Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

Red Dead Online will be dope just like the Single player. Chill tf out man

I can't stand online multiplayer! Rockstar's over-focus on this Online multiplayer garbage is the reason I left them for Bethesda and Fallout and Skyrim because Bethesda is one of the few remaining game companies that cares about Single Player!

Online always leeches and steals resources and development time and content that could be put into the main Single Player story mode!!

Online players you have you're Call of Duty and Battlefield, leave our historic Single Player franchises ALONE!!!!

Hey guess what R* don't give af how YOU feel. Just because you dislike online multiplayer means...what? Who cares? Tons of people including myself are more excited for online than the story and i say that shamelessly. Not because the Single player dlc was cancelled, not because how GTAV single player was handled because I ENJOY playing online with my friends, i like customizing characters, being competitive etc. Who are you to say what belongs and what doesn't. That why there are 2 modes juat for people like you. YOU enjoy single player, don't try to bash others for what they enjoy playing.

Exactly. Online is really fun if you have good friends to play with. I treat SP and Online as separate games and love them both. Wasn't there that interview with R* reassuring fans they they aren't giving up on SP for the players that hate online? I'm assuming that the team wotrking on online content is very small compared to the one working on RDR2 since all their studios work on it which could be the reason for no large SP DLC. And why is it so neccessary for a game to have a SP DLC these days? Shouldn't you just enjoy the base game without waiting for extra content?

There needs to be a portion of the game thats as exciting and action packed as the Mexico part of RDR1 was. That was by far the best part of Red Dead Redemption.

You really think so? The general outlook from people was that the Mexico part was the worst from the 3 chapters in the game. I always thought the New Elizabeth chapter blew everything else out of the water with the Edgar Ross and Harold MacDougal missions.

Mexico by far had the best missions. Shootouts on horse back while chasing trains, robbing trains, setting ambushes, having these massively epic shootouts while raiding hideouts and palaces, eventually catching Escuela and over throwing the Mexican government >>>>>>>>>>

Anyone who thinks Mexico was the worst part of the game is probably a Donald Trump supporter.

They have made over $500 million with GTA Online.

So they are going try to replicate that as hard as they possibly can....

Meaning start lowering your expectations for RDR2 now

That just makes em higher for me. Can't wait for the online and it's good that they have so much money to make the game as good as they can.

That means that Single Player content will suffer as more and more resources are pumped into Online and then you can forget about any SP story DLC.

Well they made 1Billion dollars in the first 3 days alone. That was by just selling a complete single player game cause GTAO was not even a thing.

I get it yall are pissed with the focus on GTAO, all old fans are but in the end Online is what has kept the game alive and millions of players still playing it.

But dont just jump to conclusions and assume that R* have forgotten SP! If that was the case we wouldnt have gotten 3 story trailers, screens and a preview.

They know SP is for the win in the short run and switch to Online shortly to keep things alive!

P.S. I am a SP fan. Loved GTAO too but now its just too much.

Where is the link where the Rockstargames employer speaks on this topic, that'll end this bullsh*t right here.

There is nothing that can change their minds. Online is bad. Sharkcards are bad. Rockstar games are bad. This is their opinion and we can't change it. At least we had something to talk about.

People are shooting down AOD88 but lets be quite frank, he's making very valid points. Fair enough saying the SP mode will be a 30 min tutorial is clearly an exaggeration but we all saw with our own eyes how Online completely took priority over single player in GTA V, to the point where a SP DLC ws cancelled.

Not to mention that in the first press release Rockstar strangely mentioned Online as if it was gonna be a huge part of the game. Peoples concerns about Online having an effect on single player are completely justified.

How can yall just assume GTA V dlc was cancelled cause of Online? Maybe R* was not confident with the title. Maybe it wasnt upto their standards!

Hell this is the reason actually. Why would a company not want to release a DLC story cause of Online? They would have made more money by selling both, wouldnt they?

