I forgot it was a year, blimey!

Nice to visit the old, dusty stomping ground again though. Seems empty now, shame....

Is it wrong that I was hoping R* would do something, anything, to celebrate the one year anniversary today?

They didn't care for PC back then, do you think they love us now ? :D It would be considered platform racism from them, the comment section would burn with consolist riots.

Pffft, dude, we have our on exclusive content on PC, and no I'm not talking about graphical stuff - we got more cheaters than 200 broken relationships!

Anyhow, this makes me remember how fun this thread was. Active, humorous, and the right amount of drama from the consumers. Loved it. Shame it's over.

Oh my god, this thread  we had some good times! All the delays, the user bans (that Dark Overlord dude who kept saying the PC version is gonna be sh*t/not worth rebuying), the time we hit 1k pages, NGClan's giveaways...

Does anyone still have that MS Paint drawn version of GTA V's graphics settings, the one where it had "Mount Chiliad: On" and "Franklin Chips Quality: the qualty" and stuff like that. I loved that pic but I lost it on an older PC.

"Rockstar Games is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto V will arrive on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 18, 2014 with the PC version to follow January 27, 2015. The game requires a little more development time in order to ensure that it is as amazing and polished as possible. Please do stay tuned as we reveal new features and information about all the new versions in the weeks ahead. "

"As we head into 2015, we would like to share the first screens and system specs of Grand Theft Auto V for PC as well as a new release date of March 24, 2015. Our apologies for the slight shift in the date but the game requires a few extra weeks of testing and polish to make it as good as can be. Moving a release date is never a decision we take lightly and is a choice we make only when we know it is in the best interests of the game and our fans. Thanks everyone for your understanding and we assure you these few extra weeks will be worth it when the game does arrive in March."

I remember those days. "Good" times :sui:

I guess this will fit here since it's basically the "GTA V PC General" topic.

Take a look at this screenshot from Rockstar:

actual_1445340454.jpg

Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on here, visually? Is it just the sharpness and absolute lack of jaggies - or is it something with the lighting? I'm leaning more towards the lighting. Does Rockstar use some special timecycle files for their screenshots? They have to be doing something because in my game with every effect just about maxed, or even screenshots of other people's games I've seen with their settings maxed - I have never seen the game look like this.

The lighting is phenomenal. The characters don't look like they're clean Pixar looking models. It actually looks like a natural progression from Max Payne 3's graphics. Everything just looks so f*cking excellent. What is it? How do we reproduce it?

Hell, it's not even this one. Just about any PC screenshot they have ever posted on the Newswire looks amazing. And even with your settings maxed out the game doesn't end up looking like that.

They manually move the sun and moon to control the lighting and shadows.

Take this PC screen as an example. This screenshot is impossible in-game because the sun doesn't rise or set behind LS.

Here's another one. The sun doesn't rise behind Mount Gordo, it rises more to the east.

If they've got tools to move around the sun willy-nilly, than they have to be doing other stuff with the lighting and shaders. It irks me that this level of quality isn't available. As far as I know at least. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to this rendering and effects stuff, but I'm hoping at some point - whether with ReShade or something - that we're able to achieve the level of quality that Rockstar flaunts around.

So has anyone ever had any trouble with trying to use DSR with GTA V? I'm trying to use 1.78 factor so I can downscale 1440p to my 1080p screen, when I select 1440p in-game - literally nothing changes. Switching between 1080p and 1440p ingame is instant, because literally nothing is happening. They both look exactly the same, I can tell because of the awful amount of jaggies still present when applying 1440p. What the f*ck? I'm in Windowed Borderless by the way since I know downscaling is broke/messes up the aliasing and slighty stretches stuff in Fullscreen.

Did you tried any other window modes ? Or other resolution ?

Seems like you're experiencing that issue where no matter what res you're on the jaggies remain, other words AA is broken, like this: http://gtaforums.com/topic/816260-gta-v-anti-aliasing-looks-like-crap-no-matter-what/

The difference between 1080p and 2440p (both are at the same settings 2XMSAA):

kpqXQk9.jpg

As the reason why it seems the same for you is that the difference between the two is just a bit sharper image and less jaggies, but in your case AA is broke so you wouldn't see any difference unless you grab some screenshots and compare like this in order to notice the sharper texture.

DSR is buggy on Windowed Borderless as it just tries to magnify the window with no success is what I think. It works here pretty well, even for the jaggies, but on Fullscreen. Seems to be something with Windowed Borderless. Except if you're on fullscreen in your case, _MK_ .

I have tried other resolutions, and they give me the same result. Windowed mode forces the game into some weird resolution, and Fullscreen looks exactly the same. Jaggies everywhere.

That's the thing though, I can turn on MSAAx2 and MFAA and play at 1080p and the game looks sharp. Frame Scaling under Advanced Options works too at removing jaggies. Nvidia's DSR though is totally broken.

Which is strange, because a couple days ago it worked. In fullscreen it looked a little weird compared to using a factor like 4x DSR, but switching to Windowed Borderless fixed it. But DSR still worked, and it looked sharper and everything.

But now all of a sudden it's broken and I'm not sure why.

EDIT: Alright, well it's just Windowed Borderless that's broken now. Like, it doesn't even get upscaled/downscaled. I can crank the game up to 4k, even the VRAM bar increases - but in-game literally nothing happens. Performance stays exactly the same. IQ is exactly the same.

Switching to Fullscreen though and performance tanks at 4k like it should (on my 970), and the image is sharp and clear. Still, using the x1.78 factor (1440p downscaled to 1080p) looks horrible in Fullscreen even with FXAA. There are jaggies all over the UI and pause menu, and tons over the characters arms and hair. Like 1080p literally looks better because all those UI, pause menu, and arm and hair jaggies go away. I'm not sure what people are doing when they say the game looks great at 1440p downscaled to 1080p, because on my PC it doesn't. Only the whole number factors like x2, x3, and x4 look good.

EDIT2: I'm wondering, using factor 1.78 (1440p to 1080p) should I use the Smoothness setting? I usually keep it at 0% so it doesn't blur the picture.
