Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

Physics-wise I assume they're going to go for something more realistic than Redemption. I'm thinking a blend of Redemption and GTA V would be best. I loved people grabbing wounds in Redemption but hated how weightless and ragdoll looking people could get. Also the stupid way NPC's would stumble around like they're drunk as hell when they get shot. It was like your bullets were loaded with some kind of super alcohol or something. And everyone sold headshots like they were Ric Flair, staying on their feet for way too long before flopping down.

Nah they just reacted better to being shot. I think V's shootouts were the most boring out of any Rockstar game.

The bodies had the weight of a car, that's not realistic at all.

It's so much more fun in RDR and actually feels like you shot someone

The grabbing wounds bit maybe, but stumbling about like one of the Three Stooges with a head injury is not a great reaction to being shot in the torso.

To me GTA V's characters had the weight of a 100+ pound person rather than a 10 pound ragdoll. Redemption was like shooting a lifesize Woody from Toy Story come to life.

There was more clarity in GTA V's shootouts too. In Redemption you had to double tap everyone before you moved onto the next guy because it was impossible to tell if you actually killed the guy and he was just over acting the hell out of it or if he was just stumbling around for a bit before returning fire.

At the end of the day how people react to getting shot is less important to me than how the playable character works. I just hope they improve on character movement/control over the last one. No more stumbling and turning into a ragdoll because hills are a little too steep.

I definitely agree with Dex here. The RDR2 physics were really fun for 2010. It probably felt new at the time, but it hasn't aged well. The NPCs feel weightless and some of the shot reactions are way over-exaggerated. Not to say that GTAV was "realistic" in any way. But I do think that RDR2 will expand on gun shot physics because R* fan base is requesting it heavily.

So the Sony's E3 schedule was leaked today !!!!dc13hurwaaak2as_trdk.jpg

it looks like we're getting another trailer !

Shawn Layden has already confirmed that the show will be based on showcasing Ghosts of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Spider-Man and TLOU2 as the main games of their conference. The fact that Spider-Man is listed here as just a trailer, directly after Death Stranding, indicates that this list is fake. A trailer isn't exactly a showcase. They will definitely want to spread those 4 games out and give them their own space to shine. So showing a simple trailer for Spider-Man directly after long-awaited game-play from Death Stranding doesn't exactly showcase Spider-Man at all.

So are we going to get another one ?

Well...thats literally what it says so...yeah?

Sounds like that's what they said. I'm guessing with the June update maybe?

June isn't later this year tho. Especially in R* time

Fair point, but June is when the next update is rumoured for and with how long the drip feeds last it'll likely be the last one before RDR2 comes out. Also, it likely won't actually activate when the new update does. Probably a couple weeks later.

Hoping it's a Lever Action Rifle of some kind, that'd be neat to use.

Except for it did activate the same day that Doomsday released.

Orange is the colour of the Dutch royal family- the House of Orange-Nassau, founded by William I of Orange. It's also why their national team kit is orange.

He doesn't mention anything about his lineage in Red Dead Redemption likely because he didn't need to. He was a bit busy being hunted down by John and lawmen to discuss his heritage in depth. I'm sure we'll find out more about it in this RDR2.

Dutch's family hail from the Netherlands hence his last name but I think Dutch may just be a nickname likewise Irish.

Irish could not have been more Irish if he had been sitting on a pot of gold under a rainbow.

I honestly don't care too much about the physics. They already said we can shoot hats off people's heads, or get our own hat shot off. I assume shooting guns out of people's hands is gonna return too. I never thought RDR physics we're that much different than V's, maybe I just dont pay attention to that stuff.

I'm sure it will be fine.

Imma buy me a huge-ass 10-gallon hat, so when fools thinkin' they're gettin' a headshot on me, they'll jus' be gettin' a hatshot.

They don't stumble around after being shot in the torso, I don't know where you're getting this from but maybe you should play it again some time?

The bodies actually have weight in RDR, just a realistic amount and not that of a bus.

I'd rather see people reacting to being shot than just standing there not doing anything and then dropping with their arms by their side like they've been propped up for you. That's boring and doesn't make any sense.

You don't have to double tap, just shoot them in an area that would kill them😂

They're nowhere near as annoying as V, where NPC's spend more time laying on the floor shooting at you more than on their feet!

If you can shoot someone in the foot and they're instantly dead then there's something not quite right at all.

Anyway this game ain't GTA, thank f*ck

I really hope that guns like the 1887 and colt navy are in the game, those were one of the staple guns of the old west especially with ranch hands against rustlers. Which speaking of this, what mini games do you think would be an integral part of the game to make it blow the first one out of the water?

Yeah, same. The repeater rifles were great in RDR.

The first 5 minutes of this video disproves a few of ytour points. NPCs in GTAV lay on the ground and react to being shot in the foot by holding their leg. In RDR they get up and limp away.

They don't stumble around after being shot in the torso? Check out the video linked above at 4:28.

Again, RDR was great for 2010, and still looks really good, but I think the hype around physics is mostly from nostalgia.

For a start they don't even hold the area in which they were shot😂

Yeah they limp away, and what?

You saying you'd lay on the floor and wait to get shot again? Smart!

At 4:28 that looked like a glitch and they almost never happen. Trust me I play this game a lot and I never see anything like that.

So no, it's not nostalgia for me.

I play it to this day and it looks and feels way better than V, a game that was released 3 years later with a much bigger budget and should have been raising the bar with stuff like this, but failed to do so

So the guy from IGN seen a 45 minute demo that includes a bank robbery, which would include a lot of shooting, guys gettin' popped left & right, but can't recall if the bullet hit reaction was like RDR or not. 🙄 smh

Probably because RDR came out 8 years ago? Maybe he hasnt played it recently. If you continue to read the thread he mentions a few specific details about NPC gunshot reactions. He mentions their feet being caught in the saddle and dragged by the horse, and hats being shot off etc.

Gunshot physics arent usually what reporters are looking for because the general public doesnt give a f*ck. Just whiny gamers who complain about everything. Because gunshot physics wont sell this to the general public, and half of you complaining will probably buy it regardless lol.

Thats why IGN and other outlets covered details such as the mission design, characters, etc. Because thats what will sell this game to the general public.

Also when you hear anyone speak about RDR and why it was great, they mention the world design, story, characters, gameplay, music etc. Ive yet to hear any of the video game podcasts or anything just say that the physics is what made it great.

V's physics - not the non-reactions to wounds, but the way bullets don't push people around and knock them over - is actually much more realistic than RDR. Bullets have next to no mass. They punch holes in you, they don't pick you up and throw you around. That notion of bullets having significant impact force is a purely Hollywood invention.

The thing is though, that GTA has always been pretty Hollywood. And RDR was even more so. So while I think V had the more realistic shooting physics of the two games, RDR's physics were more appropriate to the material, and more fun to watch.

Tbh I really dont expect anything less then what RDR was.

It'll just be touched up alot.

Why did Dee get banned, again? Lol

Apparently the staff found out he was the one behind Raiden, the "insider" from 2 years ago spreading b.s. on reddit and GAF abou5 RDR2 being announced at E3. I don't recall Raiden posting here but I guess (It's spelled Raavi, go edit your post) or whoever wasn't happy?

So he got permabanned and i guess dropped the news he was Pinkerton Spy too. Lmao
