Arthur speaks softly and carries a big stick

You realize you don't have to play him as the peacemaker? You can run around and f*cking kill everyone from Blackwater to St Denis if you fancy

they might not like you very much though

keep them in black on Rockstar's behalf

Exactly 😁 Arthur I think can be a total asshole IF you choose that playatyle, or he can be a redeemable outlaw, or a mix of both. Which leads to lots of replayability and maybe even story branching moments which I'm thankful for plus the honor system and maybe fame adds even more dynamic

I'm now somewhat doubtful this week will bring us any RDR2 news since they'd want to show this GTA Online Nightclub trailer this Thursday, right?

Next week is even more unlikely so that leaves July 23-27th for the next RDR2 news or R* will wait for August to start the final marketing push.

August - gameplay trailer

September - hands-on impressions  |  red dead online reveal

October - launch trailer

WARNING: LONG POST INCOMING.

Due to my extreme amount of hype and anticipation for RDRII I've wrote a short story today to help quell my boredom (if only for a moment.) it's something I do often. I love to write even though I rarely share the things I write with others I enjoy it even though I know I'm not the best, it's still fun as hell to me.

But i figure what the hell, you guys share the same passion for this game as I do, so why not share it with you. Since we're all here dying of boredom waiting for some info anyways.

( just one last quick mention i wrote this story with the new Npc interaction ability in mind, now I'm not claiming that this system  will be as  in depth as it is in the story, but I just tried to basically out line one type of situation we might find  out in the world and how we can interact with in our own way choosing how Arthur will/can react.)

Here it is:

After an evening of quail hunting, Arthur Morgan finds himself riding along a slightly overgrown forest trail, off in the distance he spots the small town  of valentine. He knows from past experience the citizens haven't exactly been keen to welcome known and wanted outlaws, but figures that a quick and direct trip through town will save him much needed time in the way back to his gangs' camp. He chuckles to himself, clicks his tongue and Spurs his horse onward into town.

The sun was setting, casting an amber light through the glazed windows of the valentine saloon. A man who was leaned back in his chair with his hat pulled over his eyes slowly lifts it and peers out of the adjacent window due to the casted shadow of a man on horseback crossing  his boots.

"The f*ck is this?" The man says in a slightly elevated tone of almost disbelief.

He jumps up from his chair grabbing the table to steady himself after realizing he wasn't as sober as he had thought, and heads out the door just as Arthur was crossing in front of him.

From horseback Arthur hears the man shout:
"Don't know what'chu think you're doing back here boy, but your kind ain't welcome in this town! If I was you, I get outta here while I could still ride that mangy horse!"

Arthur cranes his neck to face the man as he passes him, tips his hat and calmly says

"Just passin' through."

The drunk man throws his arms up and out toward Arthur in disapproval before stumbling back into the saloon.

After trotting to the other side of the one street town. Arthur  hitches and dismounts his horse, grabbing a double barrel 12 gauge from the sling on the side of his saddle, checks both barrels and loads them with two shells from his left  jacket pocket before slamming them shut with a sharp "clack!" and beginning  a slow saunter back in the direction of the sun, and the saloon.

Various townsfolk, upon noticing Arthur's stoic demeanor, scramble to hide or to make it back indoors. Leaving the street unusually hollow.

A local sheriffs deputy of skinny and small stature and of a young age finishes a shot of whisky before stepping off of his porch and into the path of Arthur.

Pointing toward Arthur's horse which had held 3 quail tied up and draped over the haunches, he says:

"Now hold up there cowboy, I don't know what you're plannin' to do or where you are plannin' to go with that there shotgun but I can assure you, there ain't no quail that need shootin' in this here town and well, you're just plain scaring folks. Let's try to keep things more civilized eh? We don't take well to violence, and neither do we abide it." he says, placing his hand on his colt.

Arthur flashes him an evil smirk and replies:
"Just passing through friend." As he he pushes his way past the much smaller deputy with his shoulder and climbs the steps onto the saloons' porch.

The sparsely populated saloon grows ever more silent as the floor boards creek under the weight of Arthur's boots as he enters the room.

With his spurs jangling in cadence along with every weighted footstep. He makes his way over to the table where the drunk man from earlier is sitting with his back facing him. stopping short, about 8 feet from where the man is sitting.

Hearing  that the footsteps have come to a halt, the man turns his head to see who is behind him, noticing the shotgun in Arthur's  left hand before slowly standing up to face him.

Now looking each other eye to eye  the drunk slurs:

"What'chu  some special kind of stupid, asshole? I thought I told you, you weren't welcome in my town!" As he spits his tobacco onto floor, wiping his chin with the back of his hand.

"There's no need to worry sir." Arthur says looking toward the floor.

"I'm just passing through..."  he continued as he lifted the shotgun to his waist, pulled back both barrels and before the man could react loosed both of them into his chest and stomach, the inertia from the shot knocking him off of his feet and onto the floor, the back of his head  colliding with the table on the way down as the sharp and raspy sound of all the air leaving his lungs echoed through the room, like a steam whistle through a midnight cow pasture.

"Just like whatever's left of your internal organs." Arthur finishes with a chortle,
the man still looking up at him from the floor choking on what would surely be his final short and shallow breaths, As he turns and leaves the saloon.

