I've pre-loaded and unpacked tons of games over Steam. Yeah, people are going to complain. Most people don't even understand how pre-load works. Especially those that do not have much experience with it.

 

While Steam has gotten progressively better over the years with its pre-loads and unlocks, it's by no means a smooth experience. Last game I did pre-load/unpack with was Attila: Total War. That was around ~20GB's and still took a good 10-15 minutes, if I can recall correctly. It could have been less. I don't really remember because with unpacks I just don't bother staring at it. I go off and prepare my body to settle in for the long haul with a game.

 

There will be a lot of pauses and people will bitch it's stuck or Steam/R*/Obama dun goof'd. But really, it's just that the unpacker got to a big file. Once it is done with it, it will seem like the unpacker is going at mach 69 speed. Until it reaches another big file and it will seem like it is stuck at a certain percentage again.

 

It's going to be biblical m8s.

 

you think a near enough empty SSD helps speeds the processes along?
