Actually, I see it as a money decision. The 'dark' is nothing more than getting resources out of it and letting their bots do the work.

Humans cost money. If you can eliminate them, free the resources up (from people appealing). It makes all much easier and cheaper for R*. More money for the Housers to hire hookers.

It's just a numbers game and proof R* doesn't give two sh*ts about the playerbase - it's the money baby. If the macrotransaction driven nature and blatant coded trolling of the game wasn't enough evidence.

Cheers.

But R* went from light to darkness - to excessive.

God, I wish they didn't remove Christmas clothing... I would rock a Santa hat all year long.

If i can't do it in-game, I'l do it here. My Christmas avatar is staying all year.

I'm a little concerned about R*'s recent "answers" to Public-Only mission workarounds, such as:

  • Spawning terminator-level AI if players are alone in session (4 waves max though, which I suppose I should be thankful for)
  • Vehicles exploding if lobby empties halfway through delivery
  • (adding to this after reading recent posts here) Apparent bans for players who may have "engineered" emptied lobbies for personal gain

These are all sticking-plaster solutions to deeper problems. What's worse, they seem to punish players instead of addressing exploits or poor design choices, which is entirely the GTAO dev team's fault for overlooking and also their responsibility to fix. Properly, not with amendments like the ones mentioned above.

So, before implementing these shoddy "solutions" which seem to be based on assumptions, here's a few things that might have been worth considering:

Not all players ending up in solo sessions are lagswitching.

We all seem to be victims of the crappy P2P system in this game from time to time. I play plenty of other games on the same console and there are no issues and the same can be claimed by countless other people. Why punish players who are just trying to play the game with exploding cars and frankly embarrassingly over-the-top AI when sessions split? Because of a minority have been vocal about lagswitching on YouTube and forums like this? To me, this is just a way to discourage people actively engaging in content that the GTAO team have spent considerable time and resources developing.

Players who take advantage of empty sessions are probably just sick of the CEO/MC activity restriction to Public-only.

Sick of having game features withheld from other sessions such as Invite-Only, possibly because of contrived PVP situations via in-game 'encouragement' (Global Signals, notifications, big f*cking red icons showing your every move). Yeah, okay, the standard counter-argument is that "It's intended to be this way" but just because that IS the case it doesn't mean it's implemented well. Why not give people the choice? Sure, it'd get boring doing all this on your own but let people find that out themselves. If they want a challenge, they know where to go. If it's all about Shark Cards (and I'm not convinced it is) then a player who will choose to endure hours of solo grinding isn't likely to be someone who would purchase cards anyway, so the restrictions seem pointless. Even with the increased payouts of Import/Export, selling products is hardly a get-rich-quick scheme with in-game content prices skyrocketing.

Game imbalances are partially to blame for this trend for some players to actually want to be in a solo/split public session.

Debated to hell and back on these forums and a can of worms I don't particularly want to open, but some vehicles offer massive advantages to players in public sessions, are far too easy to abuse and some people are bored with having to put up with someone else running rampant in a session just for sh*ts and giggles (admittedly I rarely experience this myself - I switch sessions if the map is covered in Armoured Car and Jet icons). Some items at a player's disposal seem to have very little restriction of use (in a game otherwise riddled with cooldowns) and when CEOs and MC Presidents are forced to use the most pathetic resources to deliver valuable cargo, it feels more than just a little intentional in some poorly-grasped concept of "increasing the challenge". This is just lazy design and of course, it's unsurprising that some frustrated players have turned to extreme measures to avoid every game session being a raging disappointment. I'm not condoning that type of behaviour, I'm just saying I can see why people may turn to it.

R*, instead of slapping all of GTAO's players on the wrist, how about you actually tackle the root of the problem - namely, your surprisingly poor design decisions (among a sizable amount of good ones, of course) and long-standing connection issues. Sort your sh*t out.

tl;dr:

In my opinion it seems like players are being punished for R*'s poor decisions, and it's tragic that a game experience with such potential is spoiled by quick-fixes and short-sightedness regarding game design fundamentals by people who should really care more/know better.

Is this The Guy?

Been having a lot of fun stealing cars and delivering them to my warehouse but...