I'm 99% sure if I even go online it'll be in a private lobby, the same way I played GTAO. After a month of that I'll never play online again, same as GTAO

IDGAF how it goes tbh. No matter what they do Muhf*ckas are going to whine and complain [regardless]. It.Don't.Matter As long as they do what they feel is best I can appreciate and understand why certain moves may need to be taken. I'm a fan of great stories and great multiplayer period. With R* titles Those 2 things have become the leading factor. What was the first thing we heard about before a picture or anything? Rdr2 "will feature a new online experience etc" That should tell you off the dribble they are working on them both simultaneously.

Right, so bear with me... At the moment I'm having a hell of a time, desperate to play RDR1 but having sold my PS3 and PS Now not running well on my internet connection I started thinking...

So that leaked map links to blackwater by an estuary or some such, and there's definitely some narrative crossover in terms of John, Jack and Arthur and Dutch's story et al. And everyone's like where's the PS4 version of RDR1... Well, would it not be good, if upon completion of RDR2 you unlocked RDR1 for next gen consoles. And could continue the story in its canonical glory?

I know speculation only, however the more I think about it the more I want it and the More I think it's a goer and brilliant idea.

You actually aren't the first to speculate it. It's... unlikely, but who knows?

Though, I'm not sure they could fit all that audio and dialogue onto one disc lol.

I think the little boy in me would go Full on nuts if upon completion there was a segue and you may download rdr enhanced edition or something... Still like getting picked out of the crowd to play a solo at a rock concert!! Lol.

Theres quite a lot of talk of how the series needs to be seen as a whole and somehow having rdr2 set before rdr1 lends itself to this idea of requiring the entire canon to understand the story fully. I always tell people not to hate to hard on godfather3 as it's part of a full narrative arc and is important to understand the overall themes of capitalism and retribution. Even if it is terrible, you cant and shouldn't put pandora back in the box.

Loved the Mexico part in Single Player. However, I'm gonna add to this on a different note. In Multiplayer, all the better Gang Hideouts were in West Elizabeth and New Austin. Tesoro Azul was probably my favorite area though in Mexico aside from El Presidio.

I posted this in the Online thread discussion but does anybody think that competitive game modes with be weapon locked again? For example, if you did a Gang Shootout (Red Dead Redemption's name of the traditional TDM) will it be like a Bolt Action Rifle and a certain Pistol/Revolver only (with other weapons placed around the area in crates again) or will we be able to bring ALL of our weapons into the fight this time with NO crates anymore?

GTA V is there big money and their blockbuster while the RDR is there prestige title. Say what you want about R but they do actually care about what the audience thinks. If they didn't then they wouldn't have made V the way it is to appease the people who trashed IV. They want that respect back that they lost because of online and making RDR2 a great single player title is their way to do that. It is their version of a critically acclaimed indie title.

I wanna know why all the haters and skeptics are wasting time complaining about the game if they know they're still gonna buy it. Shut the f*ck up and play something else if you're so skeptical about the game. Ain't nobody forcing you to buy the game.

No ones hating or complaining you dumb f*ck boy. People are just voicing their concerns over how big a part Online will play in the game considering what happened with that cluster f*ck GTA V.

That's exactly why I said skeptical which is the same as being concerned but you're too busy with your finger up your ass to realize that. Just cause YOU didn't like GTA Online and YOU thought it sucked doesn't mean it actually sucks. You got people that enjoyed the experience so fall back and shut up with the bullsh*t.

But it does "suck" its not even a fun game every new update is getting more more and more expensive

...and apologies if I'm boring anyone, but wouldn't it be a massive service to the rdr community and even though it's an update to an existing game, a way of silencing those who say r* no longer care about single player. However lastly, would anyone pay for it? I think I'd pay £50 quid for it without a thought, however my mate reckons its only worth twenty. I think they would make more off it now with the r* community what it is than they did originally, what with how they push rdr2 on GTA:O, and there's definitely an untapped resource there as all the kids who didn't play rdr. Anyway, I'll shut up about it now, daydream over.

