Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

Anyone else still planning on doing a replay of the first game before the new one but not sure when to do it? A part of me wants to start as late as October 12th, giving myself two weeks to beat the story and do some of the more essential stranger tasks. Then I also worry about going immediately from RDR to RDRII and how that may affect my perception of the new game.

Any opinions?

Some questions about RDR 2:

Will sprint still be by holding X/A or tapping X/A?

Will the standard game camera be third person and show Arthur's entire body?

Will there be other game camera views such as first person?

Is RDR 2 more ambitious than GTA 5?

Will St. Denis be a massive city that we can fully explore?

Will the gameplay trailer be revealed in July?

Can we go fishing?

Are there more species of animals in RDR 2 than RDR 1?

Can we ride canoes?

Will we be able to shoot automatically by pressing R2 without having to hold L2 like GTA 5?

I'm going to do another play though in August or September. I think that will be a good time to remind myself of the story and then have a month or 2 of just plain hype.

To be completely honest, I’m pretty excited for Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Seeing how bad Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Battlefield 5 look, I honestly think that these two games have full potential of being 2018’s saving grace for gaming! :)

Not sure but just tapping constantly sounds a little annoying, especially when the horse's stamina goes down pretty fast.

I think Rockstar is sticking to third person as the main viewpoint and might add an optional first person mode like they did with GTA.

I hope there are other POV cameras, but I won't be disappointed if there isn't.

RDR has to be more ambitious than GTA since Rockstar has a really good reputation of making quality games they should have a feeling of what is the next big thing that they have to push and make better. They should always look for ways to improve their games.

I have no idea but it better have more interiors. That's what Rockstar kind of ruined with GTA V. The world felt empty without many of them.

We're getting closer to the release date so they better show us something. A trailer, screenshots, whatever but it has to be something to keep us hyped. I don't wanna let go of my hype.

I think fishing was confirmed before. Might have to look into that one.

I hope they diversify the wildlife. Like how they added more cars in newer GTA games they should do the same with different species of animals and walks of life.

Wasn't there a RDR trailer with someone on a canoe?? Forgot which one it was but we'll probably be able to get on one based on that alone.

Not sure but I think I heard somewhere that the shooting has been refined somehow. And of course dueling is back.

For me it's the opposite, I'm going to not play red dead redemption 1 at least till after 2. Not cause I don't want to play it but I'm purposely letting myself miss the hell outta playing the game so RDR2 is just that much sweeter!! Andddd it makes the wait way harder while I play RDR 1 right now

I'm at it right now. With no rushes. Tasting it slowly. I'll try to finish it at least 1 month before RDR2 comes out, to let the final hype grow a bit, tho.

Since RDR2 is a prequel playing 2 first and then 1 later would make it a pretty beautiful ending.

That's a good point zello! I guess it was subconsciously in my head, another reason for it that I couldn't quite grasp out of feeling but that's it

Until release I'm watching all different types of western I haven't seen. No so popular spaghetti, neo, modern day etc, I don't discriminate. I look for artistic takes on westerns. I know Rdr2 is going to be excellent.

Fun fact, did you know that most of clint eastwood's westerns were actually filmed in Europe? Andalusia, Spain to be precise. Europe's only true semi-desert.

Can Dreams for PS4 possibly top RDR 2 and be game of the year? It's not getting as much attention as RDR 2 but I think it's the biggest sleeper of this year and can really surprise people. Would you rather play a game like Dreams with endless creativity or a game like RDR 2 that's already made for you or both?

I'm worrying that Assassin's Creed Odyssey will be better than RDR 2. Is anyone getting Odyssey? Just how good will it actually be? Dreams for PS4 is another great game coming out in the Fall.

Well done, you do know that you are going to have to play Brazil now in the quarterfinals, if you get past Japan, good luck with that ;)

Just ran across this video on YouTube:

Conagher - Sam Elliot

Never heard of the movie before but that little snippet has piqued my interest. I'll have to look it up.

Agreed! We're in a worse situation than England now. Unless Mexico beats Brazil..Japan shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I don’t own my copy of RDR anymore, and no PS3 either for that matter, so I can’t play RDR even though I sort of really want to! But here’s the thing; I played the sh*t out of that game when it released, exploring everything, doing all challenges, went for a 2nd playthrough, did the same with the DLC... so in a way I remember it very vividly tbh. I started looking at a playthrough on YouTube when we got the information flood from R* (because hyped af), and it was nice but in a way, it was enough. I usually don’t like looking at other people playing games (unless I’m hanging out with friends while playing ofc, but looking on playthroughs isn’t really my thing), but since I know that game so well it was kind of chill to just see it. I know what it plays like.

So, just to add my pov to your discussion; I’m sort of glad I don’t own it anymore. RDR2 will be very different I think, even though it’ll feel familiar... but I will want to be as starved as possible when it releases. 8 years is a long ass wait, so this really feels like one of the major gaming events of this decade imo. My thirst for the western world of Red Dead is just unbelievable atm, I’m sure y’all feel the same.

It’s like being hungry and waiting for your favorite food. Wouldn’t wanna ruin that hunger by nibbling on a ”lesser” similar alternative. Sort of. I think I’ll watch some more of RDR1 though, but maybe mostly read up on the story and the characters on the Wiki and what not, just to freshen up my memory as I feel that’ll improve the experience.. Man I’m looking forward to this game!

Agreed, Japan won't even touch you, it is one of the easiest draws in the last 16 IMO, but you never know... hehe

Do you guys think the HUD will be similar to RDR or are you expecting the whole layout and pause menu to be different? I'm expecting it to be different but a lot more revamped. I always liked the red and black style of the loading screens though. I hope it comes back in some type of fashion. Maybe RDR 2 won't have as many loading screens as GTA V but I'm actually looking forward to them.

not sure but RDR was perfect. Every damn detail. That red and black aesthetic, the chamber of bullets as the loading time, the scenery tease main menu... The gun sounds when clicking things... God everything about it just amazing rockstar really changed how I view games. I'm just as excited for a loading screen layout as I am for the whole game lol. I LOVE Red Dead!!❤ Even revolver had a great loading screen!!

Man.. since you're open to different westerns like I am, checkout Longmire... L.A Noire meets some red dead action basically. I don't even watch TV very often but I f*cking love that show. I'm gonna checkout deadwood finally and hell on wheels after I finish Longmire. I'm in the last season

Fun fact; Arthur Morgan and Walt Longmire look very much alike.? It's so cool because the scenery when he is in his blue shirt it looks like RDR2 with the new green grass fields and whatnot. That' d be cool to me if Arthur's design was a bit inspired by Longmire. Great place to draw inspiration from if you ask me, it also seems RDR2 may have more in depth investigations this time, if gtao treasure hunt depth goes into red dead redemption 2!