Son of a bitch... went to deliver a top range S-70 from Sandy shores and the assholes that were coming after me, don't know if it was just timing or what, blocked the end of the exit and it was bottle necked pinning me in the middle of a bunch of cars. So I got out to shoot the 2 goons and the civilians in the front of my car got out of their vehicles and ran while the drivers in the back of my car went crazy. Killed the two guys and had to move at least 4 cars to free mine all while hearing my car get banged up by the drivers stuck in traffic. Grrrrr, Ended up paying over 5k in damages

Forgot to post yesterday but I followed a tip somebody posted on this forum about using tear gas to take out enemies in the car meet without damaging the vehicle - I successfully managed to get them all without dying but when I got in the target car it had taken $4,000 in damage from the owner shooting it trying to attack me and the entire rear section had fallen off (it was an Osiris).

It's almost like NPCs have some kind of targeting system that will automatically damage any target car as long as it's remotely feasible that they're aiming at the player.

It happens on PS4 too. I just watched that vid of yours and it was like looking in a mirror, the same sh*t. Over, and over and over again.

welcome to premium races. you should know better being a racer. join a premium race from an invite only session or go in passive mode in a public. go in your own private chat to mute salty players, F them up, profit $$$, when you spawn back into freemode they cant touch you, drive away (finger optional) and switch sessions.

Protip:

If sniping them is not possible because the barges are too far off the coast, them swim until you reach the of the Tug boat, opposite of where the guards are.

Then, swin to the side of the boat, wait until a wave propels you and jump aboard by using one of the tires hanging on the sides.

From there you can pin these assholes out without much trouble.

And then off course, you have to swim back to the cargobob.

I was thinking about it, but to hell with that. I do not want to swim all the way back to the damn shore or even want to go through a lot of travel just to get a car and then have to deal with OP Buzzard pilots.

Damn you went full retard. I usually land on the closest little island (they all have a small piece of land near them) and snipe them. even if you die you'll respawn on the little island.

The problem is with the one by Fort Zancudo, there are no tiny islands near by and it is too far out to snipe.

Fort Zancudo was the one I had. Do you really think I would naturally go with the full retard approach after countless hours of playing? Jeez, people are always fast to judge someone over one showcase of an action.

You're able to still snipe them near the cliff where the road starts on the bridge, at least I was able to.

For the Fort Zancudo approach it's just barely possible to snipe some of the guys. But it's more work than it's worth. A suggestion is cleaning out the barge that does not have the car with the Buzzard and then taking out the rest on foot from there.

Yep, done that before. I just rage quitted on this one, didn't want to go through all the effort for that car after already grinding for more cars.

I've got my yacht out there, but it's still not quite close enough, so I land, take a boat out to the barges, clear them out (explosives for the Dominator barge), and come back for the 'Bob. Even without a yacht, you can use the beach and a Merryweather boat pickup (or natural spawn, if there's one nearby).

p.s. Please don't tag the suggestion of swimming all the way as a "protip", as it just makes you look stupid.

So I decided to be that guy today, you know, the one cruising around in the VIP Ruiner special. It was my first time giving the virtually indestructible car a romp around the map and probably the most fun I've had in the game in a long, long time...but of course I got reported half a dozen times and called a "cheater". I get it, I do, it's too powerful and oh man those rockets are everything you'd want homing rockets to be...but I played by Rockstar's rules and yet here I am, receiving my "bad sport" points.

Some time later, after partaking in some races and getting dropped into a random public lobby, I decide to try and call for my more vulnerable Ruiner 2000 with it's limited ammo. I figured this would be a bit more entertaining and certainly more reasonable as people can destroy the car and I'll be more deliberate with my missiles. Of course now I'm getting "bad sport" points for blowing up personal vehicles (I know, I know) and getting notifications that people are voting me out of the lobby. Keep in mind I haven't fired 8 rockets yet and people see the car and start to vote. After a few insurance bills I stop firing at personal vehicles altogether and just start cruising around and hopping over police cars...

...until the MC in the lobby decided to sell their weed. I HAD to put my toy to use and stop this. The game literally begged me to do it. It said..."yo, go blow that sh*t up". Maybe not in those words but I happened to be bunny hopping police cars in the area so I figured "what the hell?". I travel to location, blow up a truck full of weed, I feel all happy I've put my 4 million dollar car to some use and boom...kicked from the lobby.

f*ck it. You can't use the toys you're provided without being vote kicked...you can't enter a lobby with a handful of people without being vote kicked because they're afraid you'll blow their sh*t up (I guess I did today soooo....guilty!). Now I'm reading things about people getting permabans for stupid sh*t and I have to, even marginally, worry about my behavior in a virtual space set in a world where our character's sole income is all based on crime...the biggest crime may be that we've been playing this sh*t for 3 years and just accept it.

^Well at least those guys had a 100% legitimate reason to kick you, I keep getting kicked after joining a lobby for 10 seconds even after I tell everyone I'm friendly.