I love the idea but unfortunately I believe ad many others have stated, the code in RDR is just way to f*cked to do anything with in terms of remaster or anything.

But yes I agree in a perfect world, getting a remastered version of RDR after RDR2 would be f*cking amazing. I'd probably even pay for it. How much? Idk. I'd have to see it first. Being that I still own my original special edition copy and can play it whenever I feel the need.

On the other hand I wouldn't want it to take away from RDR2. It has a special feel just the way it is.

Even if that feeling is just nostalgia.

Hosea Mathews is going to be Dutch's henchman in the game's story.

supportcharacters.png

An henchman is commonly known as a loyal employee, supporter, or aide to some powerful figure engaged in nefarious or criminal enterprises. A henchman is typically relatively unimportant in the organization, a minion of low status, who lacks a moral compass of his own and whose value lies primarily in their unquestioning loyalty to their leader. Picture what Nick Nack was to Scaramanga in 007 movie "The Man with the Golden Gun" or what Randall Weems was to Miss Finster on the "Recess" cartoon show.

The above image is taken from Trailer 3, from a scene where Hosea claims that Dutch is "his best friend" and goes way back with him. This goes to show Hosea's deep admiration to Dutch and his feelings of closeness to him to go as far as to claim he's "his best friend" when in reality these feelings may not be reciprocated by Dutch who simply view him as his loyal minion servant.

supportcharacters.png

In the image above, we see Dutch, Hosea and Arthur. This image is taken from Trailer 3 during a scene where Dutch asks a group of people "to stay strong and stay with him", presumably during a gang internal altercation in which part of the gang what's to depart from the original group. Why would Hosea be in the middle of 2 of the gang most important figures, Dutch and Arthur, helping solving an internal gang dispute, if he wasn't a central part of the gang himself, namely, Dutch's minion?

supportcharacters.png

In the image above, taken from trailer 2, we see Hosea standing right in the middle of Arthur and Bill WIlliamson, 2 of the storie's most important characters. What is even MORE INTERESTING is that this scene plays intermittently with another scene where Dutch asks Arthur "Do you have my back?" (*then this scene plays in between*) to which Arthur replies "Always, Dutch."

Why?

In my semi-educated guess, is that not only Hosea is going to be an henchman to Dutch he's going to try to turn Dutch against Arthur during the course of the story because he's very resentful and jealous of Arthur for him being the gang's 2nd in command. Hosea is extremely loyal to Dutch and profoundly hostile to anyone who wants to leave the gang and he will try to convince Dutch that Arthur is the one looking to convince others leave the gang and join him in a new gang led by him. That's why the above scene plays in the final of Trailer 2, right at the same time as Dutch asks Arhtur if he has his back.

So i figured it out about the Max Payne 3 weapon system

rdr2-screenshot-040-1525356011538.jpg

you can see John holding the longun/rifle in his offset hand like in MP 3

but in this scene you see it on his back, that gun has a strap

red-dead-redemption-2-v1-549984.jpg

Another thing i noticed is that sometimes when on the horse Arthur has the gun on his back or on the saddle of his horse in many of the screenshots

If Arthur does not have a strap on his long gun he holds it Max Payne 3 style, if he has a strap he puts it on his back

Great speculation! I do believe Micah is going to be a bad guy to some extent though. Charles seems like a loyal guy. I'm interested in Sadie's realitionship with other gang members. We know she doesn't find them entirely trustworthy from trailer 2.

I also get the vibes that Micah is going to be an antagonist to some extent, though it's a bit early to tell. I don't know about Charles. As for Saddie, i think she's going to be constantly sexually harassed by Bill Williamson. Bill Williamson as a coward sexual predator seems to be very congruent with his character.

Nice find!. I guess one of the customised weapon attachments would be a 'strap', giving you the ability to put it onto your back instead of your horse/other hand.

Pretty good catch. The only argument against it is these scenes could be from a cutscene. But nice speculation.
