Just checked myself.. guess it's because I've played previous games like Max Payne 3 and L.A Noire through Steam (which had you signing in to the Social Club)

 

Love seeing all these things going on the last hour or so, hard to believe tonight's the night.

I think it only links if your social club account and steam account use the same email address.
