Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

What do you guys prefer, RDR or GTA? I personally like riding my horse in the wilderness over driving a car in a very busy city with a lot of buildings. The openness of the wild west gives me a good sense of adventure along with the wildlife and nature in general. Do you think RDR 2 will be game of the year?

I prefer the setting of GTA, I was never really too into Westerns.

 

For everything else gameplay-wise I prefer Red Dead though, and feel it's a superior to GTAV for what it is

 

GTAV is my dream come true virtual open world. I like the modern world - the buildings, the roads, the cars, the technology. When I saw the first GTAV trailer so many years ago in 2011, my mind was blown. I knew I was home. The design is a masterpiece that may never be surpassed.

 

But similarly, I like the great atmospheric world of RDR. I trust Rockstar to make RDR2 a seamless open world work of art, that won't feel like clicking through different sequential modes in a game.

 

I also like certain western movies, but no matter what Rockstar does with the story, I don't think it can be as engaging, or as seamlessly acted, as a western movie. And cutscenes don't help - they're mostly just a waste of resources. I just can't see how interactive environments, with so many limitations on the playable character, can feel as smooth and as emotionally tight, as a good movie. So I'm not expecting that much, there. I just hope the gameplay and the replayability is excellent.

I already posted this in the Sadie thread, but again, I believe this may have some relevance to the story as a whole, so here you go.

 

Anyone else find this interesting? While scouring trailer 3 for more undiscovered clues/hints, I noticed that Sadie wears a very distinctive belt buckle. At first I thought it maybe resembled a buckle that a lawman might wear(not too well-versed in belt history lol).

 

 

 

 

After some light research however, I found what looks like a fairly close match - Texas star Civil War belt plates.

 

 

 

I wonder what this could mean for her backstory, maybe it's from a relative that served in the War?

 

Is that a big BEARD on Arthur right there?

Plot twist: We find out there's 1200 people working on RDR2 marketing. And look how that's going.

 

For comparison, the GTAV marketing budget was BIGGER than the development budget. I'm never, ever going to forget that.

 

I mean, as much as us fans hate their marketing, GTAV is the highest grossing entertainment property of all time so the marketing team must be doing something right.

It's both. I play them both for very different reasons, and I like them both equally.

In fairness to BF V, it's around the same time BF 1 came out 2 years ago so it's their standard date, CoD is the week before BF V too. They'll probably be alright, they're the big new shooters, have BR (well only CoD confirmed atm) and will be one of the 2-3 games most gamers pick up in around the Fall and holidays period, but the weeks after RDR2 are currently very quiet. Kinda think Ubisoft might go for a mid-late November release with one of their titles but they'll be playing a risky game. RDR2's the type of game that could still be out selling brand new games even in it's third and fourth week of release, especially if they delay the online by 2 weeks again which is likely.

As far as I'm concerned, the more 12 year old's that ask their mothers for CoD and BFV instead of RDR2, the better. Hopefully the rest of them get tired of not having jets and super-cars and return to GTA Online too.

There were a number of occult symbols in the first Red Dead Redemption. Though not as many as in GTAV, it was still quite a lot.

 

I couldn't find good videos about them on YouTube, but here are at least 3 videos pointing them out. While I appreciate that the guy recognized them, his videos have a overall low quality as well as his knowledge about the symbols is limited:

I very much doubt it, apart from maybe a last minute date change of a week or two. It's not gonna get knocked back to next spring or something though. This is coming out in the fall, pretty much guaranteed. The promotion is too much in full swing now. (Even if there are still significant problems, they'd probably prefer to ship it on time and patch it as soon as possible after launch - but hopefully it will be in better shape than that. I don't remember a major Rockstar title shipping with huge bugs in it, apart from GTA Online which was a godawul mess.)

Distraction is good, at least for me. I find it exhausting being hyped and restlessly waiting for the/a release. Good games are around now (FC5, GoW, Detroid and several good PS+ titles from the last months) and are coming (The Crew 2, Jurassic World, Spider-Man, Tomb Raider). So time will past faster while being distracted.