Quickly walking down the street, Arthur mounts his horse and canters back toward the the young  deputy who is now in the middle of the avenue  shakily  trying to remove his colt from its holster.

Arthur rides up alongside the struggling and anxious deputy,  removes his hat and says:

"I wouldn't do that if I were you son." Before placing it on the his head with a pat.
"This here town, they don't abide by violent types." He jokes with a snarky tone as he turns and rides out of the view of the now puking deputy, who is quickly confronted by a hurried sheriff.

"What in the name of Sam Hill is goin' on here son? And who in the hell was that man who just stole your hat?"

"No one sir." The deputy says trying to stifle his nervous retching "he's just passing through."

Again, Sorry for the long post. Hope you all enjoyed.

Arthur Morgan would be better if he was just a npc, even the gang cook looks more interesting than him.

We have all of a handful of lines to even define Arthur's personality by at the moment

I admit he isn't a very flashy dresser

@Synthetic_Soul Great effort, amazing read. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

maybe  we should make some kind of story thread, where people can write and share all kinds of RDRII related stories now and after the game releases that'd be really interesting IMO. Unless there already is one that I'm unaware of.

But it's more a parody about the development of RDR2

I think too Arthur is a real badass. Just because he isn't out of his mind in the trailers (like Trevor for example) doesn't mean he is the nice guy. I feel that he can intimidate someone with words and he won't hesitate to use violence if he needs to. Also, I think he sees the situation from a realistic point of view and knows that Dutch is going mad at some point in the story....Anyone with me?

I've seen his name in our ledger... Anyone who f*cks with Arthur becomes a problem of the van der linde gang. Let's try to trail him while he least expects it! Meet me at the camp and we will discuss the next step. Dutch.. John.. Javier, Micah. Bill, Lenny, Sadie, Pearson, Old man, Uncle, Sean, y'all with me?? We ride out tonight. He will be dealt with. And we will get my moneeehhh and dutches bag back to base.

I enjoyed the multiple protagonist system in GTA V but R* made the right choice by going for 1 in RDR2. some parts of the atmosphere in the wild west requires the protagonist to be alone and away from everyone on his own journey to be enjoyable.

Dutch is probably already going downhill at the very start of the game. We have some info to back this up due to reviews and such.

- Early on in the game, a robbery will take place in blackwater, wich will fail horribly. Thus forcing Dutch in his gang into hiding. (Could be a sign that Dutch made a big error in planning or during the heist).

Instead of traverling very far to escape the law, they stay in the general vicinity of blackwater, to the east (where rdr2 will take place).

Dutch wants to quickly get back in action after the failed heist. Not letting his gang recover very long, thus putting stress on them. He wants to quickly rob the east flat and acquire alot of wealth before heading west (rdr1 map). This all points in bad qualities for a leader..greed, ego, apathy, selfishness, carelessness...

In the trailer you see Dutch gang in contact with the pinkertons. Perhaps having to do dirty work for them. (Probably due to Dutch bringing his gang in this situation).

I probably think we will find out Dutch never really cared for his gang. But rather used them as convenient pawns in his quest for wealth and fame.

The multiple protagonists thing read good on paper pre-GTAV-release ... however the world of GTA V is too small for three playable characters and if they do it again with GTA VI ... the transition from one character to the other should be seamless and not take up half a minute or so. Also I'd do two playable characters at most in a future GTA ... one male and the other female.

But I'm glad R* does 1 again for RDR2.

@Synthetic_Soul wow! well done. i really enjoyed your story. More please! My hype awake so much. I like that Arthur is so cold-blooded. I'll play like this at least once.
I also write short stories, but I would have to translate them ^^

I wonder if this kind of conflict will break up the gang? maybe just one reason ...

I don't think the world was small. Many of the areas were underused especially in Blaine County. What ruined the idea was the number of missions. 69 is not enough to fully explore 3 protagonists. They needed 80-100 missions so you could truly hook up with them.if they hadn't spent so many of their resources in online they could pull off at least a 90 mission campaign. More missions for Franklin and Trevor was desperately needed.

I don't understand why people post some incredible Artworks in the discussion thread only for it to get lost quickly. Post it here and also share it in the fan art thread so its easier for everyone to find your work. Do you want your awesome works to go unnoticed after a while?

I'm starting to get hyped again, lack of info or not just imagine the possibilities in this world.

Imagine a lovely ranch in the middle of the great plains, we decide to kidnap a family member then one of the other family members chases you down and you end up having a duel.

I love realism in games. Can't wait!

@tsycho AMAZING homie!! Keep that sh*t up!! And speaking of duels... Do you guys think since dual wielding maybe we could duel more than one person at the same time?? I don't expect it , it's just a cool thought as it's a part of the western fantasy in movies and whatnot. A one on two duel as the lone gunslinger comes out on top. I bet Arthur is a good shot , can handle two cowards at once even with only one gun

I think the Nightclub/Nightlife DLC will drop on the 17th of this month (from what i've been reading on the last few pages) and then we'll get some type of RDR2 update on the following Tuesday. This makes sense both from a marketing and spacing point of view. Don't know, i just have that "feeling" in my gut that says we'll get something RDR2 related on the 23. It makes too much sense.
