that RDR2 will be a lot more like GTA V gameplay, so that helps a lot to look forward to playing this one, regardless of how I felt about the first one (in gameplay, in terms of watching the game, it's awesome of course, just didn't like to actually play it).

GTAO, with the amazing kaleidoscopic experience I have had from launch, I think cannot be matched by any game , never having had two sessions with the same experience, it has been (forgive the pun) an absolute ‘game changer’ in online gameplay. I doubt it will be matched in the very near future...

I hope so but after all the focus on GTA V online, I really don't trust R* anymore.  Even with all the previews and trailers, I'm keeping my hype down as the one thing R* knows how to do better than make a game is market their game.

But Rockstar is not just one company. Sure Rockstar North may be all about shark cards, but Rockstar San Diego still may prefer single-player games.

This game is a collaborative effort between all R* studios. And they've already announced that they intend to make a lot of money off of microtransaction purchases from RDR 2. @bish0p2004 is right not to trust Rockstar.

Overrated. The time it takes to play a 2 minute game is ridiculous in GTA Online. I should have had 2000 hours in that game by now. I went right back to Call of Duty because at least there I only wait 1 minute between 5 to 10 minute games. In GTA? I needed to wait sometimes 20 minutes before a 2 minute race was started. The loading times are ridiculous in that game. The connections were piss poor, too, constant crashed lobbies, endlessly watching it say everyone left. I have it on two platforms (PS4/PC), it is across the board really bad in that regard. Didn't matter how great the gameplay was (it was indeed great), the loading times, as well as downtime between gameplay, well...

I wish they would, like, fix that. 😛

I already know it is my favorite game ever. Red Dead Redemption is my number 1 game ever, followed by many other Rockstar titles. I am a man who knows exactly what he likes and doesn't like. I have seen plenty enough of the game already to know it's my number 1.

Red Dead Online is the real question for me. When I talk about games, I consider the online component an add on, extra, not part of the main game. GTA Online changed that perception for me, as I consider it it's own game separate from V, but set in the same world. I have never put significant time into any online game before, I mean, never more than 20 hours max. I put 4,000 into GTAO. Question is, will RDO see the same mileage.

TLDR, RDR2 absolutely will be my favorite game ever. RDO might be my favorite online game ever, only time will tell. About 5 years to be exact.

Only if I can huck some sick stunts on a penny farthing and drive a Brass-era car off a mountain.

edit: on a more serious note, it’ll probably be so at least until Ghost of Tsushima releases.

It takes a lot of time for me to judge a game to be my favourite one. I have seen lots of footage of this game and it looks like a good candidate, but the story and gameplay will determine a lot. Final Fantasy VII and Zelda, Ocarina of Time took a long long time to be beaten as favourite games for me.

To state that this will be my favourite is far far too early.

Dammit.. how the f*ck would we know now.. wait for the release and see the reception. You guys are making the wait so much harder and setting all these expectations a bit too high with all this hype.

Unlikely. GTA IV will hold that crown for many years to come.

It has potential however to be among one of my favourite games.

It's a little bit early to ask this question don't you think? .. like 2 weeks early?

I'm hyped for RDR2 but I can tell you that if they announce GTA6 today, GTA6 will take my entire interest..

Isn't the initial loading screen when you start the game like 5 minutes long?

You can still predict based on what you've seen and heard so far about the game. I know its a big difference compared to when the controller is actually in your hands.

On console, it can be long Spadefish. An initial load is fine. On PC, it loads significantly faster. However, the actual point where you're playing, where you're between matches that lasted 2 to 5 minutes, then cannot play until 10 or 15 minutes later again. I don't like the freemode (maybe it's better now, but the actual game match modes, I wouldn't know how it is today, because it turned me right off). I can understand the initial load of GTAOnline/V. Especially online because of how they do that (load the main game, then load the differences for online a second time). It's the intermissions. Just to go from match-ending to lobby-waiting, the loading between that is longer than I would want to wait between matches entirely. If they can't put me from match-end to match-begin within 2 minutes, nobody has time for that. Especially in a game that requires grinding or LARGE shark card purchases to ever even experience anything cool about it. The shark cards make it even worse: GTA Online is an insult to self-respecting players who consider time precious. My option is to pay for fake money, or to grind VERY SLOWLY at low-payoff missions with extremely long pauses between action, or very long missions that can completely fail just by someone else dying or leaving or getting disconnected, which take even longer to start because of the coordination needed.

It's a piss poor system that ruined what could have been a great game. The success it enjoys is a miracle, to say the very least. The people playing that game with any success or "status" within its world are buying shark cards or have nothing else to do with their lives anyway. I have been there. I made it public knowledge before Aaron Garbut ever repeated me in an interview and before their Human Island ever came along and painted a picture of me (for which I am grateful forever, don't get me wrong): I lived in San Andreas more than I lived my real life for years. Between its release, and the release of Call of Duty MW2, I lived in that game 10 to 12 hours a day. When I wasn't in it, I was here, or modding it, playing with it, researching it. Because it felt too much like My home, a way to be away from this "real" world that has lost its way, becoming very fake over the last 20 years.

It's something, it's very hard to explain. But I have been there, I know why GTA Online is so popular for those who grind in it, despite all of its flaws. I salute those who are passionate about GTA. We are a special kind of people. Nowhere can you find more of us than this site. I salute you all. You are the future in my eyes. If I could dictate the design of this forum, it would be Golden, rendered images, looking like a cathedral or something. You people have always meant that much to me.
