few questions with steam:

 

- after preload finishes downloading, does it automatically update the preload with a patch? or do i have to be at the PC to click a button?

- same goes for activation at 00:00 o'clock, do i need to be at the PC [given that the pc is on and steam running] in order for the game to activate?

Steam does an 'unlock check' every five minutes to see if a game becomes available. It will then download the Day 1 patch and the decode key for the final data decrunch....

 

If your Steam seems a little slow to unlock, just exit and restart it. It will perform a check as a startup requirement.

I still got to wait to pick my pre order up from game then get back from town and install all 7 disk's download any patch's (with my net speed anything over 500mb is going to take an age. So I dont think I will be playing much before 4 pm

as i'll be sleeping and would like to play a little bit in the morning, but avoid waiting for decryption/installs

The 7 dvds contain like 55gb, the game has 60. Its a counter method for piracy and stuff.

 

A friend of mine got his copy on saturday and he had to download 5gb after activating his key.

Don't expect much from this. However, if it's as optimized as R* claims, you might be able to hit medium settings. 1080p? Possibly. If you want 60fps, I'd go and turn the settings down.
